Getting to know Cara Camacho

Hello there, I am looking forward to working with you. I believe that strong therapeutic relationships are rooted in acceptance and compassion. Through genuine curiosity, emotional awareness, and a collaborative approach, I will help you find solutions that align with your truest values and desires. I teach my clients practical skills they can use right away and often supplement in-session work with readings, handouts, and books. I work with ages 17 to 65 and treat ADHD, personal growth, anxiety, maladaptive coping skills, depression, life transitions, peer relationships, relationship issues, school issues, self-esteem issues, stress, divorce, dual diagnoses, women’s issues, and mood disorders. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy-informed approaches, person-centered therapy, humanistic therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and strengths-based techniques. I have a multicultural, trauma-informed perspective. I hold a Master’s degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s degree from Hunter College, both part of the City University of New York system. If this sounds like something you are looking for, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a clinician, I prioritize warmth and acceptance as necessary components for growing our therapeutic relationship and deepening our work together combined with tangible skills and strategies that you can begin implementing right away. I often supplement our work with readings, handouts, and books that may enrich what we are working on in sessions and help you strengthen new skills more quickly.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Oftentimes, clients come into therapy wanting to work on a variety of issues which become clearer to them as they continue to engage in treatment. Genuine curiosity, emotional attunement, and a collaborative therapeutic relationship will allow us to work together to find solutions that align with your goals and values.
