Very professional. He showed empathy for me. Always very attentive to me.
Estoy muy satisfecha, valio la pena la espera, el Dr. Elshafei me parecio muy profesional al igual que su staff.
He was able to see me the same day and was able to address my problem directly. He has a long wait time, but worth it! He really thinks outside the box and is client-centered
The guys great and he knows how to get the job again only thing that im against is that the waiting time is pretty tedious
Waitting time was over 2 hours
Great, works with you on finding a treatment. Waited 1.5 hours though
Great doctor once you make it in!
The wait time is unacceptable HOWEVER, he is an amazing doctor who cares and knows exactly how to take care of a client from prescriptions to kindness, empathy and sympathy. They admin staff has got to get the appointments under control. 30-60 minutes, no biggie. 2.5 hours? That's a flight to Miami!
There are very few doctors that are as good as him. Therefore, you will have a long wait time. Make sure to bring in a book, or a laptop for time to pass by. He listens to every patients worries and provides treatments accordingly. It's worth it
Amazing and brilliant psychiatrist. He was able to understand my case so well so fast. Go seek the best mental health care here instead of settling for any physician .
Empowering, educational, put my mind at ease, new rx coctail is so far so good.
Honestly, i think generally he is a nice and very opened and narrow minded person down to earth; he will listen to what you have to say and give you some advice, very skilled, linguistic...etc. The only thing you will not like is that you have to wait alot
Extremely nice man.
I hate how you have to wait a long time for him, but i like the doctor. I don't like the office either. It very hard to get in touch with them over the phone in order to make appointments or check on prescriptions or other routine matters.
Dr Ash himself is fine but his office is a mess. I've never had to wait for more than an hour to see someone and the last three visits I've had to wait over 2 hours. It's super unorganized and the staff is unfriendly. Only go here if you don't value your time. I'm super upset.
There's always a wait to see Dr. Ash, but the best things in life are worth waiting for. I love this doctor and the amazing people who work at his office.
Had a 8PM appointment, in which I checked in at 7:30PM and asked to be called when my turn came. Ended up dropping by at 11 PM and being seen at 11:30PM. At that point, the doctor seemed a bit tired and we had a relatively quick appointment. He was friendly though. The waiting room is full of frustrated people waiting for their appointments.
excellent, always is like a friend for me, also the lady that attended the patient is very nice!
Great. But the lines were absurd. Lots of patients!
I was prepared for the wait time, but it really wasn't too bad. My last appointment I was seen 30 minutes early. I like the doctor, it was my first time seeing a Psychiatrist and it was a pleasant experience
Love Dr.Ashraf he's the best!
I honestly have no idea what to think about the doctor. By the time I finally got to see him, I was so exhausted, all I wanted was to get my medication prescription and leave. He asked a few more-general questions, gave me my prescription, and that's it. I had an evening appointment (after working all day, mind you), but wasn't seen until 3 hours after my appointment!! Appointment times don't mean anything to them: it is still first-come, first-served. Some of the other patients waiting that I spoke with had appointments after mine and were seen before me because they signed in earlier. Also, the receptionists kept saying 'x' number of people were before me, but that 'x' number didn't include the people that they let in between appointments who "just" wanted to ask a "quick" question. And when confronted about this inconsistency, they moved me up the queue to try to appease me. Unless you have no other options, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time here, because they clearly don't value your time.
My appointment was at 6pm even tough i was there on time, had to wait 2 hours and 30 minutes to be seen by the doctor. The waiting room is crowded and unorganized. The office should not overbook appointments and respect the time of patients that booked appointments in advance.
Bring a book
Great Doctor. Helpful and listens no rushing you out the door. Just be prepared for a one to two hour wait time. Hence he doesn't rush people.
The front desk people here are the worst I've ever seen. Not only are they rude but they also don't respect your time. I was seen more than two hours after my scheduled appointment! Stay away.
Dr. Ash is an amazing psychiatrist. Not only does he listen to your problems but also gives personal advice on how to manage the problem and if medication is needed he prescribes it and explains how it works. Yes the wait time is pretty long but it is completely worth it.
I'm literally still in the office waiting to be seen. Came at 7:00pm. It's 9:05pm. If you have any sort of schedule in your life be prepared for it to be unabashedly disrespected.
The wait is ridiculous, however, he is a great doctor with great bedside manner. I've learned to check in and then go to dinner or the gym and come back. He doesn't spend a lot of time with you but i never feel rushed. His office is bad with responding. I asked for paperwork to be filled out and a month later, i quit but only b/c i was able to do without it.
Very quick appointment but willing to prescribe the medications I need without a lot of hassle. It was a good thing I knew what I needed beforehand.
I have been a patient of Dr. Ashraf for almost 3 years now and I am very happy, satisfied and always walk out of there knowing I got somewhere with my appointment. Usually psychiatrists just write your script and you leave , HE actually listens to me vent and talks to me about my issues even though he has other patients waiting. The only problem is which is normal is the waiting time. If you book an appointment , you know your going to be waiting about 1 or 2 past your time but personally he is worth it.
He's the best doctor!!
ive never felt so comfortable at a doctors before.so professional and welcoming staff...very grateful to find him so close to home. highly recommended!
Great doctor. Very patient and insightful.
Waste of time u can. Clearly see he only give certain ppl certain things. Never saw a doctors office have pharmacy deliver the patient meds to them at office. After about a 2 hour wait I was told by doctor he can't do anything for me
Doctor Ashraf was amazing. I highly recommend him.
This guy is great. Really makes you feel like he's listening to your concerns and takes the time to explain why he's prescribing what he's prescribing. Very rarely do I feel so at ease around a doctor, and I never feel like he's rushing me out. These are really important things for any MD, but especially a psychiatrist—to make you feel listened to and understood. HOWEVER, there will always be a long wait at this office. I think Dr. El Shafei does his best to help as many people as he can, which means his office is open late and is always packed. If you come prepared with a book and some headphones, I really do think the quality of care is worth it.
Make sure to take a book, or a laptop to watch a movie while waiting. Or go run some errands the staff is nice enough to give you a call when one is ahead of you. Because he's one of the best, the wait time is anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Mentally be prepared for the wait, but overall he's an amazing doctor and takes his time in evaluating patients and listens to all their concerns. Very worth it!
Great doctor. Terrible wait times.
As everyone has mentioned he's a very good psychiatrist, he listens to what concerns you and evaluates you based on your symptoms. When he prescribes medication, he explains the side effects and the outcome. That explains the wait time because he's very dedicated towards every patient. Highly recommend him. For the wait time issue, I suggest you bring a book, or laptop to watch a movie, or go out and run some errands, they'll give you a call when there's one patient ahead of you. He's the best psychiatrist, that's why he has so many patients. Highly recommend him.
Worst practice to take your child/teen if they are in need of real therapy. Dr. Elshafei recommended my teenager to begin therapy with Laura. After an incident at school, we followed Laura's instructions to apply for temporary home schooling. It was a nightmare to get the practice to return the forms, but even worse for the home schooling psychiatrist to speak with Dr. Elshafei. They did not want to talk with Laura as she does not even have a license! Laura dismissed us and said Dr. Elshafei will never talk with them, they would have to talk to her and since they will not- good luck! It was disappointing as my son enjoyed her sessions and he had trusted her. She wasted two months of a school year for my son doing nothing at home while we waited for the application to be processed. He is now back at school and we are back at square one. It is vey irresponsible of Dr. Elshafei to allow this to happen at his practice. I highly recommend going elsewhere!
The office is always packed with people who are double booked for appointments. The wait is well over an hour past your scheduled appointment time.
Wait time is insane if you actually sit there and wait. Sign-in and go for a walk.. They'll call you when there's one pt left...
He's great person
You will wait when you come to the doctor. BUT, it's worth it if you're looking for a competent psychiatrist who takes insurance and makes new patients wait 6 months for their first appointment. Bring a book or make some phone calls, as long as you know what's coming. Expect to wait anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. Dr. El-Shafei was a good listener and was very patient with me as I explained my symptoms. He didn't mind justifying why he was prescribing what he prescribed, although some other doctors do take issue with a contrarian patient. I left his office feeling like I'd been heard out and that the Dr. had designed an effective plan of action moving forward.
I'm seeing Dr. Elshafei after trying out many psychiatrists on my health plan. I've only had one doctor in the past that I felt truly was knowledgeable, considerate, and willing to work with me - until I met Dr. Elshafei. I have been seeing Dr. Elshafei for almost a year now and can comfortably recommend his office to anyone. I feel like my concerns are heard and that the doctor knows how to create viable, individualized plans for his patients. The only recommendation I would make to improve the experience is being more mindful about appointments. Sitting for 2-3 hours after your appointment time is very difficult.
He's the best n worth the wait
The wait time was pretty long- I waited about 40 minutes to be seen. However, Dr. El-Shafei seemed very knowledgable and was pretty attentive. He didn't dismiss any of my questions or concerns. The staff seemed nice and professional.
Excellent doctor, very friendly and good listener
The trick is to check in and leave. I would never imagine sitting there for 3 hours as I have in the past. Be forewarned!
Couldn't have possibly been a more positive experience. Dr. Elshafei is an exemplary physician with profound psychiatric knowledge. His bedside manner conveyed an extraordinary sense of kindness and empathy. A true credit to the medical profession!
He listens, he helped me with my work stuff!! His a good doc!
Check in was a breeze. Compassionate care.
Doctor was good! Long wait, worth the visit.
Great doctor but the wait is terrible
Very professional, friendly, prescription was filled immediately. Very happy I made the appointment
I do NOT recommend this doctor! His wait time is +2 hours, his staff is rude, inattentive, and will let other people skip you. Dr. Elshafei does listen but it feels like he is trying to rush you in and out of his office in 20-25 minutes meanwhile you've waited hours to see him. Calls/voice messages left on the offices phone will never be heard nor responded so save your breath. Overall do not waste your time with this business. They truly do not care for your wellbeing. Find someone else.
Love everyone here the girls are so sweet and dr ash is great!!!
Love him!!!! He is a very knowledgable caring and overall great doctor. The best I have ever seen.
What a terrible doctor. He assured me that I could renew my psychiatric medication prescription via email while I was on a month long trip and never responded to my emails or my multiple voicemails. Because of this i have been dangerously off of my medication for over a week and still cannot reach the doctor. Very disappointing. In person he is fine but only asks how business is going, never about my mental state. Wait times are over two hours, even if you have an appointment. Glorified drug dealer.
This was my first visit with Dr Ashraf. My main advice is: BRING A BOOK and your phone charger. You will not be seen on time and your wait will not be less than 90 min. The waiting room however is furnished with comfy leather sofas. Dr Ashraf is very personable. He listened to all I had to say regarding needing my medication again and had no disagreements. He is quiet spoken and approachable.
The doctor is very good, but he takes on way more patients then he can handle. He took me in 2 hours and 34 minutes after the time my appointment was secheduled for.
Dr. Elshafei is great except for the wait time - but it's not so bad if you go in expecting those wait times. Be SURE to bring a book or something to do. Waits can get very long - 1-2 hours.
Great doctor in all most every single way. Be prepared to wait for at least two hours. I signed in, told the front desk I was going to be back in an hour, and went and had dinner.
I went in thinking the worst for myself but his bedside manner was really comforting. Looking forward to recovery.
He's very attentive, listens to what you have to say, and actually cares but the wait time is still ridiculous. My appointment was scheduled for 8pm and saw him around 9:30. I've seen him one other time before this one; my wait time was about 3 hours and my appointment that time was at 6 so I definitely recommend booking an appointment with him at the latest time possible for minimal wait time.
Dr. Elshafei is great. He's quite a popular doctor because he's one of the very few doctors in the area that take insurance. Good luck finding other doctors. Make sure to come in prepared to wait - bring a book, something to do, etc. It's not so bad considering this is an in network doctor for many.
