To book an appointment on Zocdoc with a healthcare provider, the only information you need to share is your name, email, sex, and date of birth. You also have the option to enter additional information, like your insurance carrier, to help you find just the right healthcare provider.
Over the years, patients have asked us to improve more aspects of their healthcare experience by managing more medical information. In fact, we developed Zocdoc Check-In – an opt-in service which helps you digitally complete your medical paperwork and share it with your healthcare providers – because it was the most requested feature from patients.
To make sure we’re always improving Zocdoc, we also track how you use the service – such as the time of day you schedule your appointment, the specialties that you book most often, and the type of device you use.
Zocdoc takes great care of patient information. In fact, the data encryption we use is based on the same standards that banks use to safeguard your financial details. A Zocdoc team member can only view your personal information if helping you directly or helping a healthcare provider with an appointment you booked. Additionally, all of us here at Zocdoc are HIPAA trained, because we want everyone – regardless of role – to remember that patient trust and protection are our highest priorities.
For our core service – appointment-booking – we share your name, insurance details (if you provide them), date of birth, sex, and chosen appointment time with your doctor. If you choose to use Zocdoc Check-In (instead of a clipboard and pen in the doctor’s office), we securely relay to your doctor any information you voluntarily provide.
We also analyze aggregated or personally de-identified data to better understand who uses Zocdoc and how we can deliver a better healthcare experience. For example, testing different kinds of emails has helped us understand when and how patients prefer to get Wellness Reminders for preventive care.
Like other online businesses, we may show ads for our services on other websites or platforms. We never show you ads for third party products.
We may also use aggregated or personally de-identified data for projects that can benefit the world, like studying disease patterns or contributing to public health initiatives. And in the future, we might work with partners to help us accomplish these things.
Rest assured, we will not share your personal information unless we have your consent or are required by law to do so. We never sell your personal information to any third parties.
