Carbon Health is a modern healthcare company founded in 2015 that operates a series of primary and urgent care clinics across the US.
Carbon Health simplifies access to the full spectrum of health needs — from acute issues to chronic conditions to mental health care. It combines in-person and virtual care, the latest technology and expert providers to get you care when and where you need it.
Carbon Health’s healthcare business had scaled rapidly and it needed to maximize provider time while increasing patient flow.

When Carbon Health opened in 2015, its team had a huge dream: to become a powerhouse healthcare company bringing affordable primary care to Americans. The company began scaling rapidly to meet its goals. In 2019, Carbon had just 7 clinics. By 2021, it had grown more than tenfold — to 80 clinics across 12 states, with around two new clinics opening each week.

At this point in its evolution, Carbon Health faced a massive new challenge: While it had a series of new facilities, it needed to bring more local awareness of their existence and expertise.
Patients are increasingly looking for healthcare online. But for a budding business like Carbon, standing out among the competition online proved difficult and it needed a diversified approach to reach patient acquisition goals.
While Dominic Gazzuolo, Carbon Health’s Director of Performance Marketing, says his team invested in search engine marketing (SEM) and other tactics to get new patient bookings, they ultimately decided that joining a buzzing digital healthcare marketplace was necessary to bring in enough patients to fill Carbon Health’s rapidly growing number of locations.
Carbon Health turned to Zocdoc to get new patient bookings and help meet their rapid growth goals.
Gazzuolo’s team realized joining Zocdoc would help to increase the number of patients coming into Carbon Health’s clinics. As the largest healthcare marketplace of its kind, Zocdoc attracts millions of patients looking for healthcare every month, making it easier for providers to get bookings — even without extensive marketing of their own. The platform offers an effective path for providers to meet patients looking for medical care.
Carbon Health began listing appointments on Zocdoc in 2017. Put simply: “We went to Zocdoc because that’s where the people were,” says Gazzuolo.

Zocdoc also has a great track record of successfully helping these prospective patients meet the right doctors. Gazzuolo says his team valued how the ease of the marketplace’s user experience successfully drives new patient bookings. Patients like coming to Zocdoc because it’s easy to navigate and find the right doctor to meet their needs.
This is particularly helpful as Carbon Health expands its offerings beyond primary care. “It’s the Amazon for finding a doctor,” he says. “It has everything you need on one page.”
Now, Carbon Health receives more than 1,500 new patient bookings per month from Zocdoc.
Zocdoc helped Carbon Health meet some of its acquisition challenges by bringing in a large number of new patient bookings. In its first three years on the platform, it received more than 4,000 new patient bookings.
Six years later, Zocdoc continues being a valuable, high volume source of Carbon’s new patients. In fact, it gets more than 1,500 new patient bookings per month from Zocdoc across its primary care and urgent care services.

Due to this success, Carbon is still investing in adding new providers to the Zocdoc marketplace. As it started listing even more availability on the marketplace over the past year, its primary care bookings from Zocdoc have increased by 116% and its urgent care bookings from Zocdoc have increased by 1824%.

Being on Zocdoc allows Carbon Health to get in front of more potential patients, who have chosen to search for a provider on Zocdoc for its innovative user experience.
“Zocdoc has just nailed the more modern way of finding a doctor,” Gazzuolo says.
