“Adam did a great job during our first session I feel we covered a lot of ground and I love how he focused on setting goals for what we’re looking to get out of therapy. On top of that, I was able to fill out all paperwork online beforehand and even submit my copay digitally before the appointment. The office is clean with beautiful daylight plus coffee and tea is provided. Adam is a caring and knowledgeable practitioner. We’re really looking forward to working with him further!”

Getting to know Adam Kessler

*Note that prior to the first session with the provider, LifeStance requires a credit card on file. *LifeStance providers do not accept Medicare or Medicaid insurance. If booking with these, you will be unable to be seen. I personally know how much stress can come from seeking counseling, so I will ensure to create a safe and holding environment that allows you to feel as stress-free as possible. I have experience working with couples, PTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, and the LGBTQIA+ community. I am currently accepting requests for therapy in person and via secure video sessions. I utilize psychodynamic skills, narrative, CBT, solution-focused, multicultural, and client-centered techniques to help you overcome the challenges you bring to therapy and to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible sharing them. I like to think about therapy like a road trip: you are the driver and have a place in mind where you want to go. I am in your passenger seat with navigation open, helping you get there as best I can. But if you aren't comfortable taking a turn somewhere, let me know, and I will work with you to find a different direction that works best for your needs. I was born and raised in the Chicago-land area and received my Bachelor's in Psychology at Loyola University Chicago and my Master's in Counseling at Northwestern University. I love exploring the city, enjoy watching football (Go Pack Go!), and playing video games in my free time.

Adam is a very down to earth counselor who had very similar interests that aligned with mine. Very easy to talk to and was always excited to speak with me.
I was struggling with the fear of swallowing for months. Adam Kessler helped me regain my ability to swallow through exposure therapy. Every time I would visit he was on time and welcoming. I highly recommend Adam to anyone dealing with anxiety/panic attacks.
I couldn’t have asked for a kinder, more empathetic therapist. Adam has helped me work through family issues, work issues, and other personal issues. What I appreciate most about him is that he is very communicative and actually cares about me and my issues. He offers insight and wisdom I don’t believe I could find with anyone else. Highly recommend him if you’re looking for a caring therapist!
Adam Kessler has been a fantastic counselor. He is easy to talk to, provides great tools, and is very good at helping to guide conversation topics when needed.
Interrupted me while I was speaking and wouldn’t hear out my full story . It seemed like he was just studying me like a subject as he would just be typing while I’m conversing with him. Completely ignored the way I was feeling and just conducted a series of questions that he had instead of hearing me out on what I was going through.

I want to emphasize: I had a decent experience with Adam in our session, but ultimately did not decide to do therapy with him long-term, and I had an extremely negative experience in the transition. Once I found a different provider, I attempted to cancel an appointment and gave a day (plus a few hours) of notice. Once they discovered I was cancelling due to switching providers, the admin charged a large cancellation fee. I would have cancelled sooner online, but the portal (and setting up an account on the portal his office uses) is difficult to access. I got many emails and texts with "CONFIRM APPOINTMENT" options, but no way to easily select "cancel" without creating an account. I am busy, and I am seeking therapy over anxiety, so sometimes small tasks like finally making a phone call can be daunting (which is why I am seeking help in the first place). It is my fear of administrative burdens like this that made me hesitant to seek help in the first place.
