I can't tell you all just how pleased I was with Dr. Lesem on our visit today. There is definitely an unpleasant stigma which exists in the psychiatry division of medicine, which is that a Psychiatrist simply wants to talk a very few minutes with you, take a few notes and send you on your way with a prescription. My visit with Dr. Lessen was completely opposite of that stigma, as he went far and above my expectations. He's not only intelligent; he actually listens and engages by asking questions to learn about his patient. He also believes in true conversation banter, not in a judgmental manner, but in a way that he wants you to understand how he views general life situations. It's a true gift in the fast-paced "in-and-out" world which psychiatry practices tend to lean. In order to begin to mend whatever the ailment is, a physician must dig in to learn what he needs to do in order to help, and Dr. Lesem is not afraid to explain, in practical terms, what his approaches and goes for his patients are. If you are looking for an uptight "Academic" type, then he is probably not suited for you...but in my humble opinion, that is not the type of physician you should want when it comes to matters of the mind, as you're not seeming him to deal with a sprained ankle or the common cold. Most importantly to note: we know this world is growing more and more judgmental, particularly about depression and other psychiatric issues one might be facing. You need not fear an open/honest dialogue with Dr. Lesem because he doesn't allow reality to interfere with his therapeutic approach. In order for there to be true healing, one must not fear full disclosure, otherwise you're wasting your time. I went into my visit (it was my first session with him) feeling down and not hopeful, but I left with a positive outlook with a renewed sense of ambition about truly tackling my issues. A big thumbs up for Dr. Lesem, his professional courtesy, and giving me there was true understanding and empathy sitting across from me. Thank you Dr. Lesem!

So the visit with Dr. White.... I went in for a basic psychiatric screening as I had some issues I wanted to look into, and I really want to stress to people out there the difference between Psychiatrist and Psychologist. I've read reviews about her where people say she didn't talk to them or give them therapy or treat them...but that's what a psychologist or therapist is for, not a Psychiatrist. She is diagnosing any mental problems you may be having, not giving you therapy. Anyhow, my visit was pleasant I suppose. Dr. White seems a very knowledgeable doctor, and she prescribed me medication not in the way I had hoped for and explained how one of the medications would worsen a condition I had, so she wanted to calm that condition down before introducing the other medication. That shows she's thinking ahead and about you. Although some people have mentioned a cold or disinterested attitude about her, I felt none of this. There was complaints that she's mostly on her phone or looking at her computer, but that's because she's reading all of the questionnaires you did in the lobby :). Which take forever by the way! Come 30 minutes early if you don't want your appointment cut short because you had to spend 15 minutes of your appointment filling out those questions!! I filled out my paperwork in about 20 minutes..so I was a bit behind in my appointment. The one really positive thing? I ADORE her lead office receptionist! She's so sweet and friendly! She's also very knowledgeable about her job, and seems really committed to getting her patients in and out and shows a real compassion. She's just so sweet! Dr. White was nice, but I really think her lead receptionist made me feel most at ease and welcome, and is the reason I won't be so grumpy to go back two more times for testing. The only horrible parts? The office seems just money hungry. Everyone who comes in must take a urine test, which I guess I understand, but if your insurance doesn't cover her office, you're looking at spending money for something you already knew, and felt unnecessary and oddly non-negotiable. I just didn't like how I was forced to take a test and be charged for it, when I know I don't take drugs or alcohol, and why does she even need it when I'm being examined for a completely unrelated illness o.o Like not even nearly related.