Doctor was very polite, genuinely care about what I had to say, was very attentive but the wait time was ridiculous! My appointment was at 6:30 and I saw him at 9:40! He had patients waiting in the sitting area since 5 and they finally saw him at 8!
He is a good listener, and comes across as very caring and invested in your growth. I've been seeing him since February. Bring a book because the wait is long. Next time I go I might check in go have a coffee and come back for my turn.
Most likely won't be returning.
The staff is nice but pretty much useless no one answers the phone and waiting time for appointment is always 3 hours minimum.
He's a good therapist but the wait time is too long. It can be anywhere from 1-2 hours. I don't have that kind of time.
Excellent dr however wait is extremely long
Doctor is fine. He listens however, The wait time is insane. 2 hours plus
Several people in the waiting room stated that they had appointmentsome at the same time I did. I got a sketchy vibe.
I love the location but it takes too long to be seen for 10 minutes but he is great
I have been a patient of "Dr" Elshafei for about 3 months and at first I highly recommended him, however, his employees are the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET IN MY LIFE. I am taking a controlled medication for ADD and after meeting with him, he called in my prescription to a neighborhood pharmacy as the system was down and couldn't send it electronically. I called the pharmacy on saturday and they never received the script, I called the Doctor's office and after a few tries finally got someone who told me that she will send it to my pharmacy. I called the pharmacy on Monday, they tell me they still did not received the script, after exactly 23 phone calls, I finally speak with a secretary and she tells me she will send the prescription over to the pharmacy. I call Tuesday night, the pharmacy still doesn't have it, I got into contact with a secretary and she tells me she has sent it to a different pharmacy and that she will resend it to my pharmacy, mind you this is a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE and these illiterate secretaries are the ones forwarding the script instead of the doctor. My pharmacy then refused to fill my script as the script was filled by the other pharmacy, to make a long story short, I have been 5 days without my medication due to the doctor's and staffs' negligence. I will never see this man again as this is a very serious issue. I usually end up waiting 2 hours, paying copays every month so he can see me for 5 mins and"refill" my prescription. I rather never take this medication again then have to get it through this place.
He is very good person and good experience
SUCH A LONG WAIT TIME (almost 2 hours) and I was told this is just o par with course for this doctor. My prescription was also not available the next day and required extensive follow up.
Dr. Ash is fantastic, very professional and kind. The reason I decided to stop going there was that, even though I always showed up on time or before my scheduled appointment, I was consistently made to wait 2+ hrs every single time I had an appointment there. I just couldn't justify needing to take an entire day for one appointment that usually only lasted about 15-20 mins.
I literally wait more than 4 hours for my appointment even if I get there early the staff is great though
I've been seeing Dr. Ashraf for several months. He's very knowledgeable and has great bedside manner, however, his administrative staff gets FOUR THUMBS down. I've become accustomed to the long wait-time, Dr. Ashraf is a busy guy. I can't become accustomed to the horrible customer service though. EVERY SINGLE TIME I come into this office, his administrative staff fails to send my medication in a timely matter. It shouldn't take 2-3 days of begging his staff to send my prescription to the pharmacy.
The doctor is nice, but the appointment was very short. Consistently had to wait over two hours for the appointment only to be seen for less than 5 minutes. I've been there as late as 10pm at night. I've never seen anything like this.
They over book appointment slots then fail to let you know you have to wait over two hours to be seen. Refuse to go here anymore
On avg the wait time is 4-5 hours. The doctor is good. The only thing I dislike is seeing other patient going in earlier then others. Espically if they are Egyptian.
Great doctor....wait time horrible... Be prepared to wait 1+ hrs
Very Good Doc, the visit was ok, the only bad part was wait time. the office was in the basement, not very good cell service. And a none working wifi. i will continue working with this doc and recommend him.
Very clam and understanding Psy, highly recommended, just the wait time is more than two hours.
waited 3 and a half hours. last appointment I waited 4 hours.
When I get to see Dr. Elshafei, it's great. Most of the time, however, I have to wait for more than an hour past my appointment time. This last time, I waited for three hours for the office to call in my prescription refill, after booking an appointment to do so (which was the previous office policy) and then found out after I arrived (45 minutes past my appointment time) that they now call all prescriptions in instead. I then waited another two hours for them to finally actually call it in and got my RX just as the pharmacy was closing. This was a totally unnecessary waste of time.
Loved him. The wait time is ridiculous. I've been there twice + both times waited for over two hours.
I highly recommend Dr. Ashraf, for his great knowledge and bedside manner
Dr. Ashraf is very knowledgeable and has great bedside manner. However, I no longer have the patience for his staff and I feel that their lack of empathy puts my health in danger. I've moved on to another doctor because of this. There have been a couple occasions that I have suffered from SSRI withdrawal because his staff simply forgot to send my prescription to the pharmacy for several days. I literally have to call over and over and beg for my medication. Also, appointments don't exist at this place. If you make an appointment please expect to wait at least a hour past your scheduled time. Initially, I made appointments here on zocdoc but learned that this was a waste of time and energy. If you have a job that requires frequent travel or work late evenings this is not the doctor for you. I work in television production so my schedule is not the typical 9-5. He's ONLY available after 6pm and you're required to visit his office every month to get your prescriptions filled. To be clear, for prescription refills you have to visit the office monthly, pay your copay and sit in the waiting room for 1-3 hours until someone tells you that they faxed your prescription to the pharmacy (I've learned that there is only a 50% chance that your prescription has actually been sent).
My visit at Asharf Elshafei's office was rather unpleasant. When I got there the waiting room was crowded and messy, with tissues and paper all over the floor. My appointment was for 5pm but I wasn't seen by the doctor until around 6:15pm. When I was with the Doctor he asked me a few questions, jotted my answers down, and perscribed me with something, sending me on my way. My visit with him was less than five minutes, which I don't feel was an adequate amount of time to evaluate someone on their first visit. I won't be seeing this doctor again.
Dr. Elshafei is a very caring dr. Who listens intently to his patients.
Dr. Elshafei was very professional and knowledgeable about what his patients go through. I feel very comfortable with him because he cares about my well being.
Dr. Elshafei will not return calls to the pharmacist. I had to wait over a week before he or his office called back the pharmacist, meanwhile, I was languishing without anti-depressant medicine. He's lucky I didn't harm myself, although I truly don't believe he would care. Stay away from this doctor.
When I arrived they affirmed my appointment. Later the office staff, Eman said that I do not have an appointment......Eman later said that I have an appointment, but 4:30 PM at ZocDoc translates to 7:00 PM at Dr. Ashraf's!! After more than five hours of wait the Doctor saw me!!!! I could not understand why 4:30 at ZocDoc means 7 at Dr. Ash.
The Dr was pleasant and seemed knowledgeable. The wait time was inconsiderately long considering the nature of the appointment. As such the appointment was not as effective as it could have been because my child was irritable and emotionally shut down due to the wait time. Had the time been more reasonable I believe I would have been a lot more satisfied.
The wait is ridiculous, and some of the people there are deplorable, that in itself will cause a major breakdown. But once u finally see the doctor it all doesn't seem to matter anymore, his office is a space u feel complete tranquility. You can feel the aura in the room.
It was awesome. Very relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful office. Friendly staff. The doctor was very accurate in his assessment and prescribed just the right medication for me m I'm looking forward to future visits.
To keep it brief, Dr Ash is knowledgeable and very good at answering any questions you have concerning your treatment. At no point did I ever feel that he wasn't qualified and prepared with treatment and alternative treatment ideas. Good plan A, plan B, plan C kind of guy. Unfortunately he has a TON of patients so you can expect the same issues you'd find with any person who's business concerned a ton of appointments, packed waiting room, a million different prescriptions to remember, etc.. All this would be forgivable if I didn't have to routinely (with NO exceptions) have to wait HOURS past my actual appointment time to see him for 5 minutes. I tolerated it for some time, but I can't anymore. The front desk rarely picks up the phone when you call. I have been trying to refill my prescription for days. Last night I ran out and have been calling them ALL DAY. I literally will not have medication tonight. Wow... I also come every so often for counseling with one of Dr. Ash's professionals (Laura). Laura is awesome and intelligent. She's helped me through various rough times and I'm thankful. Unfortunately she, too, has way too many patients. The other day I waited 2 hours to see her. Finally I couldn't take it and left. After waiting for Ash, appointment after appointment, and now Laura, I'm done. I'd stuck it out because I didn't want to leave and have to deal with a new doctor critiquing my treatment and possibly hitting the reset button. I also didn't want to leave after having so many sessions with Laura, but this is too much. As a doctor I would give him 3.5/5. As a practice? I give this business a 1/5. It's infuriating, mainly because it's never even been apologized for. When I first started coming here I would see people basically shouting at the front desk. I thought, "Wow, people are so rude." Over a year later I get it. $$$$$ is what seems to be important here. I mean, they stack patients on top of each other appointment after appointment. Sometimes I didn't even stay for my full session time. Was rushed out (of counselling). Maybe it was a mistake, but them having way too many patients is completely believable at this point. Fortunately this business serves a niche community that very few practices would be equipped to handle just from a language perspective (many patients are immigrant families and speak languages other than English). Which is awesome. We need more medical treatment that takes the communities of their patients seriously. Arabic speaking families, this may be a GREAT place for you if we're not talking about the logistical issues I've already mentioned. Try it out. Otherwise, it pains me to say :( STAY AWAY. -Frustrated
The wait was long but this is because Dr, Ashraf is fantastic and genuinely cares about his patients ! After years of trying to find a Psychiatrist who was worth my trust and time I am glad to say I will continue visiting Dr Ashraf and his office. The therapist Laura is a sweetheart and all the staff in the office is very friendly and helpful as well. Dr. Ashraf had a genuine interest in my concerns and in me in general. Excellent doctor. will recommend to everyone.
1 Hour wait at 8:30PM. Not too bad.
I really love Dr. Elshafei, he is extremely kind and professional and he is very sensitive to his patients. He never judges or makes you feel rushed and I really enjoy my visits with him. I didn't want the amount of stars to be altered so I said he saw me right away, but just to clarify, the wait can be a bit long but he really is worth it, just bring a magazine or a book to keep you busy. The office is lovely and the front desk staff has always been kind and considerate. I highly recommend this doctor.
The wait time is excruciatingly long. I had a 7pm appointment but wasn't seen until 8:30pm. Doesn't seem like there is a whole lot of order at the front desk. The waiting room also doesn't have enough chairs for people to sit so there were a lot of people standing or waiting outside of the office in the hallway. Other than that, the doctor himself is very nice and knowledgeable. I just wish the copay wasn't so expensive.
Dr. Elshafei is definitely worth the waiting time. He is genuinely caring and listens to his patients instead of just prescribing the latest drugs on the market. Anytime I've needed doses adjusted he'd listen to my explanation and if he agreed, he changed it. Best psychiatrist I've ever met.
Try for the early half of the day to avoid longer wait times.
Such a nice man. The wait time has improved a lot since I first started seeing him. Seems like he's really helping the community too.
Overall it was a great first experience. As others have stated the wait can be pretty substantial so bring something for entertainment. Otherwise Dr. Elshafei made me feel comfortable and felt I was in a trusted environment, for me that is vital to continue treatment. Can't wait to see what's in store for treatment.
The wait time was alittle long, but the office is very beautiful, peaceful atmosphere; friendly and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and professional. The doctor is amazing; very knowledgeble and compassionate. Overall great experience!
