Bala Womens Health
We are a passionate group of medical professionals dedicated to caring for women in our community. Our providers, Dr. Helene Koch and Physician Assistant Carissa McIlwain PA-C, develop long-lasting relationships with patients to provide personalized, up-to-date care. All have deep roots in the area and an expansive referral base to colleagues in university settings and top specialists.
At Bala Women’s Health, we are experienced in caring for women of all ages, addressing routine needs as well as urgent care, education, and preventative advice. We make sure our patients are well-informed decision-makers in matters of their own health. Our consultation visits are routinely very thorough and unrushed, where questions and concerns are welcomed.

I had my first initial visit with Dr. Koch today and I had a very good visit experience. I had a little longer wait than expected but I was okay with it. Once I met with Dr. Koch, she was very courteous and thorough in asking and obtaining my health history. She also has a very good sense of humor. After my consultation with Dr. Koch she discussed with me about my treatment goal for my health care needs. I look forward to being a continued patient of Dr. Koch.

62 yr woman. In all of my yrs of going to any dr for any reason ( I have no chronic illness) I have never met with a Dr that has been so thorough in explanations, listened with actual interest and has taken the time, usually, other Dr's, no matter what field, specialty or their gender has ever spent so much time in a visit. What a breath of fresh air! Highly recommend her! Very, very pleased!!

Excellent attention to my needs with recurrent UTIs after menopause. Dr.. Koch and her staff were professional and knowledgeable. There is a wait- be prepared- but it is well worth the help I received.

I received several reminder notices about my appointment everyday for several days beforehand. My appointment was at 3. I got there at 2:45 and was immediately taken back. The nurse got through all the intake questions by 3:30 and was very nice. I got undressed and waited. At 4:30 the nurse came back in to tell me the doctor is chronically late and offer snacks. At 5:15 I got dressed. That’s when the doctor came in. I left without getting my exam.

Dr. Koch is amazing. She is very knowledgeable and was genuinely concerned about the issues I brought up. We discussed a variety of treatments and changes that could help me.
My biggest issue was the wait time. My appointment was at 2:20, but I didn’t see Dr. Koch until 4:30. Maybe the office should schedule fewer appointments in a day or at the very least let patients know if there is a long delay so that they can reschedule if needed. I was in the office for over 3.5 hours from check in to check out.

The office was clean everything and everyone was organized. Doctor was nice and very thorough. The only concerning thing was there was a young man training that was in the room during my exam. I was not asked if l was ok with his presence during my new patient appointment.

I waited for a while before someone took my vitals. Then I had to sit back in the waiting are. Almost another hour before I went to the back again, (they needed to take my vitals), I told them somebody already did that. Waited in the room for a long time before seeing the Doctor. I guess because I was a new patient, and she was private Doc. All in all I was there from 130- almost 5 pm. I'm debating if I want to return. I do but I don't. She was a good Doc though

I did wait four hours to see the doctor, 3 of which were after intake. The overall appointment was very good! She took her time explaining everything to me and was in depth with what she was doing!

She won me over. At first sight I was thinking this is not the typical office style I am used to (clear imagery.) The wait was much longer than expected. BUT after meeting with Dr Koch and staff I was immediately convinced this was the Dr for me. I appreciated her ‘get at it’ response to my care. She reminded me of the show House lol with a softer bedside manner. I absolutely loved her. Dr Koch is so real and after receiving treatment and meeting with her one on one. She is the ‘Blasis!’ - Super!

It’s doesn’t matter how long you wait to see Dr. Koch. It is worth it! I have been going to her for a few years now and I LOVE her office! She is direct and to the point and she understands your needs and gives GREAT advice and is dedicated to finding a way to help you get what you need. I appreciate her so much and her staff, and I will always go here.

The staff was very friendly and thorough. Office was a little crowded due to staff shortage (ma). Dr spent equal time with all patients and was very apologetic for the wait.
As a new patient it helps to book out extra time in your schedule for things that may delay your appointment. Dr was very thorough in her questions and her exam. I was pleased.

My appointment was at 4:40, I sat in the waiting room until almost 6. I asked the PA student who took my vitals if the wait time is usually like this, to which he said yes. After taking my vitals he checked in with staff and let me know it would be at LEAST another hour before I would see the doctor. Luckily I was able to refund my copay, I unfortunately will not be returning as I’ve heard great things about the doctor but didn’t even get seen. Please respect people’s time!
