Getting to know Samuel Fogarty

Sam (he/they) centers his work on radical acceptance; he creates an affirming and engaging therapeutic experience for every unique individual. By exploring emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and energy—both past and present—he works together with his clients to build an authentic life of meaning and purpose. He works with clients on how social norms have squeezed them to conform to narrow ideals, or how they have outgrown their previous selves. Sam believes that every human holds the innate capacity to heal, especially queer individuals whose lives are rooted in resilience. Through therapy, he highlights the potential of empowerment and strength in overcoming trauma and everyday challenges alike. He brings his research experience in body image and eating disorders among queer populations to frame his clinical work. His style can be described as active, warm, encouraging, and fun. While he incorporates elements of cognitive-behavioral, narrative, psychodynamic, and client-centered modalities, meeting with him will feel like a conversation with a warm, supportive friend. By working together, Sam hopes the client will find therapy to be a healing space towards living a full, intentional, and purposeful life.

He is very empathetic and kind and energetic, and he is able to encourage people to participate in the group discussions
Sam is a warm, supportive supervisor with excellent clinical insight. He excels at making supervision collaborative.
Sam is extremely thoughtful and professional. I really enjoyed working with him over the last year.
Sam is an incredible therapist. He is so patient, intelligent, and curious. Working with him has changed my life for the better!
Sam is truly a stellar and skilled therapist. They knew when to gently challenge and when to affirm. They also held space for all of the feelings- not just sad or heavy ones. I will sincerely miss working with Sam.
Group therapy with Sam has been amazing for me! I’ve only decided to leave the group as my identity no longer aligned with that of the group, but it was a valuable experience for me that I am so thankful for nonetheless.
Sam is a great therapist. I appreciated the structure he brought to the group and his careful guidance during sessions. He was attentive to everyone in the group, responded to and managed the energy in the room, asked insightful questions and gave generative prompts, and shared helpful insights from psychology / counselling / theory. My therapy only really started to progress noticeably after he took over the group, so I'd recommend him very highly. Big fan.
I feel like Sam was really personable as a therapist and made me comfortable. He was an effective communicator and tried his best to be understanding when we didn't see eye to eye.
Sam is a very thoughtful and educated therapists. During our 16 week long sessions he was extremely helpful. I started with some life changing conflicts and during our sessions I was able to understand more technically what I was going through, and we took steps to improve my future when faced with similar issues. I had many breakthroughs and feel like my goals were met, but even better the stress from my past challenges was dealt with in a very understanding way. This happened at a point in my life when I really needed help, and I feel so much better.
I can't speak highly enough of Sam, and I worry I won't find a therapist as connecting as they were for me! Their compassion and empathy for others is so apparent in their work, and unlike anything I had received from the handful of therapists I'd had before. I can say without a doubt my life is truly so much better thanks to their care throughout our work together.
We worked with Sam on and off for 2+ years [initial: 6 months, break for 3 months, and then continuous until now]. We think the world of him and his skills as a therapist. His unique approach made us re-think the hetero-normative life expectations for our family and future in order to build the life that we wanted, not the life that was expected of us. Sam helped us get through the toughest time in our marriage, provided coping mechanisms for challenges and improved our communication immensely. Without his help and guidance, we wouldn't be where we are today, which is less than 2 weeks away from welcoming our first child!
I had the privilege of working with Sam in his gay men’s group, and it was a truly meaningful and transformative experience. From the very first session, Sam created a space that felt safe, inclusive, and supportive. He has an incredible ability to ask thoughtful questions that invite reflection and real growth, while also encouraging everyone to participate in a way that feels natural and respected. Sam’s warmth, empathy, and insight made me feel seen and valued. He has a great balance of compassion and professionalism, and his guidance helped me connect more deeply with myself and with others in the group. I’m really grateful for the experience and would highly recommend Sam to anyone seeking a therapist who fosters genuine connection and growth in a safe, affirming environment.
I am utterly grateful to Sam. In many ways he saved me. Before Sam, I was barely able to move through life. Now I have a totally new perspective on life. I feel 1000% better. I do not know what magic he performed but I am very happy about it. He's a young therapy star. Thanks Sam!
I began group therapy for 2 specific reasons - to heal from a potential divorce and to better understand how I was communicating. Over the year that I was with Sam and my group, I became a much better communicator and began to heal my relationship. My group was incredible - very diverse and supportive. This allowed me to open up more and lean in to the process. I valued each session and took with me homework that challenged me until the next session. Although my departure was signaled by my work travel schedule, I felt the time was right as I had grown extensively. I noticed it, my husband noticed, and my group noticed, so I’m proud of the work I’ve done and what was accomplished. Sam is great in his role and provided a push when needed, but was overall very supportive and anchoring.
Very helpful. Was nice to have a therapist that I could identify with and felt comfortable sharing personal details and emotions. Sam often challenged my thinking patterns which was sometimes difficult but necessary. I was glad that they let me choose which direction to take the session as it helped me work through the most pressing issues. The flexibility in terms of doing therapy in person or remote was very helpful.
I think he did a very good job and was dedicated to growing as a therapist and became more comfortable pushing the group while also ensuring everyone felt safe.
I have seen a few therapists over the past few years. I believe the individual connection between Sam and I was the strongest. He had a great ability to meet me where I needed in order to feel understood and comprehended what I was communicating in the ways in which I intended.
Really enjoyed my time with Sam. Took me a little while to start therapy and meet a therapist but Sam exceeded my expectations.
I’ve been very satisfied with my therapist’s work facilitating the gay men’s group. Sam's strong engagement skills have created a safe, inclusive, and respectful space where group members feel comfortable sharing openly. Sam consistently demonstrates genuine empathy, cultural competence, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges gay men often face from identity development and coming out, to relationships, isolation, and community dynamics. What stands out most is Sam's ability to balance structure with flexibility. Sessions are thoughtfully guided yet allow for organic discussion, which helps foster deeper connection among members. Sam is skilled at navigating complex emotions and group dynamics, always ensuring that everyone feels heard and validated. Sam also brings clinical expertise to the group by offering insight when appropriate and encouraging personal growth without being prescriptive. Their calm presence, active listening, and ability to challenge in a supportive way have contributed to a meaningful group experience. Overall, I feel Sam's combination of professional skill and human warmth has made the group not just a support system, but a catalyst for growth and healing. I’m grateful for Sam's leadership and would highly recommend their facilitation in similar settings.
Sam is an astute and warm clinician.
