Getting to know Vivian Obi

I consider myself very blessed to have been exposed to medicine at a very early age, surrounded by parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts who were all doctors, nurses, nurse midwives and nurse practitioners. Growing up in my parent’s private hospital in Nigeria, I witnessed first-hand what it meant to provide quality healthcare to the community irrespective of their ability to pay for their services. Propelled by my strong desire to become a nurse practitioner and utilize advanced clinical practice in nursing care, I dedicated 8 years post- graduation from high school to obtain my first degree in biology from SUNY Stony brook, continue to achieve my 2nd bachelor’s degree in nursing from SUNY Brockport and advance further, graduating with my masters and family nurse practitioner degree from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. I have been blessed to work as a family nurse practitioner for almost 20 years and have provided medical care across the age spectrum from pediatrics to geriatrics and in various healthcare settings ranging from private practice, to the home setting and out-patient healthcare facilities. I have extensive expertise in women’s health and experience in pediatrics, urgent care and primary care. This new professional chapter has provided me with the opportunity to incorporate my dual certification as a family nurse practitioner and psychiatric nurse practitioner to provide healthcare with a more comprehensive approach. I look forward to working with you and creating a therapeutic relationship in which evidenced based practice and a holistic approach will be utilized in your care. With your collaboration, we can work towards helping you achieve optimal wellness.
