Alexandra Tesnakis, LMHC
Hi, I’m Allie. I’m a licensed mental health counselor with over 6 years of experience providing individual and group therapy to all age ranges. I’ve been on both sides of the couch and know how truly important a strong therapeutic relationship is to a person’s growth. I show up every day as my authentic self and work to provide you with a safe, non-judgemental and accepting space.
I work from a client-centered approach that is trauma-informed, queer positive and anti-oppressive. I acknowledge the effect psychological oppression and systematic injustice have on my client’s mental health and well-being. Therapy isn’t one size fits all and the structure looks different for everyone based on their own unique experiences and specific needs. You are the expert in your own life and I allow the therapy space to grow and change along with you. In my work I utilize a variety of evidence-based approaches such as DBT, CBT, Mindfulness and Relational Therapy.
Throughout my career, I have worked with seniors, adults, adolescents and children. I find I do my best work with youth and millennial adults who struggle with childhood and complex trauma, post-traumatic stress, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem, self-worth, relational trauma, anxiety and depression. Childhood abuse and neglect have long-lasting effects on how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we regulate our emotions. I hope to utilize the therapy space as a way to help you build empathy and understanding for yourself, build insight into long-term relational patterns that may be holding you back, and build skills for emotional regulation.
Therapy isn’t easy and it may feel uncomfortable as you let go of old patterns that no longer serve you, but I promise to be there as a guide and support while you move towards growth and self-compassion.
