Dr. Akkerman is from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He graduated from Boston University Medical School and completed his residency at the University of Minnesota. Before coming to Park Nicollet in 1988, Dr. Akkerman worked in the Army Medical Corp for 3 years as an Ob/Gyn Physician. “I enjoy the mix of surgery, clinic, and deliveries that comprise an active Ob/Gyn practice.” Dr. Akkerman enjoys living and practicing in the suburbs south of the Minnesota River. He chose Park Nicollet because of its excellent reputation in the community along with ready access to physicians from all specialties in the same organization. “My practice is special because of the long-term associations I have had with many wonderful patients of coworkers in the community.” Dr. Akkerman has an interest in high-risk pregnancies and infertility. Dr. Akkerman is married to a former public school teacher and they have a grown son and daughter.
