Verified Reviews on Zocdoc: How We Ensure Real Patient Feedback

Choosing a doctor is personal. Reviews help patients understand what a real visit is like, from bedside manner and communication to wait times and office staff.

Zocdoc limits reviews to real patient experiences. Reviews cannot be posted by people who never had an interaction with the practice. This helps protect patients from fake, misleading, or promotional reviews.

How Zocdoc Verifies Reviews from Real Patients

Zocdoc uses a closed, verification-based review system. A patient can only submit a Zocdoc verified patient review if:

  • The patient booked an appointment on Zocdoc
  • The appointment was attended or involved an interaction with the practice
  • The patient submits their review while logged into their Zocdoc account or using a secure, visit-specific link sent to the email tied to their account.

After the visit, Zocdoc invites the patient to leave feedback. Zocdoc does not edit reviews for tone or sentiment.

Reviews are moderated to ensure they follow guidelines, including checks for profanity, privacy violations, spam, or unverifiable medical claims.

Types of Reviews You May See on Zocdoc

Zocdoc displays clearly labeled review types so patients understand where feedback comes from and what it represents.

Zocdoc Patient Reviews (“Verified patient”)

Verified reviews on Zocdoc are written by patients who booked through the platform and had an interaction with the practice. They are submitted through a logged-in account or a secure, visit-specific link and typically display the “Verified patient” label.

These are the primary reviews patients see on Zocdoc.

Partner Reviews (“Source: Partner”)

Partner reviews come from real patient interactions collected outside Zocdoc’s booking flow. They are labeled as “Source: Partner” for transparency and are moderated to the same content standards as Zocdoc Patient Reviews.

Zocdoc may display up to 30 partner reviews to keep feedback representative and manageable in certain provider scenarios.

Supplemental Reviews

In addition to Zocdoc and partner reviews, some providers may also display Supplemental Reviews. These reviews are shared by providers from existing patients and are often used to give additional context, especially for providers who are new to Zocdoc and don’t yet have many Zocdoc Patient Reviews. Supplemental Reviews are shown with only a patient’s name or initials and do not include the “Verified patient” badge or a “Source: Partner” label.

Like other review types, Supplemental Reviews are intended to add more representative patient feedback, not curated testimonials selected solely to be positive.

Privacy and labeling

Patients may choose to hide their initials for privacy. In those cases, a review may not display the “Verified patient” label.

Does Zocdoc Publish Negative Reviews?

Yes. Verified negative reviews are published as long as they meet content guidelines.

All reviews — positive and negative — are checked for:

  • Profanity or harassment
  • Privacy violations
  • Promotional or irrelevant content
  • Unverifiable medical claims
  • Safety or trust issues

Zocdoc does not curate testimonials or remove critical feedback simply because it’s negative. This helps present a balanced, realistic view of patient experiences. All reviews must meet Zocdoc’s’ Acceptable Use Policy and Community Standards.

How Verified Reviews Help You Choose the Right Doctor

Verified reviews often include practical details that matter in real life, such as:

  • How easy scheduling was
  • Whether office staff were helpful
  • The provider’s listening skills and bedside manner
  • How clearly next steps were explained

Because reviews are tied to real visits, they give patients reliable, first-hand insight into what to expect from a provider and their practice. That makes it easier to find a doctor who fits your needs, communication style, and preferences — not just their credentials on paper.

Bottom line

Zocdoc reviews are built to be more than just comments. They’re a verified, moderated record of real patient experiences.

Zocdoc reviews come from real patients with real appointments, giving you trustworthy, first-hand insight to choose the right provider with confidence. By combining a closed, verification-based system, balanced moderation, clear labeling of review sources, and publication of both positive and negative feedback, Zocdoc aims to provide a review experience that is more fair, accurate, and representative than many generic review platforms.
