Dr. Ashina specializes in the treatment of headache conditions, including chronic and intractable migraine. His headache treatment approach combines drug therapy, interventional treatments such as nerve blocks, Botulinum toxin injections, trigger point injections, and inpatient and outpatient infusion therapy.
Dr. Sait Ashina is an Attending physician and Neurologist in the Pain Division of the Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center. He is a Headache Specialist and a Director of the Headache Program, which is a joint activity of Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care, and the Department of Neurology. Dr. Ashina earned his medical degree at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He completed medical internship at the Hospital of Saint Raphael affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT. He did his residency in neurology at the Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. He received training in Headache medicine at the Montefiore Headache Center in Bronx, NY and the Danish Headache Center, Copenhagen, Denmark. He is a member of membership committee of International Headache Society. Dr. Ashina also serves as a member of the International Headache Society headache classification subcommittee on Tension-Type Headache for the 3rd edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-3). He is also an Associate editor of Neurology Reviews, and member of Advisory Board of the Journal of Headache and Pain. He has won several awards for his work, including the Clinical Headache Fellowship Award from the American Headache Society. His research interest includes epidemiology of headache and chronic pain, quantitative sensory testing and human pain models.

I am very grateful to ZocDoc for helping me find Dr. Ashina. First I would just like to say I was seen almost within 5-10 minutes of handing in my paper work, it was really nice to be able to make an appointment (especially with a specialist) and be seen immediately. Next I would like to say Dr. Ashina is an amazing doctor. He was extremely thorough when talking to me and really took his time to understand my point of view and listen to my opinions / concerns. This is an important part of any consultation for me because managing a patients anxiety is just as important as managing the issue they came in for. Next, I would like to say Dr. Ashina is extremely intelligent. We discussed my symptoms and what they could me in full. He was thorough and explained to me what is possibly going on and what our next step should be. He also told me he will take the time to contact me should he see anything abnormal in my tests before my next visit. It's very reassuring to deal with a committed and intelligent doctor.