First time patient. My appt was at 2:30pm on a Saturday and I was not seen until 5ish pm and that is only because I complained every 30-45 minutes after the first hr of waiting. Not cool. While I understand the receptionists are not to blame, since they cannot control every nuance of scheduling. I do feel they could use more of a customer service oriented approach, given how long patients are waiting. Example: I asked for toilet paper (about 1.5 hrs in of wait time) because it was out of stock and the receptionists each looked at each other to fulfill the request. I said "Nevermind. Can you please just give me a paper towel (it was sitting on the counter) for now?" They obliged. I assumed they forgot about the TP that was out of stock because 35 min later another woman came to the front desk asking for TP. Not cool. Example: When I asked for updates, the response was always "Well, it's busy" or "I'll make you next." Then I'd continue to see patients go in/out ahead of me. Not cool either. Once you see the doctor, things are fine. From what I can tell, he is the kind of doctor who entrusts his patients with a good amount of responsibility and advocacy for their needs, which is great. He asks astute questions and is cautious about his prescriptions, which is also good, since the goal is maintained self care not rx dependency. I will definitely be returning to this doctor but my strong recommendation is to modify scheduling practices. I am in my 30's and waiting 3 hrs, albeit an obscene amount of time to wait, is doable. But I saw elderly patients who left after the first 1hr of waiting because it was too taxing for them.
During my last visit I waited over 3.5 hours for my 2:00pm appointment. When I went to the desk to check in at 3 hours, I was told that they couldn't find my name on one of the multiple sign in sheets the receptionist had on her desk and she asked me to sign in again. I waited another half hour before becoming so frustrated I walked out. This doctor is really great, one of the best psychiatrists I have found; but the wait time is RIDICULOUS.
I went to the doctor's office a few times before and the wait time is not good. I wait over an hour to be seen even when I show up a half hour early for the appointment
Very personable and listens well.
Dr. Ash is very good and the staff is friendly, however the wait time can be long sometimes. If you don't mind the wait, you will be happy with this Dr.
Long wait but it was an anomaly. Great Doctor.
You have to push yourself to the front of the line. Otherwise, they will forget you are there. The ladies at the desk were unprofessional, but it seems everyone there was used to it. I felt like I had fallen down the rabbit hole. Every man for himself. The doctor was pretty good though. He listened to me and asked good questions. But the waiting room is a surreal experience.
Waited 4 hours for a five minute appointment. When I arrived there were eight people signed in ahead of me, but the office staff called no less than 15 people before remembering that I was there. UNACCEPTABLE
All the people complaining about wait time fail to realize that this guy is genuinely interested in you. He takes his sweet time to listen to anything you have to say. If you don't like waiting, you can go to one of those doctors that barely listen and just give you a prescription. Sure, you will wait, but this doctor is a gentleman and a star.
He was great, very kind. He has a lot of patients though so the wait is incredibly long. I will see him again anyway.
A couple weeks ago I had a very bad experience with another doctor so I was very nervous about this appointment. But Dr. Elshafei was an awesome doctor. He was very kind and patient. He listened to my concerns and I really felt like he wanted to help me. The ladies at at reception were also really friendly and nice. Great Doctor! Great office! I would highly recommend him.
The wait was ridiculously long. But office staff and Dr were great. We signed in and went to dinner! Came back and waits only 10 min.
Dr. Eishafei was attentive and understanding. He was very knowledgeable and addressed all of my issues.
Great ,good listener and knowledgab
The office confirmed my appointment (made 10 days in advance) about 3 hours before the scheduled time. I know it's Zocdoc and people are flakey, but I'd like that if I reached out to a psychologist the office wouldn't leave me unknowing if I had an appointment until the last minute. It was so hard to admit I needed help, I would have chosen a more stable doctor in lieu of going through the process of finding a new Doc all over again.
One hour to get there (not his fault), four hour wait, one hour to get back. Good bye day.
Never in my LIFE have i ever waited so long to see the doctor and i've visited the ER handful of times!!! 3-4 hour wait and broken bathroom. i missed a shift at work because the wait was so long . and when you ask how much longer the answer is always the same .... not that long . find another doctor unless you have absolutley nothing to do. and the office is in a basement no cell phone service no wifi or reception period !
He's okay but the wait time was over 3 hours with an appointment. And he only talked to me for 10 minutes. They overbook the office like crazy to get as much money as possible and it's obvious.
The wait time is ridiculous. I was seen two hours after my scheduled appointment time.
He took time and gave me thoughtful feed back. It wasn't as bad as previous reviews, but I went on a Saturday.
The wait was long, but that's probably to be expected. The receptionists were all very nice. Dr. E took did not rush through appt., was straight forward, but kind.
Liked the doctor BUT the office management was atrocious. Hours waiting, even with an appointment. Never matters what time your appointment is for - it will still be hours waiting. It's a shame - the doctor seems knowledgable and definitely has a good bedside manner.
Dr. Elshafei has a very pleasant manner. Most psychiatrists either rush you out with barely a word, or ask you way too many questions to the point where you feel interrogated. Dr. Elshafei asked appropriate questions and spent just the right amount of time with me. He didn't keep me waiting long either. He was very nice and knowledgable and I felt comfortable with him. He explained things and didn't talk down to me. I would definitely recommend him.
It was good. He is very professional and attentive
The wait is always a bit long for Dr. Ash. But he is worth it!
He took his time to listen about how I was having reaction to current meds and found alternative medication that hopefully will have no negative side effects.
Great Doctor but bring something to keep you busy. I had a 6:30 appointment and sat in the waiting room until 8:00.
He was patient, and listened. I would refer others to meet with him. Yes the office is very busy, but I believe after meeting the Doctor it is because he wants to help as many people as he can. The fact that his hours work for those who don't want to miss work is very helpful.
He is by far the nicest, most caring Psychiatrist I have ever had. The office wait time can be long when you need to see him, but that is only because he takes his tie with each patient and actually talks and engages with you. He doesn't look at you as another prescription. I also like that he remembers you, what you speak about. I highly recommend him and can't see myself going to anyone else.
Very professional and empathic.
Got my prescription wrong, and then when I needed it redone the office staff billed my insurance and asked me for another copay! Will report as fraud to my insurance company.
After the great reviews here, I was a little disappointed. I left with a script for something I want to try, but I also am not sure I'm going to fill it because it means coming back. The intake appointment was only 5 minutes long. He read through my notes but asked very few follow-up questions and made no real effort to put me at ease (I was very nervous about being there). As a result, he didn't get to know me at all. He didn't discuss options, just told me what he was going to do (but when I said I wasn't comfortable with it, did change tracks -- still no discussion of the pros and cons of each choice though). He also tried to push therapy, which was obviously not why I was there. I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed. He seems to know what he's talking about, but I wanted to be treated like a partner in my treatment, and am not sure this is the right fit. Huge wait time makes it hard, I'm guessing, to have appointments long enough to get to know the patient.
Kind ...understanding...compassionate... Knowledgeable and professional.
The defining feature of this doctor, sadly, is the waiting room. I sat in the Brooklyn office for two and a half hours before being seen for five minutes. I have no complaints about the care whatsoever, but there were a lot of patients getting agitated in disconcerting ways in the clinic's many waiting areas.
Over 2.5 hours again also being your own toilet paper and paper towels they never have any. Wish my insurance would cover other doctors
The doctor was very attentive and helpful. The wait time was insane. I waited for 7 hours to see him. The office procedures are not very good at all. I had no choice but to stay because I needed the medicine he would later prescribe for me.
I waited very long, but when I saw him, he was personable and seemed to know his stuff. I was impressed with his manner and knowledge.
He is great
The waiting time gets worse and worse. 3 hours today but he's a great doc and not many other docs take the insurance that most of the public has.
Great doctor but bring something to read you'll be waiting a long time to see him.
this is the worst place i have ever been to!
Wait time is absolutely ridiculous 4 hours for my last appointment! And I got there 1/2 early for my appointment slot
Its little wait time ,but it worth it .He great doctor, very understanding person
All of the reviews about wait time are true -- I waited for over an hour, and the only reason I was seen within two hours was because I told the front desk I was unable to wait any longer. Once I was finally seen, Dr. Elshafei didn't go over my family history or symptoms enough where I'm comfortable with my new prescription. I felt uncomfortable taking up more time, however, because I knew how many people were waiting. The only reason I'll be returning is because this office is incredibly convenient to my apartment.
I waited more than an hour, as the reviews show, but once I met him I was very much pleased. He treated me with respect and listened to my concerns about medications and past treatment outcomes. He went straight to the point, without run-arounds, and prescribed exactly what I needed to treat my illness.
Great doctor, but the medical receptionists who check in patients and manage scheduling do not seem to understand how to organize patients appointments. They make you sit and wait a long time. Always many patients waiting.
The doctor is fantastic. The wait and the staff are another story. Get ready to hear, "We're busy" from the staff often in regards to anything.
Doctor Elshafei is a great guy. He's respectful and caring. The wait at his office was a little long, but it is probably because he is worth the wait.
Doctor and his staff are very nice and professional. However, The wait is unbearable and the waiting area is extremely crowded with many screaming children. If you don't mind waiting two hours plus to be seen, then he is great. I think this doctor should have a play room for kids away from patients. After all, this is a mental health doctor.
He seemed very kind and knowledgable. The office staff were friendly and helpful. It was a good experience.
Fantastic! His night hours are unparalleled anywhere in Brooklyn. His staff was friendly, courteous, and helpful. The doctor was really friendly, and knowledgable. I was really dreading going (to any shrink, not this one in particular) and I'm really glad I was so wrong.
Good guy which may explain the number of ppl he sees a day lul
I have been seeing Dr. Elshafei for a few months now. At first, I was having difficulties with the office. He was great and I feel more "normal" than I have in at least two years, so he knows his stuff. However, I held off writing a review because his office staff was terrible. The phone would go unanswered. Voicemails and emails were not returned. I was charged a copay when I shouldn't have been. I was even charged just to walk in a pick up a paper prescription! I would call a week before my meds ran out and still wind up without medication, because the office staff didn't call back or never called the pharmacy. I spoke to the doctor about it at tonight's appointment and he said he was already taking care of it... and he has, because the wait time was less (it used to be hours), I got refunded the money I shouldn't have been charged, my email was answered and there are new faces at the front desk. I really like this doctor and now that his office staff is better, it takes away any stress I had. I'm thrilled I don't have to go elsewhere. The doctor is super easy to talk to. Great personality. Professional. I've tried a lot of docs in this great city of New York (at least those that will accept my insurance) and this one is THE BEST. Evening appointments, too! Perfect for me.
Wonderful staff. A little crowded but good doctor.
I've waited over 2 hours each time, pretty sure that place is making me crazier. Not sure if they have a wifi password.... When you go in its quick and straight to the point which works.
THIS IS A PILL MILL.
I needed to be seen regarding my anxiety - I probably should have read more deeply into his specialty - addiction. I felt slightly uncomfortable in the waiting room - one of the front staff was wearing a wife beater! About 10 patients came through just looking for prescriptions as I waited about an hour for an appointment that the office rescheduled for an hour earlier. The office felt like a lair, a ceiling was leaking, the bathroom had no paper towels to dry your hands. It might have been made up for if the doctor had an amazing personality, but I really didn't feel that way.
First visit and the first psychiatrist i can actually talk to and he understood what I was going through and had knowledge of what I was concerned about . Just wish the wait time wasn't sooo long. But another patient (while I was in the waiting room )told me he is worth the wait !!! And he was
Love this doctor. I know the wait is long, but I simply plan my day accordingly and make it work. Fantastic and caring, very professional. I've read reviews where people complain about the office staff, in my experience they're all super hard workers and I can assure you, if you're polite to them they're polite to you. I've seen them being yelled at and worse, so keep that in mind when you want to unleash on them because you've been waiting a while.
Gotta work on that waiting period or space out the patients so they're not overlapping. It takes away from the experience. The doctor himself is quite nice, but the wait time puts you completely off.
