Getting started with reviews

Understand why reviews are important for your profile, how ratings are calculated, and more.

Why are reviews important?

Reviews help you stand out to patients in Search and can increase your chances of receiving more bookings. The more reviews, the better: patients are 30% more likely to book with a provider with at least 30 reviews than one with fewer than 10 reviews. Watch a short video to learn more.

How can I get more reviews on my profile?

If you have fewer than 30 reviews, you can request reviews from patients who did not book through Zocdoc.

Tip: Patients who book on Zocdoc automatically receive requests to review you, so there’s no need for you to make the request.

From your Home, you can click "Request reviews" on the right hand side.

Or, from your Zocdoc dashboard, scroll down until you see “What do your patients think?” Then, click on "request patient reviews." You may also see a task in Home that encourages you to request reviews.

Tip: You can also encourage your patients to leave you a review in the office.

  1. At the end of appointments, let your patients know you’d appreciate their feedback

  2. Have your front desk remind patients to leave a review on Zocdoc

  3. Include a request for reviews on your appointment cards

Send requests via email from Zocdoc

  1. Copy and paste a list of email addresses of patients who didn’t book through Zocdoc, and we’ll send them a link to write you a review.

To reach your first milestone of 10 reviews, we recommend that you request reviews from at least 30 patients; you can enter up to 30 emails at a time.

  2. Click Send requests, and we’ll do the rest. (It’s that easy!)

You can continue to send more requests. Since this tool is designed to help build your profile early on, you can access it until you reach 30 reviews.

Note: The tool we use to send these review requests collects client email addresses in a HIPAA-compliant manner. We will send the email right away, but we will not email them again. We do not save your clients’ email addresses: the data is deleted from our data servers after 30 days.

Generate a QR code for your office

Easily generate and print out a QR code to your Zocdoc reviews form, so patients can leave any of your providers a review.

Tip: Display your QR code in the office where patients can scan it, like the front desk, waiting room, or as part of their forms.

Copy and share your personal link

You can share a link to your practice’s feedback form and include it in a personal text or email to your patients. Follow the instructions above to find your link in the “Request reviews” page.

Print out a form to give to your patients in-office

Some practices find it easiest to give a reviews form for patients to complete after their appointment. You can print out our HIPAA-compliant form and, after patients complete it, simply email it back to us at partner-reviews@zocdoc.com or fax it to (646) 219-0118. Download the form by following the instructions above to the “Request reviews” page.

Import emails from your appointment history

For eligible EHRs, you can easily import your patient emails and send review requests to your most recent patients directly from Zocdoc. Practices with this option will see an "Import and send" option on their review collection page.

Which providers have reviews?

Providers are eligible to have patient reviews on their Zocdoc profile if they use Zocdoc in one or more of these ways:

  • Listed on the Zocdoc Marketplace

  • Include the Book Online Button on their website

  • Allow patients to book directly from Google

  • Use Zocdoc Video Service

Provider resources (i.e., professionals who work under another provider and do not have their own Zocdoc profile) may receive star ratings but are not eligible to have comments at this time. Learn more about any of the products above.

How are Zocdoc reviews different?

On Zocdoc, every review is written by an actual patient. Zocdoc will only post reviews from patients who interacted with the practice they booked their appointment with. We show two types of feedback: Zocdoc Patient Reviews and Partner Reviews. Our goal is to enable reviews that are fair, accurate, and trustworthy. Two things set these reviews apart from others:

  • Our reviews come from real patients, collected through closed-loop systems. There's a huge difference between open-loop and closed-loop review systems. In an open-loop review system, reviews can be written by anyone, such as people who've never actually seen the doctor, or even by the doctors' staff themselves! Zocdoc uses a closed-loop system, which means every review is written by an actual patient, only after their appointment.

  • We show representative feedback. We solicit reviews after each and every appointment, which generates a higher volume of reviews.

As part of our effort to provide you with more reviews, we include Partner Reviews for some doctors. These reviews are collected by independent patient satisfaction survey providers, like Press Ganey, who specialize in patient feedback and take steps to only solicit reviews from real patients.

How is my star rating calculated?

When patients provide a review, they need to select a star rating to the question, “Would you recommend the professional who treated you?” The overall star rating displayed on your profile is the average of the ratings for this question, rounded up to the nearest hundredth.

How do reviews appear on my profile page?

By default, reviews appear based on what is “most relevant," which is determined by several factors our sorting algorithm uses. We are constantly experimenting with what patients react well to (and this is why the most recently left comment may not be considered the “most relevant”).

We do not publish reviews by the date of the appointment. Protecting our patients' privacy is a top priority, and posting reviews by the date of the appointment provides too much identifiable information.

There are also filters to sort reviews by Highest Rated, Lowest Rated, Newest, or Oldest.

Can I remove a patient review from my profile?

Zocdoc vets every review and does not post reviews that contain profanity, personal information, insurance-related pricing specifics, promotional content, or that question the accuracy of a provider’s diagnosis.

Learn more about how reviews work. If you believe that a review is in violation of our Review Policy, please email trustandsafety@zocdoc.com. Reviews may be disputed up to one year from the date of their approval.

How do I prevent a patient from leaving a review?

We want to create a useful, representative, and reliable resource that you can depend on. That means we post positive reviews, negative reviews, and everything in between. The patient will be able to leave a review if they interacted with the practice, unless it goes against the guidelines above.

If you notice a review from someone who did not interact with your practice or who no-showed their appointment , please email trustandsafety@zocdoc.com. Please note that Zocdoc’s Community Standards prohibit actions that would prevent or remove valid patient reviews.

Am I allowed to respond to a review?

Because the reviews on Zocdoc have to do with healthcare, we do not currently allow responses. It's very important for us to keep patients' healthcare secure, and this could add a risk of their information being posted publicly.
