What is the In-Network Promise?

Zocdoc’s In-Network Promise gives you peace of mind when booking in-network care.

Finding in-network care should feel simple. With Zocdoc’s In-Network Promise, you can book without the guesswork. Share some basic information, and we’ll verify your coverage with your insurance carrier. Then see providers who accept your confirmed plan and book in-network with confidence. As always, Zocdoc is free for patients, including the In-Network Promise.

If you receive an eligible out-of-network bill after your appointment, you won’t face it alone. We’ll work with the practice to resolve it—or provide up to $1,000 if we can’t.

This article provides an overview of the In-Network Promise. For more information, please review details about the In-Network Promise Program.

How the In-Network Promise works

  1. Verify your insurance. Share some basic information, like your name, date of birth, and, for some plans, your member ID. We’ll verify your coverage with your insurance carrier so you can feel confident you’re searching with the right plan.

  2. Book in-network and attend your appointment. See providers who accept your confirmed plan, then book and complete your visit. Zocdoc considers this a Verified In-Network Appointment.

  3. If you receive an out-of-network bill, submit it to Zocdoc. We’ll review the bill and work with the practice to try to resolve it. If we can’t, we’ll provide up to $1,000.

Which appointments are eligible for the In-Network Promise?

The In-Network Promise is currently available for select medical insurance carriers and plans. If it’s available for your plan, we’ll let you know when you verify your insurance. From there, you can book with an in-network provider, which Zocdoc considers a Verified In-Network Appointment.

How do I report an out-of-network bill?

Report the issue through your Zocdoc account within 6 months of your appointment and 60 days of first receiving the bill. Choose “I received an unexpected bill” or “The provider was incorrectly listed as in-network” when submitting the issue. You can also contact our support team if you need help.

Once you submit your report, we’ll review it and guide you through what happens next. We may ask for a few details about your appointment and bill.

Frequently asked questions

Does the In-Network Promise cost anything?

No. The In-Network Promise is one of the free perks of booking in-network care on Zocdoc. If you have an eligible insurance carrier and plan, you will automatically see the In-Network Promise when verifying your insurance on Zocdoc.

What does it mean to verify my insurance?

You provide basic information about your insurance, such as your name, date of birth, and, for some plans, your member ID. Zocdoc uses that information to check your coverage and confirm the plan you’re using to search for care.

Does verifying my insurance mean my care is free?

No. Verification helps ensure you see search results with providers who accept your plan. Your insurance carrier and plan type determines whether you have a copay, coinsurance, deductible, or other costs or requirements to satisfy before certain appointment types are eligible for coverage.

How do I know if the In-Network Promise applies to my appointment?

If the In-Network Promise applies to your appointment, you’ll see a grey box that says “In-Network Promise” in the email you receive after booking. This is considered a Verified In-Network Appointment.

Does In-Network Promise apply to dental or vision insurance?

No, the In-Network Promise is currently available only for eligible medical insurance plans.

How many out-of-network bills can I submit?

You can submit up to two eligible out-of-network bills per year.

What if I got an out-of-network bill, but I didn’t verify my insurance?

We still want to help. Report the issue through your Zocdoc account and we’ll follow up with next steps. While this won’t involve potential payments associated with the In-Network Promise, we can still work to help resolve the issue with the practice.

See the In-Network Promise Program details for more information about how the program works.