What I read about him on ZocDoc seemed accurate. I saw him in his Brooklyn office, but will continue to see him in Astoria. The center is nice (bathroom could use some upkeep). Bring a book. You will wait an hour past your appointment time. He seems wonderful. Professional, knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. I felt very at ease telling him anything. My next (second) appointment will be in his Astoria office and i will also see the therapist he works with for a combo of meds and talk. I have not met the therapist yet. Bonus for me (I work nights), Saturday evening appointments and my second appoint is at night. Perfect for me.
Excellent experience I recommend Dr Elshafie
After I first read the doctor's reviews, I was scared I was going to have to wait forever to see him. People in the waiting room were complaining about the wait while I was there but said he was very good and worth the wait. My appointment was for 8pm and I was able to see him by 8:07. Barely any wait for me. And I'd agree he is a very good doctor; even won an award for most compassionate doctor. I felt like he really tried getting to know me and my condition rather than just writing me a script and sending me on my way. I was very satisfied with the first visit and plan to continue treatment with him.
The entire office is kind and welcoming. I felt like dr. Elshafei was attentive and listened to my needs and made thoughtful suggestions. It's hard going to a psychiatrist and he made the entire experience comfortable. I'm looking forward to working with him more. Long wait, but worth it.
Very professional. Great listener.
Yes, there is a wait, but I feel he is a stand for actual patient care. And knowledgeable.
Highly recommend Dr. Ash. He is patient, understanding and a very competent doctor. His staff are incredibly polite and warm, they treat you respectfully at all times. The wait time is horrendous-- bring a book AND headphones. Do not succumb to the negative ranting of other patients. Bring something to occupy your time. Expect to wait 1.5-3 hours, especially on Saturdays.
After reading the reviews I was afraid of the wait time. I even came prepared with a book and water. I was very happy to see how nice and big and comfortable the waiting room was. I was ready to sit and wait and then I was called within 35 minutes. Dr. Elshafei was so wonderful and caring and able to help me monitor my medications that I would be willing to wait longer in the future (but hopefully not). I'm happy to have found my new doctor!
Great doctor. Kind and caring.
The wait was long. About an hour and 15 minutes because he had an emergency and got in late. That happens; but he was very nice and professional.
He is awesome. I love this Doctor
The doctor was good and had a great bedside manner. It's just that the wait time is horrific.
He helped me in exactly the way I wanted but the wait time was too long
Yes, there was a wait period, just as I expected, but I felt him to be exceptional as a professional and well worth it.
So far it has been five weeks, and despite visiting the pharmacy & calling the doctor every other day, as well as going back to the doctor's office pick up a new prescription when the old one expired, I have yet to obtain any of my prescribed medication.
well the doctor was extremely nice spoke nicely to my grandson, but the only thing that I didn't appreciate, if after working all day I asked if I can have an early appt. I was given a 6:30 appt. which was good but I didn't get seen until almost 10:30 pm that night not to mention that I got home way after 1AM to get up at 5:30 AM not cool for a first time client but it won't stop me from seeing him due that as I stated in my first lines the doctor was very nice, & well I guess with all the clients it can't be helped but way too late to see a child.
For all the people who complain about the wait & hound the receptionists about when they will be seen: my last two appointments I waited quietly and didn't wait more than maybe 35 min to see a doctor either time, and the girls at the desk let me know how much longer without me even asking at one point! It just goes to show you, you get more bees with honey than vinegar. I tend to think some of the "I waited three hours and they forgot me" horror stories here are more a result of lateness, rudeness and entitlement. Love Dr. Ash, love his awesome staff. I can't say enough good stuff about this office! I referred a family member as well.
I've been a patient here for over 1 year. The wait is usually long, but I'm noticing improvements with shorter wait times. Dr. Ashraf always provides great care and is always attentive.
Dr. Elshafei is excellent, as are the other professionals and receptionists at this practice. The guy knows what he's doing. Very friendly environment on the part of everyone who works there. Very caring demeanor. Seriously, these people are good. My only complaint is the, at times, ridiculous wait times. I don't know if it's because they have so many patients (be prepared for a PACKED waiting room at certain rush times) or what, but bring some entertainment and a charger for your phone because it could be a while. Most importantly, despite the wait times and the fact that it is geographically out of my way, I STILL come here because they are THAT good.
Doc Ash was personable and professional but the wait time is barely acceptable; the staff told me it's normally like that.
Hands down, the best doctor I've ever seen in this field, maybe the best of any field. I suffered from ADD/ADHD most of my life, untreated. When I first saw Dr. Ash, I couldn't organize myself out of a paper bag, seriously. I was badly affected by a recent family tragedy as well. I have a young child and its important to me to be a good parent. Because of Dr. Ash's sensitivity, support & medical knowledge, I know I'm capable of being the wife and mother my family deserves. He listens carefully, asks many questions (gently, so as not to cause anxiety), and has respect for you the patient. He will not make you feel crazy, or less than. He doesn't view you as a case, but as a person. Beautiful, elegant office, wonderful and caring staff. Yes, I wait a little bit, but I expect to, he's a great doctor! Everyone wants to see him! I bring my Nook & my headphones, I'm fine. Top marks, go see him. You won't regret it.
Great doctor, horrible wait time. I had to wait 2 hours to be seen.
His office is crazy busy but he's worth the wait
He put my mother on medication that gave her severe hallucinations and when I spoke with him about it all I got was basically an awkward "ohh.." Never again.
I love this doctor, always worth the wait! He's helped me so much. Love his staff as well.
Not worth the 2-3 hour wait.
The doctor is well versed in many psychiatric conditions, and is very compassionate and empathetic.
The wait times previously was pretty disrespectful at times waiting over 3-4 hours just to get a prescription. Last two times i've been there it's been a lot less people, Hopefully it stays that way
The Dr. Is nice and professional but my appointmwnt was at 11:15 and I was seen at 2pm. I will have to find another doctor.
It's was very professional
Ok he is just very busy
Wait times are the most outrageous thing in my history as a patient. Also there was General incompetence in getting my prescription sent to my pharmacy.
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Doctor was fine. But it took 2 hours and 45 minutes to see him. The last time took 90 minutes. There was no place to sit and wait except for the floor. There were at 8 to 10 people that had to stand. Couple that with kids running all over the place it was a terrible waiting experience. There was no help from the people at the desk as to why people were waiting so long.
Extremely nice doctor, but consistently more than an hour late.
I have mixed emotions...
He actually listened and was very sympathetic to my concerns. Wait time was a little in the long side but really was worth it.
great very professional
The doctor was nice and very thorough and the staff was friendly however the wait was very long and I wish someone would've called to push my appointment back instead of having me sit there
Very Worth the Wait. Thorough and Knowledgeable. Looking forward to my next visit.
The only problem that I encountered was the waiting period.
I waited a little over 3 hours to be seen tho i had an appointment. I had people who got their after me who saw the doc before me because they kept complaining. I wasnt able to get the script i needed tho showing proof i take it because he didnt believe i should be taking it. Might never see this doc again unless i had to.
It is always nice to speak with a doctor who listens and doesn't dictate medication . He is very kind and patient.
He's a great doctor! Very patient, very knowledgeable very compassionate too. I highly recommend him. Very nice staff too. Very attractive office too! Very convenient location. I'm very pleased. thanks so much!
The wait is always extremely long but today I waited 3 hours and the receptionist totally forgot about me - I was finally seen after I asked the 3rd time the status of my wait time. It was the worst. 3 hours for a 5 min visit with the doctor.
Good, he is professional.
Waited 3 hours at least. Terrible wait, expect to be there a while.
This doctor has too many staff members but no one work there willingly, only few workers are good other staff expect the other will work so lot of hussel and waste of time. I think doctor doesn't know this problem.
The wait time here is ridiculous. You have an appointment time and then aren't seen until hours after your appointment. Just making an appointment gives me an anxiety as I know I will probably be waiting five hours or longer.
First time there, the wait time was longer than expected. but meeting Ashraf El-Shafei,MD.was every professional and for one hour gave hope back to a marriage that was really hurt. i don't what the next session will be like but now i can go in to it with a open mine. Hoping my other half can do the same. But at least we're Trying. Thats a start . Thank you Doctor.
Dr. El-Shafei is great. He was able to figured out the issues I had with current medication and symptoms. The only downside is that there will always be a long wait. He treats a ton of patients but in my opinion, brings a lot of knowledge on medications because of that.
If he wasn't so great if be furious. Just bring a book. The couple near me agreed. Outrageous wait, but he's our man.
Good doctor but over books so you end up waiting for hours!
No Doubt one of the nicest doctor's I've ever met in my life. Extremley professional, caring with great knowledge. I highly recommend this doctor and his wonderful staff.
Good once the appointment finally started, but a long, long (over two hour) wait for a scheduled appointment.
Scam artist on the same level as a slumlord. First visit: waited 2 hours 40 minutes. This was after practically begging to see the doctor. Did NOT give a full prescription. Had to re-book in 2 weeks as a "new patient". I could not sit the entire time because each one of the couches had wood or metal pressing into your back. Second visit: He was not even in the office. No possible timeframe. Had to reschedule. There were about 30 people waiting. A "wellness center" with children crying, people leaning against the walls.
Awesome, friendly, open-minded doctor! It was a pleasure!
Wow! I just love this doctor. Slightly unconventional appearance but he is undoubtedly the best doctor I have ever had. He just gets it.
I was surprised by the lack of adherence to appointment times. Your appointment time is usually 30-50min before you are actually seen. You wait in a large room with 20 or so other patients until the psychiatrist is ready for you. He sits behind a large desk and peppers you with questions. Good service if you just want to get some prescriptions without any therapy. Not good service if you are seeking effective care. The office staff was somewhat aloof and unprofessional at times.
His office was gross, all spots were triple booked and his staff were unprofessional.
Took 3 hours.... Nuff said.
Wat a nice guy! Long wait time though, (45 min for me, and that's probably only because I read about the wait on here and showed up early to check in) but worth it for how nice this Dr. is. You can tell he really cares, and his office also runs therapy sessions in addition to regular medication appointment. Crowded and kind of dirty office though. Still, A+, I would recommend him to anyone; he will work with you and respect your decisions and needs.
The wait is long but the office is very comfortable, decorated nicely, the dr office is large enough and comfortable the dr is very sweet and nice, listen doesn't overwhelm you, and the great thing is that he gives you options on medication...he will place the order with the pharmacy and they deliver it to the office, amazing!!!
Wait time was about an hour and office was full of disgruntled waiting people. When I got in, though, it was short and sweet and got the prescription I needed.
The Dr. Is fine, but the wait is horrendous and his staff is incredibly rude. After begging them for an appointment where I won't have have to wait 2+ hours, I show up and wait 2+ hours.
professional, warm guy. listened, asked the right questions, and suggested possible solutions. wasnt pushy or cocky. but prepare to wait. i was there half hour before my appointment time and still waites an hour... bring a book. but totally worth it.
Long wait times , but you get treated for what you want . And the staff is friendly , best thing you do is go at a very late time to reduce wait .
He's very professional.
Dr. El-Shafei is great, but sometimes the wait is long. When there are a lot of patients waiting hist staff start to get nasty with the patients, but Dr. El-Shafei listens if you express a problem.
Very nice, professional and clear about the diagnosis and how he could help. Appointment was quick but felt thorough enough.
very kind and helpful
Very compassionate and knowledgeable
It was a first visit and it went well.
Worth the wait. I've seen 6 pediatric psychiatrists and he is great.
The visit went well. The wait was long, but it is worth it.
My first time to see Dr Ashraf I feel comfortable with him I just hope it works out for me.alot of people in the office and he was able to see me before them.
Great as always.
waited 4 hours for 10 minutes of consultation. worst doctor experience ever!!!!
