My name is Dr. Jason Shackelford, and I am excited to meet you in my new medical practice. I am an Internist, which means that I am a General Practitioner (GP) or Primary Care Provider (PCP) for adults aged 18 and over. Here is my story...
I decided to change careers and become a medical doctor in the year 2000 at the age of 27 after working as a research assistant in different laboratories for 5 years after graduating from college. I wanted to directly help people with their medical problems. I began medical school at the age of 29. I was one of the older medical students in my class. Ultimately, I chose Internal Medicine for my residency and future career because it allowed me to directly help people by building relationships with them and becoming partners with them in promoting health, preventing disease, and managing medical problems daily. After residency, I practiced Internal Medicine for 12 years in a large health system in Pennsylvania. I am grateful for that experience. I had the opportunity to learn from excellent senior doctors and to teach young medical students and residents about Internal Medicine. My passion, however, was for directly caring for patients.
On September 1, 2021, I will open Advocare Chalfont Internal Medicine with the goal of focusing on you, the patient. I want this to be a small practice environment where both personal and professional relationships will develop and thrive. I will strive to create an environment of mutual respect and caring. We will work together to promote health and prevent disease. I will help you solve your medical problems. This often requires detective work, and I really enjoy thinking through complex problems. Each medical problem has more than one way to diagnose and treat it. I will discuss the options for diagnosis and treatment with you. Together, we will consider your wishes and goals and decide on a plan that makes the most sense for you. In summary, I hope to become your friend and partner in promoting health, preventing disease, and managing medical problems.
