I found my visit to be frustrating. I was there simply seeking a prescription change but was essentially forced into a talk therapy session.
When discussing my symptoms of a diagnosed anxiety disorder, which I have had and regularly seen a psychologist about for years, I was told, verbatim, that “sometimes we need to realize things aren’t always in our control and just chill.”
This platitude was invalidating and frustrating as someone who lives with this disorder each day and has tried many, many times to “just chill.” I’m glad this wasn’t my first experience with a mental health provider or I would have left thinking I was being ridiculous and my problems weren’t valid. I won’t be returning.