I already knew from reading patient reviews that the wait time would be quite long. They weren't kidding! I waited for about three hours after my scheduled time. The office is comfortable and spacious - the staff are friendly and helpful. Dr. El-Shafei was very nice and empathetic. Even though he has a busy, successful practice, I was treated with respect and kindness.
The wait time is very long. But the doctor has a lovely bedside manner. Which explains people patiently waiting
The wait was extremely long but it was honestly worth it.
Dr. El-Shafei is an associate professor and conducts clinical hours in the nighttime. For my first appointment I arrived early (6:30pm) and the waiting room filled up by 7pm. I was seen before 7:30pm (being the second person seen). He was very cordial, professional, and attentive.
Excellent psychiatrist. This was my first time seeing Dr. El-Shafei and I immediately felt comfortable with him. The wait time is horrible! I waited 2 1/2 hours! The session itself was about 10 minutes, but I didn't feel rushed.
like the doctor. hate the wait time. they have to figure out a solution.
Very nice doctor and professional
He was really professional and helpful. I recommended to everyone
Ridiculously long wait. Almost 4 hours!
Great doctor the wait time was ridiculous!!!
Dr. El-Shafei is an awesome psychiatrist. You may have to wait to see him, but he is caring and patient once you get in to see him.
Yes. His office is like a Zen den. Very calming. Knowledgable doctor. Would recommend to anyone suffering with A.D.D/A.D.H.D.
I would highly recommend this psychiatrist and I will be back to see him in 2 weeks for him to monitor my medicine.
Nice doctor. He himself is quick and efficient. Happy that he takes medicaid. Scheduling is a mess though. There seems to be a dozen or so people booked for the same 15-30 min time slot and it doesn't seem uncommon to wait 4 hours to see him. I recommend bringing head phones and a book. This could be an all day event.
I was very concerned about going in for my 7:30pm appointment because everyone said the wait would be so long. He saw me at 7:25pm and I had everything taken care of by 8:15. He was able to listen to my problems and understood what I needed very quickly, but I didn't feel like he was rushing me.
Helped me more than any psychiatrist I've had in the past.
Great Doctor, very helpful, and listens to his patient, beside great and very helpful team also.
Wonderful and worth the wait, every bit. The supporting staff is wonderful along with the other doctor I have had the pleasure of interacting with. Highly recommend!
He's great! Beautiful office!
The wait was extremely long, but the doctor was very understanding and intelligent.
He apparently arrived late the day of my appt, so I waited almost an hour just to see him. His actual office is rather intimidating. You the staff told me I could see the doctor and just pointed to double doors. I opened them and he's behind a big desk. I mean, he was nice enough, but it felt like I was visiting the principal's office or something. Just not the most warm and welcoming environment in my opinion. When I showed up 15 mins early to my next appt the office wasn't even open, which is fine since I was early anyway. But I waited until 5-10 mins after my appt time and the office STILL wasn't open. No staff, no doctor, patients waiting at the door. Sorry but, I make it a point to show up on time, if not early but if the doctor isn't going to be there at least at the time of my appt, that's not cool.
The doctor was great. But my appointment was at 3:15pm and I wasn't seen till 8:30PM. A 5 hour wait is ridiculous and the staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful when asking how much longer till I was seen. Super bad experience and environment especially for someone who has anxiety problems. WAY TO INCREASE MY ANXIETY DOC!
A very non-business-as-usual experience. This place has a high volume of patients. The Dr's office is large, intrincately decorated with relaxing furniture, with the Dr's large desk in the middle of the room. Overall, history taking and goals of therapy were efficient and hit the most important features. Dr. El-Shafei is a venerable, trustworthy clinician. The most surprising feature was that he was able to have a local pharmacy delivery my meds to me in his waiting room < 15min following our session. Very convenient. Highly recommend.
Wonderful office. Lots of people there but because he's a great doctor.
Besides the long wait, Everything else was perfect. Took about an hour and a half before he saw me (after appointment time)
The doctor truly is caring and a wants,to,help. He not, only listened to me,but he stayed late to give me good advice and the medication that I needed. I highly recommend him. Just bring something, since it was a bit of a wait
Dr. El-Shafei himself is fine. Very professional. However, I have never waited less than an hour and a half to after my appointment time to be seen. I scheduled my last apt for 7pm. Shortly after 6, I got a phone call from a woman at the office saying that Dr. El-Shafei had to be out of the office by 9, and asked if I could come at 6:30 instead of 7. I arrived at 6:45, and was not seen until 9pm.
He was very friendly but our first session was only 10 minutes and I was able to get my anti-depressant prescription immediately. I just wonder if that's standard. Most of my first sessions are much longer. He did say that he would contact my former psychiatrist and that made me feel more comfortable. My biggest complaint was waiting 40 minutes! Otherwise, he was the friendliest psychiatrist I've ever had!
Definitely great with people
You know how in movies there will be some dramatic sequence in which the terminally ill patient character flies all the way to Mexico to see this doctor who is renowned for his unorthodox healing practice, and as a result, his "office" is packed with the hopeful, who will wait any amount of time to see this doctor? That's the best comparison I can make to what it was like seeing Dr. El-Shafei. I have never waited as long as I did for an appointment or at that time of night (appointment was scheduled for 7:30 pm, I was on my way home a little after 10 pm). Thankfully, I read the other reviews first, and with the limited options my insurance provides, I didn't really have too much of a choice. So I packed a bag of work and asked for the wifi password once I got there, which certainly helped past the time somewhat. Dr. El-Shafei is a real nice man and didn't try to change my medication regimen (I have ADHD and I've been taking the same medicine for years), but I also just needed a new psychiatrist to do med management and pick up where my old doctor left off...who I had to leave because he was no longer accepting my insurance. But is he worth the wait? Probably not, especially when you consider his field. It's not exactly relaxing to wait for hours. I'm going to go to at least one more appointment with him and if the wait time isn't at a "pull my hair out" level, I will stick with this doctor.
He was thorough and showed great concern and compassion for my issues. And his area was peaceful and calming.
The doctor himself isn't that bad, I would say ok. Regardless of the which office I go to, or day of the week the wait time is minimum of 2 hours! Also his staff, isn't professional or courteous. If you have private insurance, look at other options.
Dr. El-Shafei is amazing! My problem in the office is his support staff. The people at his desk are not always the nicest. I found out they had told him they had been calling me to find out why I had missed 6 months of appointments when they hadn't, they lied to him when he went to them concerned about mine and my wife's absence. He is a genuinely nice person, will take the time to listen to your concerns about your meds, what is going on in your life, and if need be, complaints about his support staff. Bring something to entertain yourself because the wait time can be very long sometimes, but he will give you the time you need when you are called in to see him. He is the only psychiatrist I have seen for more than 3 months without getting fed up with and giving up on my meds. He has changed my life for the better.
Wait time was a bit long but well worth it!!!
WAITED FOREVER. TERRIBLE. 2+ hours is unacceptable.
I was very pleased with the doctor, but the wait was unbelievably long. His staff mentioned that he usually arrives late, causing the backup of appointments.
Despite the long wait Dr. Asraf El-Shafei was wonderful. He listened and I could tell he cared for my well-being. It made the anxiety of waiting disappear once I met with him. Just be patient, he's great.
Doctor is fine, but environment is awful!
Very friendly and professional. He listened well and gave an informative opinion.
Excellent. Very professional, intuitive and understanding.
Every single one of my appointments has had a 2+ hour wait time. The staff is unhelpful and often gives incorrect information. Once, they sent me to an appointment when the office was closed! The other patient who showed up was just as upset. Even worse, there is practically no way to speak to the doctor himself unless you are at the appointment.
He was great, once I got it to see him. I awaited almost two hours to be seen though. But the waiting room was very nice. So if you bring something to do, and expect to wait for a long while, he's worth it.
It was worth the wait, the Dr is very thorough and caring. Just be prepared to check in and go out to do something else for a few hours. The wait is extremely long. Knowing that in advance, helps.
As other reviewers have said, the wait is incomprehensibly long. Having read these reviews I was lucky to be able to make a same day appointment (apparently a cancellation or something as there was not another appointment for weeks after that) at 8 pm, though I knew I would not be able to get there for over an hour after that. I arrived at 9:15 and waited until 10:30 in a crowded room (though I could find a seat)...I wonder how late other people were there? I've never seen people at a doctor's office before this late at night, but I was thankful I could see someone sooner on the calendar than later that got decent reviews. He listened and seemed competent in his assessment, we'll see what happens with finding the right meds.
He was perfectly nice and helpful, and the office was nice, but the wait took FOREVER.
Waiting for this doctor was the worst experience. Would never go back.
I waited for two hours but it definetly worth it!!!
Great doctor, he was very efficient without me feeling rushed in any way. I felt very comfortable talking to him and trusting his judgement. The wait time was about an hour fifteen/hour and a half, but I was prepared for that based on the reviews. Fyi: There's a wifi password for that long wait. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!
It is a Great Doctor, takes his time seeing his patient, talks freely to you, you feel as a friend more than your Therapist, trying his best to help you, I do highly recomand doctor Ashraf.
Great doctor....worth the long wait!
I am in the waiting room for what is probably my 4th mad hopefully last appointment. Dr. El-Shafei is friendly and knowledgeable. However the wait time at th office is horrendous. I've been waiting for an hour so far and do no expect to be seen any time soon, since every other time I've been here I've waited 1.5-2 hours past my appointment time to be seen. It's especially odd since the patient turnover seems quite slow. The same people have been sitting here since I've arrived. I've seen the doctor come out of his office several times, but I've only noticed him taking a patient in with him once. This extensive wait every month simply is not worth it!
Knowlwdgable and professional. Great doctor. The only downside is the wait time... Most times you may wait over an hour just to see the doctor for a follow up or initial visit. Also would appreciate if the admin staff would expedite appointment reminders - but after several visits, never one appointment reminder phone call.
He's a very good doctor, listened, asked questions, trusting. Wait time was ridiculous.
It was good.
I do not recommend him, horrible 'service'.
The wait was far too long and the staff was not good about updating the patients on the wait nor did they make apologies.
Very long wait very crowded place very little time given by the dr to patient many patients have to wait standing up before being called
Very Helpful and Professional. He recommended me to a therapist in his office who is fabulous
I had to wait over 3 hours after my appointment time. I will never return here again.
The wait time is ridiculous...always over booked and crowded....waiting four hours and counting!!!!!
The worst part about the visit was the over 2 hour wait, half of which I stood for because of the amount of people in the room. It felt like a medical farm. I knew which medication I wanted going in, which I was able to get, but if you're not a fan of waiting for what you want I would suggest going elsewhere. Otherwise, it is exactly what you would expect going to a psychiatrist. If you want someone to actually sit with you for 45-60 minutes in order to have a full counseling session, go to a therapist of any kind. In general, psychiatrists are really only there to prescribe medication. The guy was nice enough.
The wait was insane but hes a great doc!
It was great, although the wait took FOREVER (over two hours).
the doctor was the best i ever went to. very caring ,and took alot of time explaining my treatment options.he also made navigating my insurance a brease.the staff was wonderfull, but the 3+hour wait was horrible.some of the other patients said the waiting time was always like this, but i will continue to see this doctor anyways.
I waited 4 hours to get seen for this appointment. Four hours is not unusual for any appointments I've had so far. I called his office several times and only to have the voicemail answer. I also left messages although they were never answered leading me to make my appointment online.
lobby was packed. staff unprofessional / non-attendant. my session was interrupted three times by another staff member walking in on it to deliver papers or a message. highly unprofessional environment.
while waiting to see him for over 2 hours and watching every single patient come out of his office within the time frame of 10-20 minutes max with a prescription in their hand i was a bit hesitant. I only went to see him twice and the wait to see him was way too long for my patience. Neverthless, when i did finally get a chance to meet him, he was very professional, he did listen to the issue at hand, and explained what i was experiencing at that moment, however i did feel a bit rushed being that his lobby was filled with patients. i was hoping to get into the depths of my issue and figure out the origin and the skills needed to work through my problems in the future however, He pushed a prescription on me and sent me on my way with the next appointment to see him 3 months later. after my second appointment, i cancelled my third appointment and have never gone back to him. i would have loved to give him a better chance however i feel that he is too busy to fully dedicate himself to each individual patient and feels that every issue should be cured via medicine. i have never gotten a call from his staff to find out why i have not made any further appointments with him or why i cancelled my last appointment with him more than 3 months ago.
