How to succeed on Zocdoc

Follow these five best practices for success on Zocdoc

Updated over a year ago

Zocdoc connects patients and providers in a simple, pain-free way, enabling patients to find and book the right care, and providers to grow their practice.

Following these five simple best practices will help you make the most of your presence on Zocdoc, so you can attract the right patients, build trust, and ultimately get more bookings.

Keep your insurance and visit reasons updated

Patients rely on Zocdoc to find providers who accept their insurance and treat their specific healthcare needs. Keeping your insurance and visit reason settings up to date ensures the right patients find you—helping you avoid scheduling mismatches and unnecessary booking fees.

✅ Best practice: Make sure your provider profiles accurately reflect accepted insurance plans and treated conditions (which are called “visit reasons” in your settings). Inaccurate information can lead to mistaken bookings and unnecessary fees.

Whenever there are changes to your services or your practice adds new providers, it’s crucial you review and update your insurance and visit reason settings to prevent booking errors.

Show accurate appointment availability

Patients on Zocdoc prefer to be seen quickly and they want to book with confidence—if they see an open slot, they expect it to be real. An up-to-date calendar with plenty of near-term availability drives more bookings and builds patient trust.

✅ Best practice: Use Zocdoc’s free Calendar Integration to automatically pull real-time availability directly from your scheduling software. This keeps your calendar accurate and ensures patients book appointments that are truly available.

Get reviews

Reviews give patients confidence in their choice and help you stand out. We recommend having at least 10 reviews to start. Without some reviews, you’re less likely to get the amount of bookings you’re looking for.

✅ Best practice: The more recent reviews, the better, but if you're new to Zocdoc, start by requesting reviews from existing patients. Zocdoc’s tools make it easy to request reviews, so your profile is more robust and likely to attract new patients. We automatically request reviews from patients who book with you through Zocdoc.

Review bookings and reach out if needed

When patients book, they provide essential information like insurance, legal name, date of birth, and contact information. Reviewing this information right away helps ensure a smooth experience.

✅ Best practice: Log into Zocdoc regularly to review new bookings as soon as you receive them, or review them in your EHR if you're using a Calendar Integration. Be sure to review all the information the patient has submitted—no one likes filling out forms twice. If any details seem missing, prompt outreach reduces cancellations and sets clear expectations for patients.

Make it easy for patients to book

Patients want convenience when booking appointments. Zocdoc’s online scheduling tools help your practice capture more bookings—anytime, anywhere.

✅ Best practice: In addition to listing your practice on the Zocdoc Marketplace, add Zocdoc’s booking buttons to your website and Google Business Profile to make it even easier for patients to book directly from the top places they search for care. These scheduling tools are free to install and all appointments booked through these tools are free.
