Avita Integrative Care, LLC
Avita Integrative Care is a boutique psychotherapy and wellness practice located in Teaneck, New Jersey, dedicated to providing deeply personalized, integrative mental health services for individuals, families, and organizations. Founded and led by Dr. Kalman Khodik, Psy.D., B.C.B., Avita stands at the intersection of clinical psychology, neuroscience, and holistic healing. The practice is built upon the belief that true emotional wellbeing emerges from the harmony of mind, body, and spirit—a state we call Mind-Body Coherence.
Our Mission:
At Avita Integrative Care, our mission is to cultivate sustained emotional wellness and inner alignment through compassionate, evidence-based, and integrative psychotherapy. We believe that healing is not simply the reduction of symptoms, but a journey toward coherence—a deep state of balance in which thought, emotion, physiology, and behavior operate in synchrony.
Our approach honors both the science of psychology and the art of human connection. Every individual carries a unique story and an innate capacity for growth; our role is to provide the structure, support, and tools to help that potential unfold. Through this philosophy, Avita aims to redefine mental health care—bridging traditional psychotherapy with innovative mind-body modalities to offer comprehensive healing experiences.
Our Care Philosophy:
Avita’s approach integrates the best of modern clinical psychology with holistic and somatic practices that address the full spectrum of human experience. Drawing from psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral approaches, mindfulness, biofeedback, and somatic regulation, our clinicians personalize care to each client’s needs and goals.
We view mental health not as a separate domain from physical health, but as an extension of it. Stress, trauma, and emotional dysregulation leave measurable imprints on the body—altering breath, muscle tone, heart rhythm, and even immune function. Similarly, cultivating regulation through breath-work, mindfulness, and somatic awareness can restore psychological equilibrium.
This integration of psychotherapy and physiology lies at the heart of Avita’s philosophy. Our sessions are spaces for both insight and embodiment—where clients can explore the origins of emotional distress while learning practical skills to calm the nervous system, deepen self-awareness, and create lasting behavioral change.
Our Clinical and Multidisciplinary Team:
Under the leadership of Dr. Kalman Khodik, Avita Integrative Care brings together a team of licensed psychologists, psychotherapists, externs, and holistic health specialists who share a passion for integrative healing. The team’s collective expertise spans clinical psychology, biofeedback, trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based therapy, and somatic regulation, as well as family systems, couples therapy, and expressive modalities.
Dr. Khodik serves as Clinical Supervisor and Executive Director for both Avita Integrative Care (New Jersey) and Avita Psychological Care (New York). He oversees training, case formulation, and supervision, ensuring that each clinician receives ongoing mentorship in evidence-based and integrative treatment models. This structure allows Avita to maintain the warmth and intimacy of a boutique practice while providing the depth and professionalism of an advanced training institute.
Our clinicians come from diverse educational backgrounds and bring specialized expertise in areas such as anxiety and depression, trauma recovery, relationship dynamics, child and adolescent development, executive functioning, and psychosomatic disorders. Each team member shares a commitment to Avita’s mission of helping clients restore connection—within themselves and with others.

• Individual Psychotherapy: Evidence-based care tailored to adults and adolescents seeking support for anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions.

The Avita Environment:
Located at 763 River Road in Teaneck, New Jersey, Avita’s physical space reflects its philosophy of calm, coherence, and connection. The offices are designed with a boutique aesthetic—soft lighting, natural textures, glass partitions, and soothing colors that promote serenity and focus. Every detail, from the artwork to the ambient music, is curated to support a sense of safety and presence.
Our waiting area offers a tranquil introduction to the Avita experience, while each therapy room provides privacy and comfort for both in-person and virtual sessions. The space embodies our belief that environment matters—that healing unfolds most naturally in surroundings that invite calm and reflection.
Community and Accessibility:
Avita Integrative Care is grounded in service to the local and extended community. Through its Training Clinic and community partnerships, Avita provides accessible, low-fee psychotherapy for individuals and families who might otherwise struggle to afford care. The practice collaborates with schools, organizations, and healthcare providers across Bergen County and the greater New York metropolitan area to promote mental health literacy and reduce stigma.
Avita’s clinicians also participate in ongoing education, research, and outreach—contributing to a broader movement toward integrative, ethically grounded mental health care.
Our Guiding Principles:
1. Integration Over Fragmentation: Healing requires alignment of mind, body, and emotion—not compartmentalized treatment.
2. Personalization Over Protocol: Every person’s journey is unique; we tailor therapy to each client’s story, values, and readiness.
3. Connection Over Isolation: Growth emerges through relationship—between therapist and client, thought and feeling, body and mind.
4. Coherence Over Perfection: The goal of therapy is not to eliminate distress, but to create inner harmony and adaptive resilience.
5. Compassion Over Judgment: We meet every client where they are, with empathy, authenticity, and respect for their lived experience.