He's very good at what he does. He is mindful of the situation 100%. He allowed me to speak and not automatically jump to conclusions regardless of his years of experience. They say that it is worth the wait, and I agree. However, the staff in the Astoria location should be replaced; they are rude and uninviting. I walked into the office and one of two secretaries was available, yet I still signed without a greeting. Not even with simple smiling eye contact. They are unprofessional and laugh like no one is around. I hope the secretaries don't work in both locations, because I would hate wait another 2 hours hearing laughing hyenas before I see the doctor.
He was great! Soft spoken and understanding of the problem. I would recommend him to anyone!
My wait time the first time was over 4 hours long The reception room is overcrowded every time I go in, there are always so many people in to see the same one doctor (maybe that's a good sign), however, receptionists are always walking in and out of the room during appointments, so nothing feels confidential and I hardly feel as if the doctor is even listening to me. Sitting with him, yes, he made me feel comfortable and since he's the only person in my area who accepts my insurance, with weekend and late night appointments, I have to stick with him but I really wish appointments were more organized, no matter what time your appointment is, you'll wait forever.
Unprofessional, unapologetic dirty environment. Will never return.
He was great. Soft- spoken and caring. He cares about the patient not the problem.
Best doctor ever, was listening to you careful, i hope i will change my mom's ins. since he was not taking the one she has, i strongly recommend him, BEST BEST BEST 5STAR Doctor
I recommend every one Dr. Ashraf is very kind, soft spoken and very quick on picking up the situation.
The Brooklyn office is very nice. It reminded me of a spa waiting room. Nice leather sofas soft music playing. However; the receptionist was sloppily dressed and seemed very nonchalant. The doctor was well dressed and very easy to talk to. He seemed concerned for me and my well-being. The doctor was very good.
The wait was over half-hour and was not explained, and the visit (my first) was swift, but Dr. El-Shafei was quite knowledgeable and helpful.
Great Doc, just the waiting time in too much.
You are required to wait at least 3 hours for the doctor before every visit. He is a good doctor but not worth the wait!
Es muy buen profesional
He is a great listener!
After reading reviews on wait time I expected my 745pm appointment in his Long island city office to take some time to be seen but that wasn't the case I was seen by 830 and I actually took it upon myself to arrive earlier than my appointment anticipating longer wait but it was as smooth as can be. Dr. Ashraf did not rush me whatsoever rather he listened and took all the time needed to answer my questions he was very knowledgeable in a new treatment plan and also took it upon himself to schedule a therapy session as it is vital combined with medication to get back on mental well being. He said if I do not feel comfortable with the therapist I see next week just tell him and he will switch me to another which I thought was nice of him to explain. I follow up in 2 weeks with him and next week with the therapist. He provided me with emergency contact information if I need it and overall I had a great meeting with him he cares. He knows what he is talking about trust me. Also try to book at night and also zocdoc failed to provide the office with my information for registration for my appointment but the young lady at the front desk said it was no problem and put me in the system. So I suggest calling the doctors office to confirm your appointment even if ZocDoc says it will happen.
Very nice office setting, pleasant staff, and the Doctor was thorough with explanation of treatment.
He is an amazing doctor. His staff, however, make it hard for me to bring myself in sometimes. They are rude, impatient, and downright nasty. If I weren't so happy with Dr. El-Shafei as a practioner I wouldn't put up with his staff.
This doctor is a not only a gentleman and put me at ease but more importantly knew what he was talking about. I am definitely trying to book another appointment to get my med situation figured out. I have zero criticisms - only that the wait time was a just bit shorter although it wasn't as bad as others said whatsoever.
Dr. Shafei is the best at his profession there is. Having worked in hospitals around doctors for the last 20 years, I honestly say he is the most caring, positive and earnest doctor I know. I highly recommend Dr, Ash (as we call him) , You will not be disappointed.
Es un excelente profesional. Me resulto muy afable, haciendome sentir comodo en su presencia; manejo mi situacion con mucha eficiencia, ofreciendome la orientacion necesaria.
The office's style and interior design looked amazing, very calming looking. The doctor was attentive, listened, didn't waste time, and got straight to the problem. He was very knowledgeable and I didn't feel intimidated. Two social workers provide therapy there and have evening schedules which is great. The wait was long and the waiting room became crowded quickly, but it was worth it.
As this being my first visit, I think he is a good doctor with understanding the waiting time was long & too many people at the waiting area making noise, talking very loud. But as a doctor, yes I would recommend him to others.
would recommend highly if i hadnt had to wait 2.5 hours after my appt time was supposed to be.
Best doctor ever but the wait time is ridiculous. Typical wait is 2+ hours and sometimes you have to sit on the floor.....if there's room. Patients also like to bring their entire families with them to appointments, which adds to the lack of seats. I've never seen anything like it- folks will actually bring their spouses, children, parents and extended family members to appointments like it's a night out on the town. Perhaps it's the allure of the comfy couches there? Regardless, El-Shafei is the best doc in town and he's well worth the wait if your schedule can accommodate it. The man legitimately cares about each of his patients.
Dr El-Shafei was kind, knowledgeable and empathetic. He listened and knew exactly how to treat my many problems while staying sensitive to other medications I am on. He knows what he is doing.
He was very caring and took the time to truly listen to my concerns. I felt like he cared about me.
The visit was pleasant, and he was great. The wait could use some work.
I love the office and the staff however the wait was a bit too long but over all a good experience.
I really enjoyed it. He is very easy to talk to and he put me at ease. I look forward to working with him.
i made a new friend
I was satisfied
Doctor Elshafei is a great psychiatrist who's office is run awfully. I saw him regularly for about a year and a half. My average wait time in his office was two hours. Regardless of whether you had an appointment patients were always seen first come first serve and there were always many walk-ins. Coming in early or booking early appointments did not help as he often arrived at the office late.
nice office to go along with excellent professional matters.
I enjoyed meeting with the doctor and found him easy to talk to. He had knowledge about things related to my needs which helped me to feel as if he understood why I was there.
An amazing doctor, shorter waits for repeats!
Went well. Happy-TY ZocDoc.
It was my first visit with this Doctor. He seems to understand the problem. I would be able to tell after few more visit.
Zoc doc please give an option for no stars!! Without going into specific detail of the incompetence and rudeness... I will just say that it's a shame when doctors and their staff take for granted they have a business due to patients. The doctor and staff here is what I would call "overly nonchalant" Oh you have to wait 2 to 3 hours to be seen... oh well Oh I didn't inform you how that medicine would work and it took you two weeks to figure that out on your own... oh well Oh you don't like it here.. oh well They don't care about their behavior or losing patients because they have plenty of patients (triple/quadrupled booked) to make their money And my search continues for a decent doctor...
Dr. Ashraf is the best doctor I have ever had. Yes, we all know that the waits in the waiting room become excessively long, yet we all keep coming back because of Dr. Ashraf's insight and helpfulness into our cases. Intelligence and knowledge on conditions are necessary in his field- but Dr. Ash offers something additional that is very special- a personal, empathetic quality that makes every visit very valuable and meaningful. I consider the whole operation an elegant and productive experience despite the wait. Yes, we are all tired at the end of the day and do not like waiting.....it is like the Wizard of Oz when the big door opens and you can go in! But let's keep in mind that Dr. Ashraf leads a full and dynamic career at New York Medical College. He is a constant learner and true example of dynamic medicine. I am sure he constantly has 18 hour days helping people, so when I walk in, the first thing I always do is smile and then take a seat. I am thankful to be treated by such a professional person and pleasant man. Thank you! Siobhan
It was the 1st visit but so far so good. He was real with everything, and I would love to see what the future brings with seeing him
Knows what he's doing
He was very perceptive and efficient. He was also kind and understanding of my circumstances.
Pill pusher i have seen more professionalism at crack houses.
He was great. The wait was obsurd, appmnt was 8:30pm, saw him at 11:00. Was out of office at 11:30pm.
love Dr. El-Shafei and I think his staff handles the volume of people the best they can, but it's obviously overbooked when I am not seen till close to 11 p.m. for an 8 p.m. appointment. There are very few good psychiatrists in Brooklyn and I guess I am not the only one who has been to all the others and will just suffer the wait rather than go somewhere else. He is kind and understanding and willing to work with you instead of talking over you.
Great doc horrible wait time!
He was great. The waiting was a little annoying but totally worth it.
Very long wait time...brutal actually.. but so worth it after the session with him. He's very kind, takes the time to listen and is very compassionate. I always feel better after seeing him!
Disclaimer: I went to Dr. Ashraf's office fully knowing there'd be a considerably long waiting time (according to other's reviews); I was willing to entertain the notion & figured "why not" for testing purposes of sorts. A couple of these people doling out stellar reviews must have never experienced what it is to deal with a true medical professional. Dr. Ashraf's complete & utter disregard for his patients' time is ridiculous. Having to wait close to THREE hours to see him after your alloted appointment time is unprofessional & shows complete lack of respect & common courtesy. If this is his MO, there really should be no need to actually show up at your supposed appointment time; just go to the Dr's office 2 hours later (and hope your waiting time is less than hour after that). I feel bad for the reception area. They were as nice as nice can be for dealing with highly irritated & beyond-impatient patients waiting to see the doctor. Close to 3 hours waiting time in order to see a Dr for no more than 10 mins isn't my idea of a calming waiting time before seeing a psychiatrist. This will most certainly be the 1st & last time going to Dr. Ashraf's office.
Dr. Ashraf is very professional and welcoming to his patients, despite seniority; and he will personally assure his relationship with you is an effective and productive one, much like his diagnoses are precise and accurate. The only problem is the wait time, but that's only because his time is highly demanded with a high volume of patients awaiting care - but everyone gets the time they want and need, and it's well-worth the sometimes excessive (2+ hours) waiting period. Look elsewhere for psychotherapy, but look no further if you're seeking addiction counseling or sound psychiatric assistance. He's a great professional and a good man.
First time visits take forever, but afterwards it's 123. I've been with him for a few years now and highly recommend him.
Dr. El-Shafei's office is nice. It's very Zen like. The front desk workers (2) were rude at first but as the day progressed their attitudes changed. The office opens at 10.am on Saturdays but the Dr. strolled in at about 11:45. Although he was late Dr. El-Shafei was helpful and his bedside manner was acceptable. The only true problem was the wait time. My app. was for 11:45 a.m, I arrived at 11:30 but wasn't seen until 2:30p.m I went to the office for weight management and saw Dr. El-Shafei first for about 15 min. then he sent me to the other Dr. that also works in the office, and I spent about 20 min. with her, for more consultation. Overall I spent about 4 hours in the office and only spent about 35 to 45 min with the Dr/s ;(
Very happy I found him!
Great doctor only drawback is the wait time
Very good doctor....but long, long wait period.
The wait sucks day or night
Waited over 4 hours to not be heard and to just be handed 3 RX slips so no due diligence to see if I even need any drugs or have any allergies or contradictions. He should have his medical license taken away. GO ELSEWHERE!
I love him and his staff but the wait was unreal. I would not switch to another psychiatrist, though, because it is really hard to find one that is this compassionate and understanding.
