Alison Prevo LMHC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who practices using an attachment-based, humanistic, and psychodynamic framework. I specialize primarily in anxiety disorders, relational/attachment trauma, personality disturbances, and couples work. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fordham University and have received specialized training in couples therapy at the William Alanson White Institute.
My approach to couples therapy is systemic, meaning I work with couples to uncover the unconscious dynamics each partner brings to the relationship and the ways our individual pasts imprint themselves on our present-day relationships, both with our partners and with ourselves. By focusing on these dynamics, couples come to understand the deeper structure of their conflicts and recognize the dysfunctional patterns that need to be addressed.
Choosing the right psychotherapist is an essential part of the path to emotional healing and self-awareness. Each client who comes into my office is beginning a new journey, inviting me into their lives and becoming a part of mine. I strive to honor that by creating a trusting environment that allows clients to express themselves fully and explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with me.
I believe that a positive therapeutic relationship, which blossoms organically over time between client and therapist, is the most critical aspect of treatment. The unconditional positive regard offered by a therapist is gradually internalized by the client and sets the stage for developing a positive relationship with oneself and others. In providing this corrective emotional experience, I am consistently amazed by the trajectory of my clients' emotional growth, self-awareness, and ability to navigate relationships successfully.

Alison is amazing. She has knowledge and experience with many different issues which is evident from day one. She provides a calm, comfortable space that allows me to open up free of judgement. She asks focused questions
that challenge my usual way of thinking and have helped me shift to a healthier mindset. I know that she is genuinely committed to helping me take the correct steps toward personal growth and healing. She is supportive and encouraging, and I have made a great deal of progress because of our sessions.

Alison is a very compassionate and professional therapist who made me feel safe right away. We have been working together for some time and I feel very comfortable with her. I know I've made progress in our work together and can even find myself helping myself through things on my own using what I think she might say in a session. Can't recommend her enough.
AIVerified patient
Alison is absolutely wonderful! She is a great listener and attentive. She is very understanding and patient. She helps guide you through your thinking process and problems. From broken relationships to losses in life and the day to day struggle we may have. She is insightful and makes you feel comfortable to open up. She always responds to messages and is flexible if you need to change an appt. I am very pleased with the progress we have made together. We need more therapists like her!!

I've been seeing Alison for a little over two years now and I can say frankly that she has saved my life. I've been in and out of therapy since I was Fourteen dealing with anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues. Within the first six months of working together Alison was the first therapist to ever put a finger on my biggest roadblock. I was suffering from undiagnosed ADHD. Ever since the knowledge that that diagnosis has provided me has been a game/life changer. I cannot put into words how amazing it's been discovering this new sense of self. I owe so much of it to Alison and her abilities as a Mental Health Counselor. She's incredible!
