I have been a practicing therapist for over forty years, holding a Bachelor of Science and a Master's in Counseling from Rollins College, and a Doctor of Education with a specialty in Early and Middle Childhood Development from Nova Southeastern University. Initially, my practice focused on children, adolescents, and families, particularly in the areas of sexual abuse, eating disorders, and ADHD. Over the years, I have transitioned to serving adults and families, specializing in depression, anxiety, marital issues, and mood disorders.
I work hard to create a supportive, nurturing, and safe environment that is goal-directed and interactive between both therapist and patient. This may also include an interdisciplinary team approach with other medical and mental health providers.
I always gently encourage patients to move forward to meet their stated goals, using support and empathy-never blame. I strive to give my patients tools to live well in the present and hope for learning to live a happy future.
My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I particularly focus on what I describe as my patients' “self-bullying.” By that, I mean their own internal negative self-talk, which directly influences their feelings and behavioral choices.
Often, my patients comment and compliment me on my obvious care and concern for each of them personally, as well as my quick responsiveness when needed.
