Richard N. Righthand, MD is a primary care physician who is board- certified in Internal Medicine and has been an attending at Holy Name Medical Center since 1988.
Dr. Righthand graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester in 1979 before earning his medical degree from the Albany Medical College in 1985. He completed the Internal Medicine residency program from the Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx before joining his uncle, Dr. Thomas DeCecio in his practice in Cliffside Park where he served the Holy Name Community for 50 years.
Dr. Righthand’s interests and expertise includes diagnostic medicine, neuroscience, cardiac and pulmonary diseases, rheumatoid and endocrine disorders, women’s health, medical informatics, psychology, and geriatrics. He is described by his colleagues and patients as extremely patient and compassionate, with an attention to detail. He is a staunch defender of the individual patient’s rights to care, despite the current economic pressures brought on by the insurance industry and government.
As a solo practitioner in private practice, Dr. Righthand has always maintained strong ties with medical education. He can always be seen accompanied by young physicians in training from the Rutgers School of Medicine and the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine where he has mentored a generation of new physicians as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine for over 20 years.
Growing up, as a child, Dr. Righthand would often accompany his father, Dr. Norman Righthand, to the hospital and making house calls to his patients. This tradition of personal attention, community service, professionalism, and dedication continues today with his association as a member of the Holy Name Physician’s Network.

Dr. Righthand was the first physician my wife and I saw since we moved to this area recently. He is clearly experienced, knowledgeable and thorough.
We felt comfortable with his decisions and happy about the visit. However, ninety minutes passed quickly and there are a couple of things we have to pick up in the next visit.

Dr. Righthand asked plenty of questions and did a thorough examination, each time explaining why he was checking a particular area. The visit was not rushed at all. Before prescribing a medication, he explained why and detailed possible side effects. He and his office staff all are friendly and efficient.

Dr. Righthand is the best internist! I often thinks primary care or family doctors are useless because they just collect information based on the preset questionaries within 10 mins and start referral me to the specialist. But Dr.Righthand changed my mind. He is great listener and he truly takes time to understand my concern. He asks questions based on the info that I share with him. He doesn't rush for appointment. Dr.Righthand want to make sure he expain all the details and share the reason on why he ask certain questions. His ofifice staff is also super friendly. I don't usually like to write review, but Dr.Righthand is the truly the best. He makes me feel so comfortable to discuss my medicial concern.

I honestly cannot express how great my experience with Dr. Righthand and his office staff was. I was a little hesitant upon entering, as the office was very antiquated. But don’t judge a book by its cover! Every single positive review on Zocdoc is completely accurate. The staff were so kind, personable, communicative, and accommodating. It probably took no more than 15 minutes to go from the waiting room to the exam room and being seen by the doctor. Dr. Righthand is AMAZING. For the first time ever, I felt HEARD by a doctor! Not only is his bedside manner phenomenal, but he’s super knowledgeable and explains every exam finding in detail—he takes your complaints seriously and will guide you the right way. He even pointed out things that I thought were normal, but are not. He probably spent around 20+ minutes with me between our time in the exam room and our conversation in his office afterwards, which is unheard of nowadays. I am really looking forward to my follow-up visit because I trust the doctor and his staff! Highly recommend booking a visit!

Dr. Righthand was very a caring doctor. It was my first time, and after 15mins of chatting, he was able to diagnose many of the issues I've been dealing with for the past 15 years. It was truly refreshing to find a doctor who actually wants to help and not prescribe pills. Great doctor so far!

A doctor with a lot of experience. this is what doctors are supposed to be! caring, a good listener, review your full medical history and give you instructions on what to do next. this is a no frills office, its a DOCTOR's office, where the patient and doctor are the main focus, not computer techicians entering your data for 15 mins and buzzing around with fancy gadgets. If you just want to be taken care of by the Doctor and you don't care that the furnishings are 100 years old, then go here. you will be seen in minutes and the doctor will take care of you directly. The Doctor has a good heart and a soothing demeanor, a combination of Mister Rogers and Colonel Sanders
