America’s most health conscious cities among 2012 appointment trends from ZocDoc

NEW YORK – December 3, 2012 — With 2012 coming to a close and a healthy 2013 being top of mind, ZocDoc revealed their first annual list of the most health-conscious cities across the country, based on preventive appointments booked by residents in 2012 via ZocDoc.

Austin topped the list for most health conscious cities, and cities starting with a ‘P’ were also on top of their health. Portland ranked #1 for the most skin conscious city, with more dermatology bookings than any other market, and also booked the most acute (non-preventative) appointments. Philadelphia focused on oral health, booking the largest percentage of dentist appointments and Phoenix topped the list for most primary care appointments booked.

It may come as no surprise that the fast-paced cities of New York City and Los Angeles topped the lists for most appointments booked via the ZocDoc app and most same day appointments, respectively. Women’s health proved to be a top concern for Orlando residents as they booked the most OB/GYN appointments. On average, women booked 8 percent more appointments than men, but in Fort Myers, Fla., men took the lead.

Additionally, ZocDoc found that January was the most popular month to book an appointment and more than 1 in 3 ZocDoc appointments were booked outside of office hours – 38% of appointments, to be exact! All of these rankings were based on the percentage of total appointments booked in each city. Lists of the full rankings can be found on ZocDoc’s blog.
