Henry Ibitokun, PMHNP

Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
NJ
Hello, I’m Henry Ibitokun, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over a decade of experience providing care across both medical and mental health settings. I work with adolescents, adults, and seniors facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, mood disorders, and stress-related conditions. I completed my psychiatric training at Wilkes University and also hold certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, which allows me to approach mental health through a broader clinical lens. My background includes experience in urgent care, psychiatry, and integrated medical environments, giving me a deeper understanding of how physical health, lifestyle, and emotional well-being are closely connected. What defines my approach is a commitment to whole-person, practical care. I do not just focus on diagnosing and treating symptoms. I take time to understand how your mental health is affecting your daily life, your energy, your relationships, and your ability to function. I am especially passionate about supporting individuals from minority and underserved communities who may not always feel fully seen or understood in traditional healthcare settings. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, clear, and in control. I focus on creating care that is not only clinically effective, but also realistic and applicable to your everyday life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting mental health care can feel overwhelming, especially if you have had frustrating or unclear experiences in the past. When we work together, you can expect a calm, respectful, and straightforward approach. I take time to listen carefully and understand what is actually going on in your life, not just your symptoms. You will have space to speak openly without feeling rushed or judged. I also make sure to explain things clearly, whether we are discussing a diagnosis, medication, or next steps, so you always know what is happening and why. I see this as a partnership. You bring your experiences and goals, and I bring clinical guidance and structure. Together, we create a plan that feels manageable and aligned with what you want for your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin with a comprehensive initial evaluation that is both thorough and conversational. I will ask about your current symptoms, mental health history, medical background, sleep, stress, lifestyle, and any past treatments. Just as importantly, I want to understand how your symptoms are affecting your day-to-day life and what you would like to see change. After that, we build a personalized treatment plan together. My approach is structured but flexible, and may include medication management, supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and practical strategies you can use outside of sessions. I take a thoughtful and balanced approach to medication, using it when appropriate while carefully considering your preferences, goals, and potential side effects. Follow-up sessions are focused on progress, clarity, and adjustment. We review what is working, what is not, and make changes as needed. I also focus on helping you build insight and develop tools that support long-term stability, not just short-term relief. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling heard, informed, and confident about your next steps, with a clear path toward improving your mental health and overall quality of life.

At what point does 33+ years of experiencing this horrible disease and not be listened to on what worked in the past and what makes it worse and adds more problems. This Dr.is not alone unfortunately.Seems to be a ongoing issue with this profession,I understand why.Patients who abuse and trade or sell the medication in question.Just I believe Drs have the ability to see what patients have been,”Dr.Shopping”& on to high of a dose etc.I believe the trust has to be a top priority, not just pushing medication that is the status quo.
