Helen is a talented therapist. I went into my first session that fearing my matters might be too ambiguous and ill-defined to address, in spite of how evident the effect on my life and happiness; I walked away feeling confident that I was closer to finding the road to better emotional well-being. I imagine many people who could benefit from therapy, do not pursue it because they don't know "where to start." Helen is very adept at helping you draw out deeply, which is effective for those of us who have more fundamental issues to address; she is very good at helping you make your way backward to explore the past. She also treats people who have concrete social problems (violence, substance abuse, etc.). Helen is perceptive, patient, supportive, engaging, she is not dismissive, she is accessible, she has tactics and --importantly-- she obviously loves what she does. She is gifted. More practically speaking, Helen's office is a tranquil space, conducive to a feeling of safety and is adaptable to each person's comfort preference (i.e. You can choose where to sit, whether to lay down, comfort items) while in session. She has two rooms from which you may choose to do therapy. Her practice has no signs, for privacy purposes. The only complaint I have noticed (from others, not myself) and I foresee people having in the future is the wait time. I won't lie, it can happen sometimes that you get there and wait longer that you thought you would, quantifiably. The truth is, the nature of therapy is fluid and some days the person before you needs a bit more time; sometimes it will be you that needs more time while others wait. It's all part of how available Helen is to her patients during the sessions. Helen is cooperative about scheduling with you and time management is an issue which you can address with her; if specificity of time is a pressing concern for you, I recommend you let her know and she will try to accommodate you into a less populated date. In my opinion, it's worth the potential wait.