After the 3 hour waiting time I felt a little bit rushed to get out of the doctor's office after 10-15 minutes. This was my first visit. The receptionist entered the room without knocking to give the doctor the next patient's folder. Aside from this rude way of basically kicking me out I found the doctor a really pleasant professional to talk to. How the medication he prescribed will work only time will tell.
It did not feel personal because the waiting room was full of patients and according to secretary their was a wait of more then 1 hr .
Good doc but i have seen up to 4 hour wait times. Book at night
he was a good listener, asked pertinent questions, had good ideas, was patient and kind, spent a good amount of time with me, convinced me he could help me, did not make me feel stupid or crazy
Great listener cares about the person
Horrible experience. Scheduled a PSYCHOTHERAPY appointment a month in advance. Doc El-Shafei was one hour late. When I told him that I was there for psychotherapy he told me he does not offer this type of treatment. At least he was polite and offered back my copayment and did not charge my insurance. More than the doc I blame ZocDoc. This is the third time that I scheduled psychotherapy. The first doc called back saying he did not accept my insurance (although ZocDoc stated it was). The second doc after a 15 min conversation told me he would not do psychotherapy himself, however would have referred me to one of his therapist. This was 2 months ago and his office has not found an available therapist yet. The third experience is summarized above.
It was no good he just want to reapoff the Medicaid he wants to see me 2 times a month
Dr. Ash is awesome however, the wait times at his office are absolutely deplorable. A 6:00 appointment won't be seen until way past 8:00. Office is always crowded, often standing room only. In this day and age of high efficiency and computer based services his office management is miles behind his colleagues. This alone may impel many to seek another shrink. I mean, who wants to spend 3 hours in a Dr.'s waiting room for a 10 minute visit? Only if you need a Rx refill.
Great doctor but wait time is horrific. Bring a book. Even if you have an appointment, you will not be seen for another 2+ hours.
No joke about the wait time! Expect to wait a minimum of 2 hours! And there is no 3G or Internet, so don't expect your phone to carry the day. There are no reading materials, only pretty Egyptian looking artifacts and vases. The office is the nicest office I've ever seen. The doctor is very nice and is not judgemental. Feel free to tell him anything.
While the wait was a little ridiculous, I knew this going and and was prepared. Having said that, it was definitely worth it. I've seen many psychiatrists and he was by far the best - very compassionate with a full knowledge of various treatment plans.
He is very kind and put me at ease immediately.
Hes an excellent doctor. Since he had a lot of patients, the wait time was long but it was worth it. Really takes his time to listen to you.
The staff is great, the late and weekend hours are great.
Very professional doctor, highly recommend
Good. Just waited too long and then the session was so short .. But it was my first time.
Very nice & Paitient!
he's a pill pusher. don't even think he made eye contact.
Only if you need meds..
He's the best in his field, I highly recommend him!
He's very nice and understanding, but the wait was waaaay too long.
He is wonderful and very kind. Thank you.
worth the wait. bring a book and a snack. the best psychiatrist ive been to.
Nice person. Professional. Just was too far for me
Seems to know his stuff.
The wait was long (but I expected it, thanks to other reviews here) and visit time was short but efficient. The Dr. completely understood my situation and prescribed accordingly. Next time though, I *will* bring a book!
Great doctor really listens to your problem and give positive feedback.
Very caring and intelligent doctor. You won't be disappointed. The office is an amazing space but the wait time is outrageous.
great...walk in...get my script in 25-45 mins...varies each time...dont even have to see him and what i go for thats convenience. if i need to talk..they have people.....i can see why it takes 2 months for an appt.
He was extremely pleasant and was very easy to talk to. I felt very comfortable and don't dread going back to see him
Awful. Worst outpatient medical experience ever. The wait is over 2 hours and simply unbearable. His office purposely double and triples up appointments at the same time so patients wait forever. The visit with the doctor is under 5 minutes. Bedside Manner: He's a complete robot.
Overall, a very positive experience once I was seen, but there was a very long wait time and my visit with the doctor was relatively short (20-30 minutes)
Waited for the psychiatrist for more than 2 hours and the session was for 20 minutes. I think for a very small population, this therapist would do well. Not my cup of tea; it's unprofessional to have a patient wait that long without communication saying that the wait is longer than expected.
He's great, very kind, friendly and professional.
Very pleasant staff and very professional and humanly warm feedback from the doctor
Dr. Ash is professional and extremely knowledgeable. He took time to tease out my issues a reccommend a course of treatment which we were both happy with. Without any reservations I highly reccommend him to anyone searching for a good psychiatrist!
He's nice, helpful and easy to talk to. But just know the wait time is off the charts--your appointment time doesn't actually mean anything. Just come early, sign in and bring a book.
Wait time was less than usual but it was still a little wait. He's a great doctor just wish it wasn't an all day event.
This was my first time seeing Dr. Ashraf. He's an awesome doctor. He listened to my weight problems and asked many questions. When I left I was very satisfied with the plan. I'm very excited for my scheduled biweekly appointments.
Comfortable and modern office; has late evening hours and for that reason probably many patients; I was there on time but still had to wait over one hour. The actual consultation was about 15 minutes, but he was very courteous, took lots of notes and explained the course of treatment patiently. I would have liked a more thorough diagnostic process, but given the short time I spent with him it was sufficient.
He is great at getting positive results to your problem.
The wait time was very long but I understood now as this was my first visit. He was worth the wait and understand that he would have many patients. He actually took time to ask questions, read over my previous physician's notes and discuss the information. This was my first time with him but I am not new to psychiatrists.. he seemed extremely sincere and as if he is in it for the help of the patients.
The wait time was ridiculous! The doctor isn't bad, but his staff didn't even tell anyone he was delayed.
The wait was ridiculous but he was patient and an excellent listener.
Very smart man, he knows his stuff! There is a lot of waiting involved in seeing him but he is worth the wait!! A+++
Excellent Office staff and Doctor. Was attentive, full of compassion and in no rush. Detailed in his assessment and willing to make appt to fix my schedule.
Very good doctor but wait time is about 2 hours. Bring a book to read you will need it.
Best, brainiest psychiatrist ever. Knows his stuff!! Be prepared to wait about 2 hours to be seen, though. No joke.
Would see again.
Based on other reviews I was expecting Dr. Ashraf to be incredible. I sat with him for about 10 minutes and told him what was going on in my life and he listened and wrote things down. He didn't speak much, but he seemed somewhat supportive, and told me that we were going to work on getting me healthy and happy, overall I though he was just alright, I will continue to use him in hopes that our sessions improve. He did seem to have a cold, maybe he was just out of it.
very nice man but feel like he tries to push extra meds on me.
I really like this Doctor, and I love that he does evening appointments. However, the wait times are just ridiculous. Sometimes he doesn't even show up to the office until 30-45 min AFTER it opens! They also schedule multiple patients for the exact same time. Tell me, how do 5 people see the same Doctor at 7pm? And when I'm the 2nd person to sign in (because I know to get there early), how am I the 5th one seen, when we all have the same appt time? Their time-management skills are terrible. I know he wants to help as many people as he can, but it really is a disservice to the patients, and they really should reconsider how they make appointments.
Great as always, but now in a nice new office.
Extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. Willing to listen and suggest alternatives
Lovely man, very kind and courtly - has a great sense of humor and cares very deeply for his patients and their emotional well being. It is a bit of a wait, inevitably, so bring a book or an I-pod. He is certainly worth the wait.
Nice guy, managed my meds well but he WAY overbooks his appointments. On more than one occasion my appointment was scheduled for 6pm and I wasn't seen until 8:30. He doesn't refill scripts over the phone and requires that you go in monthly to see him. Completely unnecessary.
He's really wonderful. Smart, caring, straight forward and willing to work with you on any concerns. I'm recommending him to all my friends that are nervous about seeing a psychiatrist for the first time. I've been to both the Brooklyn and the Queens office and both are nice. However, you will wait at least an hour. Bring a book.
Gave me positive outlook on how he will help me on my journey.
I think that it was time worth the wait. He is very informative and will help you out definitely if the initiative to ask a question is taken. The receptionists are friendly and very helpful.
The wait is long, but I went expecting that and it was fine. Totally worth it.
The docotor is more than excellent, He has a good knowledge and he listened to me. I really like the place it's very nice and luxurious and makes you very comfortable and staff is very helpful and nice. I will not exaggerate if I say he's the best doctor i ever met
He listens very well, talks to you and tells you the honest truth. Feel comfortable in confiding in him.
Dr. Elshafei is an amazing doctor. He was sweet, patient, and a great listener. His staff was amazing and very friendly, the office is setup as if it was a spa and not a doctor's office which was very calming and comfortable. The wait time was very fast, I saw the doctor in less than ten minutes. And I would've waited hours to see Dr. Elshafei, he is an amazing doctor and he is worth the wait. I'm looking forward to my next appointment with him.
Pretty quick once u finally get in to see him, he can have you in and out in 15 min. Nice so far, I'll be back
Dr Ash is really a very understanding man. There is such a demand to see him which explains the ridiculous wait time. He does see all of his patients and will leave out of the office at midnight if he had to.
This guy is BRILLIANT, and really cares about his patients well being, I know, I have seen a lot of dr.'s my whole life... Daniel Spivak Shamir firstname.lastname@example.org
Dr. El-Shafei was wonderful. Yes it was a long wait, but I expected that because of the reviews, and what good doctor doesnt have a wait time. He was very caring, he listened, & he was very knowledgable. I would highly recommend Dr. El-Shafei. It is very hard to find doctors like him, when you sit with him you know that he is not a doctor because of the money, he is a doctor that actually cares, and you can tell he enjoys helping people.
It's just too long of a wait making the entire trip last a full day.
The doctor himself was fine, but the office was extremely disorganized, unprofessional, and unclean.
I always enjoy my visits with Dr. El-Shafei!
I waited at least two hours. the doctor walked in very late. many patients were in the waiting room already waiting since 9 am and he walked in at 11 30. once i got in there he was in such a rush. i do not recommend.
Super nice guy, very helpful, a good listener and non-judgmental. However, on more than one occasion I have been on time for my appointment and had to wait for 2+ hours to see him. And his Brooklyn office is open until 11 or 12, so that means getting out at 11:30 or so at night. Sorry, but not worth it. Sitting in that waiting room with a bunch of tired, floppy people is almost as depressing as the actual depression I go there to get medication for.
If you can get past the unprofessional staff in front who are basically young , uninterested kids, he is an amazing and compassionate doctor.
This is the only psychiatrist office I've ever been to that you actually feel crazier than you did walking into the office. Without fail you will wait at least an hour, usually more for your 10 minutes with the doctor. Systematic failure. Do not go here.
I really like Dr. Ashraf and think he's a great doctor. He's very understanding and takes his time in talking to you. His office is always busy and one would assume that with such a large patient base, he would rush each patient. However, he never does that. He takes his time and tries to understand your needs. On a different note, wait time is horrible. Sometimes I have to wait 3 hours to see him. His staff is not nice, except for one person. They dnt believe in smiling or interacting with patients much, which is unbecoming since some patients wait so long. The least they can try to do is comfort the patient...a little.
he is worth the wait. bring a book, an e-reader, your ipod, or your laptop, and get comfie. you will be in good hands.
I really like Dr. El Shafei. He's a great doctor - caring, intelligent, clearly knows what he's doing. The only issue I had was the wait. Oh boy, the wait could be long. He sees a lot of patients so at least it was understandable, but it could still be pretty bad.
It was good. His times are late that is the problem and his office is hard to find.
Wonderful doctor. Great bedside manner. Very down to earth person in general. He is definitely worth the wait time to see him.
Great doctor, listened very closely to my symptoms and provided great recommendations and advice for new medication.
A good doctor who wasn't one of those doctors who writes you a prescription justbtonget to the next patient. Listened and made me feel comfortable. The wait was an hour though, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time around it.
