Adrian Belmes, MA, AMFT
If you're searching for insight, you’re in the right place. My name is Adrian (he/him), and I specialize in working with transgender, gender non-conforming, and queer adults and teens. I especially love helping people find themselves and live more fully in identity. My practice centers on supporting individuals exploring gender and sexuality, navigating poly/ENM relationships, struggling with anxiety and depression, facing major life transitions, and seeking deep understanding of their place in the world.
My practice is centered on supporting individuals facing questions of gender exploration, sexuality, identity formation, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and interpersonal conflict. My work is explicitly LGBTQIA+ affirming, relationship diverse, trauma-informed, sex-positive, kink-aware, and from a harm-reduction perspective. As a queer, transgender, first-generation immigrant therapist, I am committed to supporting my communities and cultivating spaces of empowerment, radical truth, and liberation.
Our work together will be tailored to your needs in a language and style that works best for you. I use a primarily Psychodynamic approach. This means I’m interested in conscious and unconscious life, how the present is influenced by the past, and the intricacies of verbal and somatic language. My work also incorporates tools and techniques from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Narrative Therapy. Our work will be focused on identifying persistent patterns, understanding them deeply, dispersing with illusions, and moving towards a more meaningful reality.
Additionally, I specialize in gender-affirming care and the writing of support letters for gender-affirming surgeries. My experience encompasses writing effective letters of support for hormone replacement therapy (HRT), chest masculinization or feminization surgery (often referred to as “top surgery”), gender-affirming facial surgery (FFS and FMS), gender-affirming body contouring (liposuction, fat grafting, and other procedures), hysterectomy, and various forms of genital surgery (orchiectomy, vaginoplasty, metoidioplasty, phalloplasty, scrotectomy, and other procedures often referred to as “bottom surgery”). I offer single-session assessment appointments with letter-writing service, short-term therapy specific to exploration and education surrounding medical options for gender-affirming care, and letter-writing can be a component of our work in ongoing long-term gender-affirming therapy.
My group practice, Diaspora Therapy Group, accepts insurance payments through BlueCross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, Optum/United HealthCare, Carelon, Kaiser of Southern California HMO, Beacon HMO, Emblem Health HMO, Providence Plan, Unicare, and GHI Commercial.
