About Dr. Francis Hsiao
Dr. Francis Hsiao is a board-certified dermatologist with advanced fellowship training in Mohs micrographic, reconstructive, cosmetic and laser surgery. He has been invited to lecture in multiple national and international meetings. He makes patient care his top priority. His ultimate goal is for all his patients to love how their skin looks and feels. Subscribing to the philosophy that healthy skin stems from a regular lifestyle, healthy diets, and gentle skin care, Dr. Hsiao believes that each person needs a personalized plan to optimally nurture their skin. In addition, he is also an expert in botox, fillers, laser technology, and cosmetic surgical procedures. He employs these techniques to help his patients achieving their goals.
Dr. Hsiao grew up in the Bay area. He pursued his bachelor and graduate degrees at Ivy-league institutions, Cornell University and Harvard University, where he was supported by the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute and National Science Foundation. He was fortunate to be mentored by several giants in academics, including two Nobel Prize laureates. Dr. Hsiao was among a handful of medical students to be sponsored by the highly competitive NIH Medical Scientist Training Program to pursue a combined MD-PhD degree. At Tufts University, Dr. Hsiao fell in love with dermatology as a medical student, and has been an advocate for it since. He was trained as a dermatologist at University of California’s Davis Medical Center, and was subsequently selected to complete a highly-rigorous Mohs micrographic, cosmetic, and laser surgical fellowship at Boston University. Prior to joining California Skin Institute, Dr. Hsiao was on faculty in Rhode Island, and served as an Associate Program Director for a Procedural Dermatology and Mohs Surgery fellowship. As a widely-published author, doctor, and caregiver, Dr. Hsiao places a premium on top-quality patient care.

He is also a gifted surgeon! Completed a MOHS procedure on my mother’s face and the scar is barely visible.

They saw me right away and the doctor was very thorough. He "froze" several spots on my face, hands and arms and took a biposy on my shin. Not painless, but he did whatever he could to minimize it. The doctor had a cheery vibe and was quite pleasant.

Medical assistants seemed to lack experience and was very confused about my condition. They were also very unprofessional in the sense that they were uncomfortable with dealing with a sensitive and private area. I had to apply the numbing cream and wipe off MYSELF!!!

Not only did they not have my patient records the doctor asked me what medication an MD in his practice had prescribed me and for what dosage. He didn’t look at the problem area in question and then left the room promptly after being 30 minutes late. I would not return.

Dr Rhea Phillips left to TX so I had to find a new dermatologist. Dr. Hsiao was very direct, and helpful was in and out in 10 min. Asked about pharmacy rx delivery service and they had already parterned with one. Easy no stress trip to the dermatologist.

Went to see doc for standard, basic issues. Doc recommended a blood test. I NEVER got the test results even though I called to check. It has been 6+ months and I already moved to another city, having wasted time and money on some test.

Wanted to get a skin screening, but Dr. Francis didn't do a thorough job. He didn't check head or armpits and therefore missed several moles. He left the treatment room so quickly that I couldn't even double-check with him or get any questions clarified. Wouldn't recommend without getting secondary opinions.
