Elizabeth M. Trinidad, M.D.is a fellowship trained pediatric neurosurgeon who specializes in the treatment of children and adults afflicted with complex disorders of the brain and spine. Dr. Trinidad is expert in neuroendoscopy and uses minimally invasive techniques when treating diseases of the brain and spine such as tumors, congenital malformations (craniosynostosis, spina bifida and Chiari), hydrocephalus, epilepsy and spasticity, trauma and degenerative disease. She is an expert in managing their care by using stereotactic radiosurgery for tumors and AVM’s (Arteriovenous Malformations).
Dr. Trinidad received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, College of Pharmacy and received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) School of Medicine. At the University of Connecticut, Dr. Trinidad completed her surgical internship. She then served as clinical research Chiari/syringomyelia clinical coordinator and later pursued her neurosurgical residency at the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Science Center at Brooklyn. Dr. Trinidad completed her neurosurgical residency at the University of Texas. She subsequently performed a Pediatric Neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Colorado/The Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Trinidad has conducted numerous clinical research studies on the use of stereotactic radiosurgery, chemotherapy, clinical drug trials for head injury, bone marrow rescue after high dose chemotherapy in leukemia and neuropsychological evaluation of children. Dr. Trinidad has presented at and participated in many meetings and courses including the AANS pediatric annual meetings on topics including "Stereotactic Radiosurgery in Recurrent Ependymoma" and "Multiple Revolution Spiral Osteotomy and Additional Techniques for Cranial Vault Remodeling and Expansion.” She has published extensively, including the chapter “Brain and Spine Trauma” in Irwin and Rippe’s Intensive Care Medicine, co-authored article “Chiari I Malformation Redefined: Clinical and Radiographic Findings in 364 Symptomatic Patients” in Neurosurgery, and co-authored article "CSF Shunt Operations without Cranial Bandaging" which has recently been accepted for publication in the Journal of Neurosurgery.
A Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Army Reserve, Dr. Trinidad was awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. She was granted honors throughout her educational history. Dr. Trinidad has taught at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn in its Department of Neurosurgery, at the University of Connecticut, Department of Surgery, at the UTHSCSA Departments of Pharmacology and Neuroscience. She is a member of many societies including American Medical Association, Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and Women in Neurosurgery.
