In the search results page, you can further filter results by preferred time of day for the appointment, specialty, gender, the type of visit (in-person or video), and more.
I'm not sure how to best describe my reason for visit (i.e. condition, procedure, symptom). What should I do?
It’s okay if you don’t know the exact right medical terminology. Just type in the words that best match your reason for needing a doctor. If you want to tell your doctor more, you can leave a personal note for him or her right before you finish booking.
You can also use our guided search experience to help you more accurately describe your care needs. Guided search is activated when you search for a specialist or general consultation, and presents optional questions to refine your search. By specifying a reason for visit, like a symptom or procedure, you can ensure you only see doctors who can address your needs in the search results. How does Zocdoc determine the order of the providers that I see in search results?
The more criteria you search by, the more accurately we are able to provide you with providers who fit the bill. You can find a doctor who can treat your care needs by providing these details:
Visit Reason: Doctors appear based on their ability to address your specific care needs. (For example, a search for "heartburn" shows doctors qualified to treat that condition.)
Insurance Network: Doctors that accept your insurance plan will be shown earlier in search results and clearly labeled as “in-network providers.”
Location: Patients can use a map to adjust results based on their preferred location. We take into account the proximity of both patient and doctor locations.
Appointment Availability: We prioritize doctors with availability, recognizing that patients prefer timely appointments.
The higher a provider appears in the search results, the more closely they align with your search criteria.
Please note that participating doctors who pay for our advertising product are always listed at the top of relevant search results. These advertisements are clearly marked as ”Sponsored,” and patients will be able to easily recognize these are advertisements.
