Balanced Mind Therapy Solutions
I'm Donna Dolan, LCSW-R, a clinical social worker, psychotherapist, and owner of Balanced Mind Therapy Solutions, with 20+ years of experience in behavioral health and healthcare. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, life transitions, and other challenges affecting emotional well-being.
My work as a therapist has been shaped by more than 20 years of experience across behavioral health and healthcare settings. Over that time, I have worked with people facing a wide range of emotional and life challenges. That experience has reinforced something I continue to believe: effective therapy begins with understanding the individual, not simply the symptoms.
I became a therapist because I believe people can make meaningful change and that the right support at the right time can make a difference. I remain genuinely curious about people and why we think, feel, and respond the way we do. That curiosity still shapes how I approach my work today.
What Therapy With Me Is Like
Clients often describe me as calm, warm, and direct, with a sense of humor that can lighten the process when appropriate. I believe therapy should feel like a collaborative space where you can speak openly without judgment. I also believe good therapy involves more than listening. I ask questions, offer observations, provide education when it may be helpful, and gently challenge patterns that may be getting in your way.
I take time to understand your situation before recommending a path forward. I won't offer a one-size-fits-all solution because people don't work that way.
My Approach to Therapy
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Good treatment begins with understanding the problem we are trying to treat. My work is integrative and informed by evidence-based approaches.
I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), mindfulness-based approaches, and psychoeducation, selecting and combining approaches based on your concerns, goals, needs, and preferences.

Helping You Reach Your Goals
We will set clear, meaningful goals early on, often using SMART goals to clarify strategies and milestones. We revisit them regularly to track progress and adjust as needed.
Setbacks are part of growth. When they happen, we reflect on your goals and why you started therapy to restore clarity and motivation.
Teletherapy in New York & Florida
I offer online therapy to clients located in New York and Florida. Whether you're in the city, the suburbs, or anywhere else in either state, you can access therapy from the comfort of your own home.
Psychotherapy sessions are secure, private, and convenient. All you need is a quiet space and a reliable internet connection.
What to expect in your first session
The first session is an intake and assessment— a chance for me to get to know you and for you to get a sense of what working with me is like. There's no pressure to share everything at once.
We'll talk about what's brought you to therapy, your personal and family history, and what you're hoping to change or achieve. By the end, we'll start identifying your goals and discuss what a treatment plan might look like.
Most people find the first session feels more like a conversation than a formal evaluation. You're welcome to ask me questions too — finding the right fit matters.
Therapy that begins with understanding.
A Safe Space
Therapy should feel like a place where you can speak openly, without judgment. I work to create that environment from the very first session.
Evidence-Based Care
I draw on evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, ERP, and mindfulness-based strategies, tailored to your individual needs and goals.
Collaborative Process
We work together to understand what's getting in the way and build a path forward that fits your life.
You don't have to navigate this alone.

I came to Donna with a lot to unpack and deal with. Although we can only discuss so much in an hour, she made sure to leave me with some advice and things to work on till the next time we met. She truly cares about my well being and is helping me navigate past trauma and life itself at a pace that is healthy for me. She has also worked I with me to reschedule our sessions for times that work for me and joins our sessions promptly. Although we are still fairly new to each other I cannot recommend her enough! I feel comfortable and like I am just talking to a friend of mine free of judgement.

I had my first session with Donna last week, and I’m already feeling grateful for her support. From the moment we met, she was kind, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in my well-being. She made me feel comfortable and listened to right away, which was important for me, as starting therapy can feel daunting.
Donna was punctual, which I really appreciated, and during the session, she offered several practical techniques to help manage my anxiety. She clearly explained everything, making sure I understood how to apply these tools to my daily life.
Overall, I left the session feeling more hopeful and equipped to handle some of the challenges I’ve been facing. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with her and would highly recommend her to anyone seeking compassionate, effective therapy.

I wholeheartedly recommend Donna to anyone seeking therapy. I requested an emergency session with Donna and thankfully she was able to accommodate due to a cancelation. I am really grateful for her quick response and the insight she was able to provide for my situation. I truly felt heard and supported, and appreciated the guidance provided. Thanks, Donna!

I am very grateful to Donna’s care and professionalism during our sessions. She is great at putting the words and terms to my experiences, and also very good at remembering things from past sessions! I am very lucky to be working with her.

I was really hesitant to start therapy again after a 3 year break… i had pushed issues down for those 3 years instead of properly processing them and had just become numb. I got tired of just living without actually enjoying my life. I feel like in those 3 years without therapy, a light within me turned off and I couldn’t figure out how to get it back on myself. With recent health issues, I knew the stress would end up putting me over the edge, and I was scared it would permanently put me over the edge. I did extensive research on finding the right therapist for me and what I personally need. Although we have only had 2 sessions so far, Our sessions have helped tremendously with keeping me grounded and in the present with the stress of my health. My anxiety has not gotten the best of me and I’m still in shock with how well she has helped me cope with not only my current situations, but to not let my past traumatic experiences dictate how I deal my current life.

Donna is really good at remembering things and speaking to me on my level and explaining things for me to understand. I hope I can continue to work with her.
PMVerified patient
Donna has such a calm and caring demeanor, which made opening up (even in the first appointment) feel completely comfortable and organic. I appreciate her approach to therapy – that people can grow and "graduate" from certain issues in their lives with the proper tools and maintenance, and that no one should feel bound to therapy for the foreseeable future. It's pragmatic, realistic and honest. Excited to dive deeper with her!

Donna is the absolute best. She really pays attention and cares about what you have to say. The connections she can make and the things she can point out that you didn’t even realize is so impressive!

Donna is one of the most empathetic social workers I have ever worked with to improve myself. She knows how to lighten a mood and relate to the patient, but not to compare or belittle what you feel. I look forward to seeing her every week and taking what she has to suggest to truly improve my mentallity. She truly knows how to professionally listen, and always has the right thing to say. She will guide you to see the bigger picture in situations. I truly love being a patient Donna and only have good things to say about her!

Donna speaks with my daughter and she seems to like her a lot. Although I’m not with them during the appointment I’m happy with the way it’s going. My daughter says it’s going well. Donna is very personable and is a good fit for her.

I have been a patient of Donna's for a couple of years and there are simply no words to describe the impact she has had on my life. When you are in session you are the one and only priority during that time. To say Donna cares would be an understatement, you can tell it is her passion to help her patients. She is extremely well educated and truly takes time to research what will best help each individual patient. I have recommended Donna to many people, and will continue recommending her. Donna has truly helped me make a 180 with my mental health and I am forever grateful for everything she has done for me.

I think that she is a very good person to speak to about anything and that she is there for you to speak about anything that is going on and will listen and give you feedback that will help you a lot.
