If your practice doesn’t show up, or shows up but gives them a reason to hesitate, they move on. No missed call. No voicemail. No second chance.<\/span><\/p>\n

We call this the visibility gap. Think of it as an abandoned cart, but for healthcare, with higher stakes. The good news is that most visibility gaps are simple to fix once you know where to look. Here are six signs your practice might be harder to find than it should be \u2014 and what to do about each one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sign 1: You have few (or no) recent reviews<\/b><\/h3>\n

Patients treat reviews like word-of-mouth from strangers. Before booking with someone new, most people want some kind of sign that others have had a good experience. Think about how you feel when you’re looking for a restaurant and the most recent review is from 2021. Current validation makes a big difference.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reviews and ratings give prospective patients enough social proof to feel comfortable taking the next step. \u201cConnection with my doctor\u201d is the number one factor patients say matters when choosing a provider \u2014 even above proximity and ratings.\u00b9 Reviews are often the first place that connection gets established before a patient ever walks through your door.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fix: <\/b>Make asking for a review part of your post-visit workflow. Send a brief thank-you note and ask for feedback. Even a modest, steady stream of new reviews will make a meaningful difference to a patient who’s never heard of your practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sign 2: You’re not showing up where patients actually search<\/b><\/h3>\n

Most practices assume Google is how patients find them. And that’s not wrong, but it’s not the whole picture. People search for care through their insurance company’s directory, through healthcare-specific platforms like Zocdoc, through their employer’s health portal, and increasingly through AI tools. If you’re only optimized for one channel, you’re invisible to everyone who starts their search somewhere else. And the patients most likely to be searching on specialty channels are high-intent \u2014 they’ve already decided they want care. They just need to find you.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fix:<\/b> Find out where your current patients say they found you. Then check whether your practice actually shows up in those places \u2014 and whether the information there is accurate and complete. If you’re missing from channels where your patients are looking, that’s a gap worth closing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sign 3: Patients can’t book online<\/b><\/h3>\n

When a patient lands on your profile and the only option is a phone number, many of them leave. Not because they don’t want to see you, but because calling during business hours isn’t always possible, and in 2026, friction loses patients.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fix: <\/b>Offer online booking. It’s the single highest-impact change you can make for both visibility and conversion. And if you already do, great! Make sure it’s easy to find on your website, on your profiles, and anywhere else a patient might land.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sign 4: Your availability isn’t visible in real time<\/b><\/h3>\n

There’s a meaningful difference between a profile that says “accepting new patients” and one that shows actual open appointment slots this week. The first tells a patient you exist. The second tells them they can see you Thursday at 2pm and lets them book it right now.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fix:<\/b> Connect your calendar to your booking profiles so availability updates automatically. This helps patients find you while also reducing the manual work your front desk handles every day. That’s a win-win.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sign 5: Your website isn’t built for the device patients are using<\/b><\/h3>\n

Most patients who find you online are doing it from their phone. If your website loads slowly, is hard to navigate on a small screen, or buries your contact information three taps deep, you’ve already lost them, even if your profile was what brought them there in the first place.<\/span><\/p>\n

And it’s not just a user experience problem. Search engines like Google rank mobile-friendly sites higher, which means a clunky mobile experience doesn’t just frustrate potential patients, it makes your practice harder to find in the first place. Before it’s a conversion problem, it’s a visibility problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fix:<\/b> Pull up your practice site on your phone right now. Can you find a way to book or call within 10 seconds? Does the page load quickly? Is the text readable without pinching and zooming?
