At All Dermis, we know what it’s like to live in New York City. The constant bustle, on the move, fast-paced way of life can be invigorating, but can also take a toll on one’s health. Our skin, the body’s largest organ, is no exception, as daily work hard / play hard routines and environmental stressors take their toll. Not to mention the hassle of finding time in one’s schedule to make an appointment for preventive or precautionary skincare.

That was a great appointment. It was my first skin cancer screening, and MA Michelle and Dr. Chan were a great team. Really down to earth, positive, and helpful, with outstanding bedside manner. As an ex-bedside RN, who knows there's range of professionalism within healthcare, I've got to say that I highly recommend this team. Will be back!

Overall quite a good visit. The only thing that the examination room was sorely lacking was sufficient and adequate, large hooks to hang one's clothes, since you usually have to take them ALL off in order for the dermatologist to give you a full exam. There were only two tiny button studs on one wall.
I would also have felt more comfortable if things didn't happen as fast as they did. Dr. Chan found one area under my right eye that looked suspicious to him and proceeded to cut a bit into it to get a specimen for a biopsy. This made me forget to show him an area on my right thumb where the skin keeps breaking, and has remained rough despite the moisturizing cream I use on my hands before I go to bed each night. In other words, I felt a bit rushed (at least for my age; I am 80). Younger patients may be able to go with such a flow more readily perhaps.

Dr. Chan was honestly the worst doctor I’ve ever seen. He rushed into the room ready to dismiss my condition without examining it and began to prescribe exactly the same medicine I had already used (which I’d noted on the very long intake form). When I told him I'd already used it, he said I probably hadn’t used it a certain way, and I told him I had. The inspection he ultimately did do was cursory and slapdash. In addition to his careless treatment, he had terrible bedside manner. He spoke very quickly, mumbled behind his mask, and spoke only toward his computer without looking at me, even when he wasn’t doing anything on the computer. I tried to show him some photos of my condition at its worst, and he said “those pictures aren’t helping anything” without carefully looking at them. Icing on the cake, he prescribed several medications which were astronomically expensive (Zocdoc will not allow me to "include pricing specifics," but one medication cost more than my rent), and when my pharmacy tried multiple times to contact him and find an alternative, he simply never responded. Save yourself some grief. Do not go to Dr. Chan.

Dr Chen is awesome and super helpful. He was able to see me quickly on a couple of occasions where I had an urgent need to see a dermatologist. Even when I had a rare and poorly understood condition, he was able to treat me successfully and quickly bring me comfort and relief! So grateful for him.

I liked the doctor and how he helped me to understand my health concerns and ways to approach. However he assured me I shouldn’t worry about the charges for allergy testing. Also I was never charged a co-pay visit. That all came as a surprise in a large bill later. I’m not sure if I can recommend this doctor.