Was not clean about insurance that they accepted.

This was an experience that was a waste of time. This doctor did not provide me with any help that could help me mentally and charged me money even-though he states he took my insurance.

Very professional and asked great questions. Quickly took in a lot of information and made excellent points/observations without overly controlling the session. The time spent felt very productive (keeping in mind that therapy is an ongoing process.)

It was my first time in therapy and I was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable Dr. Kalman made me feel. Walking out of the first appointment I felt like I had already made reflections I hadn’t otherwise realized before. I will definitely return to continue progressing with Dr. Kaplan’s great bedside manner.

First session, I was not paired up with Dr. Khodik. I had someone who was still great. It was nerve-racking, but Dr. Pasternak always tried to make me feel as comfortable as she could. It was extremely easy talking to her. I definitely look forward to the second session!!
March 29, 2018Jazmin S.Verified patient
Our conversation was a bit stilted and awkward, and I felt his comments/interpretations were more general rather than a direct response to my case. He did seem kind and attentive though, so maybe someone else will find him a better fit.

I didn’t mesh with Dr. Khodik during the initial session. He made some assumptions about me without knowing me that made me uncomfortable. Maybe he is good for others, but it wasn’t a good match for me.

I am a long time therapy goer and was VERY happy to meet Dr. Khodik. We agreed to meet a couple more times to make sure that it's a mutual good fit before committing to a weekly treatment, which is what I am looking for. It was a first session, but I can say he is smart, attentive, organized and caring. Highly recommend.

Dr. Khodik came off as brusque and short-tempered from the first phone call, when he gave me 5 hours (mostly in the evening) to respond before threatening to cancel my appointment which was in 2 days. I attended despite the trepidation that this caused, and while the session felt rather tense we were making progress until the issue of billing came up. He was absolutely insistent on my paying immediately, which I was hesitant to do given the complications of insurance billing procedures. He then got quite worked up and accused me of wanting to 'stiff him' for simply stating that I had an HSA and would cover the bill when it was received. The experience was extremely sour. Never again.

Wonderful listener, really good first appointment and looking forward to going back. Dr. Kalman is welcoming, warm and only feeds back once he really understands a situation.

I didn't know what to expect and honestly didn't really want to go in the first place. Dr. Khodik set me at ease very quickly with how relaxed yet professional he was. I look forward to our next conversation.
thanks doc!

It was not great and I felt a bit uncomfortable because of some awkward silences. He Wasn't good at being warm or making me feel comfortable. I also think he sees so many different people It felt like he was just repeating typical psycho babble. Not for me.

I wanted to see a psychiatrist and accidentally booked a psychologist who could not prescribe me my medication. It was completely my fault and a total misunderstanding. It was however a great session and I would continue to see the Dr. Khodik if I were in the market for a therapist but I'm not as of present.

Dr. Khodik listens patiently and without bias, and guides you to self-discovery in a relaxed environment. I find the sessions to be very positive and cathartic.

Unfortunately, what I thought was a "Free Consultation" turned into a paid session due to insurance deductible. Bummer... Will have to keep looking.

Dr. Khodik is great. I've seen several different therapists in my past, but Dr. Khodik is the first to make me feel very comfortable during our sessions. I look forward to our appointments. If I could, I'd recommend him to all my friends and family (but I think that would be a conflict of interest lol)
July 12, 2016Initials hidden
He made a point to start off the appointment (our first) with 30 minutes of talking out the issues I've perceived. This is in contrast to many who may spend the introductory time dealing with insurance details and/or paperwork.

The elevator wasn't working in the building and had to walk about four flights of stairs, but didn't mind because I love a great workout. Dr. was polite and I want to return again, to find out that he has no available appointment's what a bummer.
April 14, 2016Tamika M.Verified patient
Was not willing to make an effort to treat me and fit me into his schedule even though I am in great need of help. ....As per his own evaluation.
March 17, 2016Lilia V.Verified patient
Dr Khodik was very professional and sympathetic, I really appreciate the fact that he spent some extra time with me to finish up my first visit. It made me very comfortable that and I can speak to him in two languages to deliver best illustration of the problem. Very pleasant experience.
