He's really wonderful. Smart, caring, straight forward and willing to work with you on any concerns. I'm recommending him to all my friends that are nervous about seeing a psychiatrist for the first time. I've been to both the Brooklyn and the Queens office and both are nice. However, you will wait at least an hour. Bring a book.

Dr. Elshafei is an amazing doctor. He was sweet, patient, and a great listener. His staff was amazing and very friendly, the office is setup as if it was a spa and not a doctor's office which was very calming and comfortable. The wait time was very fast, I saw the doctor in less than ten minutes. And I would've waited hours to see Dr. Elshafei, he is an amazing doctor and he is worth the wait. I'm looking forward to my next appointment with him.

Dr Ash is really a very understanding man. There is such a demand to see him which explains the ridiculous wait time. He does see all of his patients and will leave out of the office at midnight if he had to.

Dr. El-Shafei was wonderful. Yes it was a long wait, but I expected that because of the reviews, and what good doctor doesnt have a wait time. He was very caring, he listened, & he was very knowledgable. I would highly recommend Dr. El-Shafei. It is very hard to find doctors like him, when you sit with him you know that he is not a doctor because of the money, he is a doctor that actually cares, and you can tell he enjoys helping people.

I waited at least two hours. the doctor walked in very late. many patients were in the waiting room already waiting since 9 am and he walked in at 11 30. once i got in there he was in such a rush. i do not recommend.

Super nice guy, very helpful, a good listener and non-judgmental. However, on more than one occasion I have been on time for my appointment and had to wait for 2+ hours to see him. And his Brooklyn office is open until 11 or 12, so that means getting out at 11:30 or so at night. Sorry, but not worth it. Sitting in that waiting room with a bunch of tired, floppy people is almost as depressing as the actual depression I go there to get medication for.

This is the only psychiatrist office I've ever been to that you actually feel crazier than you did walking into the office. Without fail you will wait at least an hour, usually more for your 10 minutes with the doctor. Systematic failure. Do not go here.

I really like Dr. Ashraf and think he's a great doctor. He's very understanding and takes his time in talking to you. His office is always busy and one would assume that with such a large patient base, he would rush each patient. However, he never does that. He takes his time and tries to understand your needs. On a different note, wait time is horrible. Sometimes I have to wait 3 hours to see him. His staff is not nice, except for one person. They dnt believe in smiling or interacting with patients much, which is unbecoming since some patients wait so long. The least they can try to do is comfort the patient...a little.

I adore Dr. El-Shafei, he's really worked with me to find the right regimen. My only complaint is the long wait time. It can be REALLY LONG. He's obviously very popular and often overbooked.

Dr. Ash is kind and very knowledgeable. When I first started seeing him several months ago the wait time was horrible--up to 2 hours--and many of his young staff were unprofessional. Since then the office has worked hard to fix things: He makes sure patients do not wait more than 30 minutes max and the staff is generally professional and collegial. He listens well, is extremely empathetic, and goes out of his way to accommodate patients. I would recommend him.

The first appointment I made was cancelled late the night before by email. I rescheduled, and then on the day of the appt, I waited for more than two hours, and then saw Dr. El-Shafei for less than five minutes (literally)- and I was a first-time patient for depression!

As always, a wonderful mental health professional. He truly cares about his patients and is wonderfully knowledgeable. The wait time is ATROCIOUS - I have never waited less than 2 hours, and I've seen him three times - but I have tried other psychiatrists and I just came back to Dr. El-Shafei. I bring a book and expect to read for 2 hours. That's how good he is. If you're willing to do the same to get a great doctor, then book with confidence.

I have seen Dr. El-Shafei more than once, and he is a nice guy, but don't go to him if you're looking for more than a prescription. I have never gotten to actually talk to him for more than maybe 10 minutes because the office is always so busy and over booked. The wait is horrendous. I have never been seen less than 2 hours after my scheduled appointment time. The other people in the waiting room refuse to use the silent feature on their phones and listen to music very loudly without headphones. On top of that, the music playing in the office is all bad jazz renditions of popular songs. The receptionists make you feel as if youre bothering them, I understand, because theyre probably very over worked and have to deal with people who have been waiting for hours. The over all experience isn't worth it. Find another doctor.

Well, the other reviews don't lie. I waited two hours past my appointment time, which is no picnic. He was pretty good. Served his purpose. I got a Rx that I do feel is appropriate given our conversation. I have a follow-up appt in two weeks... and the wait continues.

Dr Ashraf was great, the wait time was a bit long but not so bad and he made up for it BUT THE SUPPORT STAFF IS DANGEROUSLY TERRIBLE. My insurance required authorization and I called the office, they said they would fix it and nothing. Then I'm off my meds and I call back asking if they can call my pharmacy to give me meds for a few days until my next appointment. They put me on hold for 28 mins and hung up on me!!! Then I call back and no one answers. Dr. Ash is great, but being reliable for your medication is a necessity. I'm strongly reconsidering going back after I speak to him in this appointment.

I can't say because I never got in to see him. I arrived at the office at 8:00pm for my 8:15 appointment. He arrived at 8:15. I was in the waiting room of his "office" packed full of other disgruntled patients and an unattended screaming child for nearly an hour until I was forced to leave (at 9:10) without having gotten to see the doctor. He may be a great doctor, but I am in no position to say so.

i read the reviews and was prepared for a wait but two hours is not reasonable to me. that being said, he was a great doctor who actually listened and spent time with me even though they were clearly backed up. the office is very nice and the staff is kind so i'm going back to give it another try. i would have given a highly recommended rating if it wasn't for the outrageous wait time.

Dr. Ashraf El-Shafei is very kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. However, the wait time was close to an hour and a half for this visit and the waiting room feels cold, dark, and unfriendly. His reception staff is young and they come across as immature and unprofessional. When I inquired about my wait time after a half hour, the young woman at reception barely glanced at me and said she "didn't know" and that she "thought I was next." I waited another 45 minutes after that. The only reason I'd go back is that the doctor is good, and he has assured me they are working to improve the situation.

My visit with Dr. El-Shafei was wonderful. I never been to an office where the doctor and his staff are great. The staff is a beautiful bunch they get along well and help one and other. The doctor actually listens and has given me execellent advice. The best part one of the staff memeber called me a day before to remind of my appointment. There was no wait time. Trust me I was called on time which i love because my plans was not ruin for later on that day. The office is designed to make the patient feel relax and at ease so when you are called in you are calm when speaking to the doctor. My visit was a very good experience. The office is wonderful. The staff is great. Especially Imene, She has everything under control, and there is no wait. The doctor is calm caring and he actually listens to me. Not many doctors listen but he did, and didnt rush me he took his time and made sure that I was okay and understood everything before i left the room. My daughter went to visit Dr. ElShafei for her first visit on 12/11/10. The office atmosphere was very calming and pleasant. The office staff was very helpful and pleasant. My daughter who has had trouble connecting with other therapists found Dr. ElShafei helpful and caring. He is very attentive and has a good rapport with patients.He was a good listener and gave positive feedback. He demonstrates a genuine concern for his work and patients.
