About Dr. Julian J. Sonnenfeld
Julian J. Sonnenfeld, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon specializing in arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and elbow in adult and pediatric patients. Dr. Sonnenfeld is a former athlete who competed at the national level in baseball. He graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center, where he was awarded the Ira Wolfe Award for Excellence in Sports Medicine Research. Following residency, Dr. Sonnenfeld completed a fellowship in sports medicine, shoulder and elbow surgery at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, NC. While there, he served as a team physician for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, MiLB Charlotte Knights and Davidson College.
Dr. Sonnenfeld continues to be active in academic research having published over 40 articles, book chapters and exhibits on a variety of topics related to ACL reconstruction, Tommy John surgery, hip arthroscopy and shoulder arthroplasty. In his free time, Dr. Sonnenfeld enjoys hiking, golfing, fishing and spending time with his wife and son.

Dr. Sonnenfeld has treated me several times (right knee surgery, shoulder, left knee) and I trust him completely. He repaired my right knee torn miniscus root repair flawlessly and has provided relief to my shoulder and left knee without surgery. He has an outstanding bedside manner and does not "push" surgery if relief can be obtained without it. He also now treats my wife and mother-in-law, both of whom also trust Dr. Sonnefeld completely.
