He earned his medical degree from Universitatea de Medicinai Farmacie Victor Babes Facultatea de Medicina. Dr. Andrei completed his general surgery training at New York Methodist Hospital and his advanced laparoscopic fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1999. Shortly after leaving Mount Sinai, he founded the Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery program at St. Peter’s University Hospital with Dr. Robert Brolin.
Dr. Andrei served as Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital until January 2004, when he transitioned to private practice. He has performed over 4,000 weight loss procedures, including Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAP-BAND® and Realize Band™), Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve, Duodenal Switch, and revisional surgeries. Dr. Andrei is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and is recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence surgeon.