Dr. El-Shafei is concise and professional. He addressed my concerns, described my new medication and planned a follow up visit in order to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
Spoke spanish,( A plus), humble and very patient.
He was very patient and compassionate. Will definitely return!
always great, long-ish wait, but its worth it. not many great doctors out there, and he is one of the best.
I adore Dr. El-Shafei, he's really worked with me to find the right regimen. My only complaint is the long wait time. It can be REALLY LONG. He's obviously very popular and often overbooked.
Dr. Ash is kind and very knowledgeable. When I first started seeing him several months ago the wait time was horrible--up to 2 hours--and many of his young staff were unprofessional. Since then the office has worked hard to fix things: He makes sure patients do not wait more than 30 minutes max and the staff is generally professional and collegial. He listens well, is extremely empathetic, and goes out of his way to accommodate patients. I would recommend him.
Doctor was great, the wait time was unacceptable.
Extremely intelligent. Was able to explain medical problem in a fashion that I would understand. Would recommend him highly to my family and friends.
The doctor is awesome but the wait is ridiculous not sure if I'll return. I waited 3 hours to be seen for a 10 min appointment
Icannot praise this man enough - he is an excellent physician, he is very nice and he WILL make you feel very comfortable. There is a bit of a wait, but his office is beautiful and quite relaxing. Put yourself in this man's care - he is wonderful.
The first appointment I made was cancelled late the night before by email. I rescheduled, and then on the day of the appt, I waited for more than two hours, and then saw Dr. El-Shafei for less than five minutes (literally)- and I was a first-time patient for depression!
The doctor was pleasent and informative.
As always, a wonderful mental health professional. He truly cares about his patients and is wonderfully knowledgeable. The wait time is ATROCIOUS - I have never waited less than 2 hours, and I've seen him three times - but I have tried other psychiatrists and I just came back to Dr. El-Shafei. I bring a book and expect to read for 2 hours. That's how good he is. If you're willing to do the same to get a great doctor, then book with confidence.
Excellent visit, we cried, we laughed, he made us feel at ease! We see light at the end of the tunnel! Highly recommended!
the best psychiatrist ive ever had. a great guy, good sense of humor, knowledgeable, and empathic. he truly is great at his profession.
Dr. Ashraf is really a great doctor but the wait times are terrible. Wish they were better with appointment scheduling so that you are not there for 2 hours waiting. However I will still be going back to him despite the wait time.
i was a new patient there he did not take tyme to kno me he just rush everyting he dont ask me the baisc like how older are waht school u attend etc its ridiculous.
Doctor is great. The wait time is getting worse and worse.
I have seen Dr. El-Shafei more than once, and he is a nice guy, but don't go to him if you're looking for more than a prescription. I have never gotten to actually talk to him for more than maybe 10 minutes because the office is always so busy and over booked. The wait is horrendous. I have never been seen less than 2 hours after my scheduled appointment time. The other people in the waiting room refuse to use the silent feature on their phones and listen to music very loudly without headphones. On top of that, the music playing in the office is all bad jazz renditions of popular songs. The receptionists make you feel as if youre bothering them, I understand, because theyre probably very over worked and have to deal with people who have been waiting for hours. The over all experience isn't worth it. Find another doctor.
Well, the other reviews don't lie. I waited two hours past my appointment time, which is no picnic. He was pretty good. Served his purpose. I got a Rx that I do feel is appropriate given our conversation. I have a follow-up appt in two weeks... and the wait continues.
Great after-hours doc. Understanding and compassionate. but the wait is a killer.
Dr Ashraf was great, the wait time was a bit long but not so bad and he made up for it BUT THE SUPPORT STAFF IS DANGEROUSLY TERRIBLE. My insurance required authorization and I called the office, they said they would fix it and nothing. Then I'm off my meds and I call back asking if they can call my pharmacy to give me meds for a few days until my next appointment. They put me on hold for 28 mins and hung up on me!!! Then I call back and no one answers. Dr. Ash is great, but being reliable for your medication is a necessity. I'm strongly reconsidering going back after I speak to him in this appointment.
felt rushed, didn't feel comfortable and didnt feel there was a path to progress.
The only issue that i had was with the wait time. My appt was at 3:15 and i didnt get into see the dr until 5:15.
I can't say because I never got in to see him. I arrived at the office at 8:00pm for my 8:15 appointment. He arrived at 8:15. I was in the waiting room of his "office" packed full of other disgruntled patients and an unattended screaming child for nearly an hour until I was forced to leave (at 9:10) without having gotten to see the doctor. He may be a great doctor, but I am in no position to say so.
i read the reviews and was prepared for a wait but two hours is not reasonable to me. that being said, he was a great doctor who actually listened and spent time with me even though they were clearly backed up. the office is very nice and the staff is kind so i'm going back to give it another try. i would have given a highly recommended rating if it wasn't for the outrageous wait time.
excellent as always
He was a very sweet physician and a good pharmacologist. I will return for medication management but may not for long. As a professional, I am not in a position where I can wait until 8:15 to see a doctor who scheduled me for 5:45.
Th doctors office was very nice, relaxing and the staff was very pleasant. The wait was long but worth it. Dr. Shafei was very knowledgable and understanding.
Amazing guy! I love him! He is the nicest guy in the world and listens to all your problem and the medication you like without his personal judgment on them. You will not leave disappointed. I have tried to find a good shrink for 7 years now. I got one!
A professional, knowledgeable doctor. He listens and gives excellent opinions and treatment procedures. But expect to wait 1-2 hours at the least before you see him, even if you have the first appointment.
The visit with the doctor itself was pleasant. However, the waiting area was packed, kids were running around, and the wait was very long and there weren't enough places to sit due to the number of people.
great as always. not your typical psychiatrist. lovely office and staff. very skilled and knowledgeable, and listens!
The Dr. is nice enough, but I have waited over 2.5 hours for a scheduled appointment.
Very comforting doctor. Listened carefully and interacted warmly.
great doctor take his time with the patient and carefull w ur diacnose to make sure his treat ment works for the best.
He was very nice and really seemed to care. That is a rarity these days. I was early when I got there, and he made sure I got in there earlier than my appointment. A very nice person, and a professional.
The office atmosphere was great, everyone from the assistants to the Doctors were very professional.
can take a while, but he is a good Doctor.
Very nice guy, and very easy to talk to!
Brooklyn location has the nicest lobby and office I've ever seen. Dr. El-Shafei also appears caring and attentive, and he created a reasonable action plan. I will continue to see him.
My visit was awesome. I went down stairs and it was amazing. The office is outsiding. Its color coordinate and the furinture is lovely. Did i mention his painting r wonderful. Speaking of wonderful the doctor is amazing and his staff r one of a kind. I felt like it is a happy enivorment. Get this they have zerona.
My visits to Dr. Ashraf El-shafei are always perfect and amazing. I look forward for my appointment I am always happy to see the staff, Lisa, is always happy, Michelle is energic Ahmed is on point. I love to go to Dr. Elshafei office the staff are wonderful, and the doctor need i say more if the staff is wonderful the doctor is one of a kind. He listens to you when you are speaking he ask questions, he is alert and i love his ties. The place is always clean and there is no waiting time. In and out with a smile from everyone. Thank you Dr. Elshafei
Office staff made me feel comfortable as soon as I arrived and also Dr El-Shafei was very professional and I look forward to my next appointment with him.
DR.ASHRAF IS ONE OF THE BEST DOCTOR I HAVE SEEN.HE REALLY LISTEN TO THE PATIENTS,HE TAKES TIME NOT LIKE OTHER DOCTOR WHO RUSH AND DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THIER PROBLEM IS. I WOULD RECOMENT DR.ASHRAF TO EVERY ONE WHO NEEDS TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST.I FEEL GREAT.I REALLY THANK DR.ASHRAF FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
Very friendly and personable, but I had to wait for over 30 minutes in the waiting room, which smelled like cigarettes.
Dr, Ashraf EL-Shafe md, is by far one of the best doctors ive come incounter with, he is well educated best procedures possible w patiants, w me he listens to my issues well , and he takes care of the problem or solves it.
he's a great
Dr. Ashraf El-Shafei is very kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. However, the wait time was close to an hour and a half for this visit and the waiting room feels cold, dark, and unfriendly. His reception staff is young and they come across as immature and unprofessional. When I inquired about my wait time after a half hour, the young woman at reception barely glanced at me and said she "didn't know" and that she "thought I was next." I waited another 45 minutes after that. The only reason I'd go back is that the doctor is good, and he has assured me they are working to improve the situation.
Other than the really long wait to see Dr. El-Shafei, the staff was friendly and he also really listened to me and I believe the treatment he prescribed will work for me.
My visit with Dr. El-Shafei was wonderful. I never been to an office where the doctor and his staff are great. The staff is a beautiful bunch they get along well and help one and other. The doctor actually listens and has given me execellent advice. The best part one of the staff memeber called me a day before to remind of my appointment. There was no wait time. Trust me I was called on time which i love because my plans was not ruin for later on that day. The office is designed to make the patient feel relax and at ease so when you are called in you are calm when speaking to the doctor. There is no distraction is just you and the doctor which makes this office special. Thank you Dr. El-shafei and staff.
Real friendly and helpful!!
Great overall experience!
im very happy with this choice. very knowledgeable, listens, answers questions, good guy.
Doctor with good listening skills.Intutive not only to the patient but to the family as a whole. A doctor with knowledge and wit who makes his patients feel at ease to discuss any of their problems.
I think it would have been a really great experience if it hadn't been for the wait time in the office. It was very crowded, loud and uncomfortable.
Very Intutive regarding patient and empathetic toward family.
very easy to talk to, kind, listens
My visit was a very good experience. The office is wonderful. The staff is great. Especially Imene, She has everything under control, and there is no wait. The doctor is calm caring and he actually listens to me. Not many doctors listen but he did, and didnt rush me he took his time and made sure that I was okay and understood everything before i left the room. I walk out of the office happy and confident that Dr.Elshaefi is the doctor i chose and will recommend to everyone. Dr. Ashraf has a wonderful happy staff.
Dr. El-Shafei was very professional and down to earth at the same time. I would highly recommend him. The only suggestion I might have is that the sitting area in the Astoria office needs a makeover.
He is THE ONLY therapist I've ever connected with. He not only listens but is caring and has a knowledgeable prescience.
My daughter went to visit Dr. ElShafei for her first visit on 12/11/10. The office atmosphere was very calming and pleasant. The office staff was very helpful and pleasant. My daughter who has had trouble connecting with other therapists found Dr. ElShafei helpful and caring. He is very attentive and has a good rapport with patients. He was a good listener and gave positive feedback. He demonstrates a genuine concern for his work and patients. I'm glad my daughter found someone to work her problems through with that she feels she can trust. Ms. DeCallies
I was speechless about this office.... I have never seen an office as beautiful as Dr.Elshafeis..... The office is very soothing and relaxing. The staff were friendly and welcoming they were very helpful and made me feel welcomed...Dr.Elshafei was knowledgeable about my condition and had a great explanation as to what I should do. I am more then happy with my visit to the office!
My thoughts of my visit at Dr. El-shafei was great. The office has a calming astomspere. The music he chose is wonderful. The staff is caring and kind. Dr. El-shafei is the best. I have seen many doctors. He was the only one that actually found out what I had and started my therapy. In all, I am pleased with my decision.
Took the time to listen. Great experience all around. Waited for a bit, but to be expected if you want a doctor who will take the same time with you as the rest of his patients.
Dr was very easy to talk to and made me comfortable in talking about my issues. Very thorough in explaining things + answering my questions/concerns.
He was extremely kind and understanding. He is now my go-to guy for psychiatry!
The doctor was kind and knowledgeable; the office and staff seemed strange.
office staff not helpful over phone but doctor is wonderful
sorry another time
More than happy I chose him. A good doctor and nice person.
