Dr. Pekka Soini MD., FACOG, Bi-lingual in Spanish and English, is the founder of Discovery Medical Center. He is a board certified surgeon by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is affiliated with one of the leading teaching hospitals in Illinois-St. Anthony Hospital. Dr. Soini attended the University of Chicago with honors and completed his residency at St. Josephs Hospital. Currently he specializes in Gynecology with Laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques.

Dr.Soini was very nice, but I didn’t like the exam. I was unhappy that he didn’t introduce the other “nurse” in the room and when he did the exam just went right into it. Did not say when something was being done or inserted. Because of that I’m giving a lower rating.

He did a Pap smear without even telling me he was going to do one. I’ve had one before so once I saw the tools I knew what was happening, but I can only imagine how that would’ve felt for someone who had never had one... there was also no nurse present during the Pap smear.
It’s my first pregnancy and I was anticipating my first prenatal visit so I had a list of questions and I brought my prenatal vitamins to get his approval. However, I never even got the chance to ask any questions or express my concerns. He rushed in and rushed out and seemed very inattentive during our short conversation... AND the office was not private at all. Blood is drawn in a very visible cubicle.

It was my first time and I was a little scared the office was hard to find and not very inviting it was very cold in the actual exam room and even though the exam itself was uncomfortable Dr. Soini performed it quickly and with minimum discomfort.

Dr Pekka was amazing! What some may see as rushing, I took as not wasting time. The moment I started asking questions, he stopped moving. If this is what was experienced, they're being ridiculous. Should he go on a lunch date with each patient? Anywho, I had an exam done in office. It was unconfortable at first. A mistake. Just like anyone could make. Once I spoke up, he immediately apologized, corrected the problem and genuinely asked multiple times during the exam to make sure I was comfortable. I say all of this to say, I almost missed a great doctor listening to some of these reviews. Glad I tried him for myself and you should too.

He is incredibly professional and clear in his explanations of medical terms, while still maintaining a bedside manner that lets you know he sees you as a human being, not just another chart. it is clear he truly cares about people and their health. I was seeing this Dr. as a new OB. He did not acknowledge my husband in the room, he asked me for my age instead of my date of birth and name. I heard my babys heartbeat for a brief moment. Not even long enough to record it. He didn't know what Diclegis was (the only 100% pregnancy safe anti nausea medication) It seemed to bother him that I was unable to go back the following Monday for an ultrasound in his office. I requested an order form to do it at a hospital and he was hesitant and even told the girls at the front desk to "set me up with an ultrasound" even though I had informed him that I wouldn't be available to return to his office due to my work schedule. I was able to hear everything he was telling other patients in the exam rooms next to mine. I will not be returning to see Dr. Soini.

From the moment I sat down the office had a warm feeling. Dr. Soini was easy to talk. Explained all my questions in great detail. Worked efficiently and quick. He's very smart and thorough. He wasn't stiff like most doctor's I came across. Definitely knows what he's talking about and his years of experience shows. Literally everything was up to part from the moment I walked in. His staff is pleasant and awesome as well. He's overall very intelligent and knows his craft!
