Healthcare should work for patients, but it doesn’t. In their time of need, they call down outdated insurance directories. Then wait on hold. Then wait weeks for the privilege of a visit. Then wait in a room solely designed for waiting. Then wait for a surprise bill. In any other consumer industry, the companies delivering such a poor customer experience would not survive. But in healthcare, patients lack market power. Which means they are expected to accept the unacceptable.
Zocdoc’s mission is to give power to the patient. To do that, we’ve built the leading healthcare marketplace that makes it easy to find and book in-person or virtual care in all 50 states, across +200 specialties and +12k insurance plans. By giving patients the ability to see and choose, we give them power. In doing so, we can make healthcare work like every other consumer sector, where businesses compete for customers, not the other way around. In time, this will drive quality up and prices down.

Your Impact on our Mission
Zocdoc’s most important asset is our people. As the Design Director, Practice Solutions, you will own and drive the design direction for a critical part of our platform, shaping how providers run and grow their practices while improving how patients access care. You will lead a team of designers and help to define the product and design strategy for the Practice Solutions domain, ensuring that experiences are cohesive, scalable, and deliver meaningful business and user outcomes. This role requires strong systems thinking across a multi-sided platform, as well as the ability to connect long-term vision with near-term execution.
As we evolve toward AI-native product development, you will guide teams in adopting new tools and workflows, helping define how design and engineering collaborate in an AI-driven environment and ensuring we build products with greater speed, quality, and leverage. You will help this team identify and define new product opportunities, shaping zero-to-one initiatives that expand how providers run their practices and how patients access care.

Your day to day is…
- Leading and developing a team of product designers, supporting their growth, performance, and overall impact
- Defining and driving product and design strategy for the Practice Solutions domain in partnership with Product and Engineering leadership
- Driving alignment and decision-making across teams and stakeholders, ensuring cohesive, high-quality experiences at scale
- Establishing and evolving systems, frameworks, and patterns that enable scalable, extensible solutions across the platform
- Raising the quality bar through critique, mentorship, and clear standards for craft, while ensuring teams deliver high-impact work efficiently
- Building strong cross-functional relationships and influencing senior stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes
- Leading the adoption of AI-native workflows, enabling teams to leverage emerging tools to improve how products are designed and built
You’ll be successful in this role if you have…
- Meaningful experience (8+ years) in product design, including leading and developing high-performing design teams, with a leadership style that is direct, empowering, and highly collaborative
- A strong track record of defining product and design strategy, operating as a strategic partner to Product and Engineering leadership, and delivering measurable impact across complex product areas
- Deep systems thinking, with experience building scalable platforms, workflows, or B2B tools, and driving alignment and decision-making across multiple teams and stakeholders
- A high bar for craft and execution, with a demonstrated ability to raise quality across teams while delivering effectively at scale and balancing speed, quality, and long-term sustainability
- A strong sense of ownership and bias toward action, with experience leading zero-to-one product work and integrating emerging technologies, including generative AI, into modern product development workflows

Zocdoc is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Salary ranges are determined through alignment with market data and internal equity. The base salary offered will depend on experience, skills, qualifications, and business needs. Certain positions are also eligible for variable pay and/or equity.
