About Dr. Peter Chansky
Dr. Peter Chansky is a board-certified dermatologist and fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. He specializes in medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology with an emphasis on compassionate, patient-centered care and dermatology grounded in science. While Dr. Chansky sees all general dermatology patients, he has a particular interest in the treatment of acne and acne scarring, rosacea, cosmetic injectables, laser resurfacing, and anti-aging skincare regimens. In the world of cosmetics, he believes in graceful aging and personalized, evidence-based skincare routines that keep you looking your best at every age. He is also a certified Spanish language interpreter and takes special pride in caring for patients in the LGBTQ community.
Originally from the east coast, Dr. Chansky grew up outside Philadelphia. He completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He then earned his MD from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where he was inducted by his peers into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his dedication to patient care. He also completed a year-long clinical dermatology research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, earning him numerous grants and awards for his work.
After medical school, Dr. Chansky completed his internship in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, where he fell in love with the Bay Area. He completed his residency in dermatology at the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at New York University, where he served as the chief of cosmetics and aesthetics in his final year. Dr. Chansky has lectured at several national dermatology meetings, authored textbook chapters on topics in medical and cosmetic dermatology, and published numerous research manuscripts in preeminent, peer-reviewed dermatology journals.
Dr. Chansky lives in San Francisco and loves to bike, hike, and run all over the bay.

I had been struggling with acne for a long time, and Dr. Chansky prescribed spironolactone, which worked incredibly well for me. The improvement in my skin made a huge difference in my confidence.

Dr. Chansky is clearly knowledgeable and the office is well run and the office staff was kind and easy to work with. However, the speed of the visit was jarring. He was answering my questions about one issue while simultaneously speed-checking my skin and the multitasking felt frantic rather than efficient. He was in and out so fast that I felt dismissed and too overwhelmed to ask anything else.

I came in for a common issue, yet Dr Chansky was rather condescending. He offered treatment options with minimum explanation, I had to ask multiple questions to get the pros and cons of each treatment. My concerns on the side effect weren't addressed with a slightly condescending expression and tone. The office staff on the other hand were great!

Wonderful Dr. Really takes time to look after you and understand whats going on. If I could say one thing, I felt very cared for. More than the basics, it was like he really cared for my well being. Great staff.

I waited 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time and the appointment lasted 10 minutes (probably faster if I hadn’t asked follow up questions). I came in about concerning moles, hyperpigmentation, and dry skin and Dr. Chansky shared everything looked normal. While I appreciated the quick reassurance, I didn’t feel the feedback was actionable. For example, with the concerning nevus, he said it looked completely normal and didn’t offer any guidance like checking if it gets raised, removing it from the sun, or monitoring if it increases in size. I even had to ask for a pamphlet on concerning moles to get more information.
Similarly for all other concerns, he just shared things looked normal without offering guidance on how I could reduce my concerns. I didn’t feel like he listened to my concerns or offered any preventative tips.

BE AWARE, you could get charged several hundreds for a very short consultation visit, like how I was. I came looking for advice on in-grown facial hair treatment, the doctor told me to purchase razorless shaving cream off amazon, then I left. This entire visit, starting from the 1st hello I made to the doctor, lasted under 5 minutes. The doctor didn't perform any involved medical examination or procedure on me during that time. The advice given was ok, I guess, but I still have ingrown hair bumps on face after using the cream, so take this story as you will.

The appointment was about 10 minutes long. It was not clear if he washed his hands prior to touching my face. He prescribed medication right away one being spiro. After I did my own research into side effects, I realized I didn’t want to go this route. It didn’t align with my wellness goals. But the visit was so rushed I feel I didn’t even had a chance to think. I was able to sneak in some questions but they also felt super rushed.

I recommend Dr Chansky 1000%. Not only is he a thorough, knowledgeable doctor, he is kind and a really great human being. Another note is that on many visits he has had a “shadow” resident doc. It doesn’t go unnoticed to me that not only is he a good teacher, he is also so respectful and kind to the resident. Yep, he truly is a stellar human being and a real gem.
