Getting to know Loida Almaguel
I have an LCSW license since 2011 and completed a Master in Social Work Degree at California State University, Sacramento.
I am an experienced clinician working across the lifespan and is proficient in evidence based models for children and adults. My specialty areas include: depression, anxiety, stress management, family issues, and life management with an adherence to the value and practice of radical acceptance of whatever is brought to therapy. My past work settings run the gamut from school-based, to community-based, to institutional shelter clinical support. I’m also experienced in clinical supervision and training. I am bilingual/bicultural (English/Spanish). When not working, I enjoy reading and walking on the beach, learning parasailing, photographing sunrises and sunsets.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Trust is the cornerstone that allows positive growth in therapy, which for me includes empathy, validation, and unconditional positive regard of the client. Reinforcing that we are all doing the best we can, and that coming to therapy is not a failure, but rather it is a growth opportunity.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Clients are the owners of their lives, and I respectfully honor their right to self-determination. A basic guiding principle in my therapeutic work is that clients are able to succeed when they choose their goals and their psychological needs are met. As such, it is my job to encourage competence and mastery of their own paths. That is, what works is what works for the client!
