Many adults who grew up with emotionally immature parents learned early on to suppress their needs, manage other people’s emotions, and keep the peace at all costs. As adults, this can show up as chronic guilt, difficulty setting boundaries, people-pleasing, emotional shutdown, or repeating unhealthy relationship patterns.
I specialize in working with adult children of emotionally immature parents who are ready to understand how their early family dynamics continue to impact their confidence, communication, and sense of self. Therapy is a space to untangle long-standing patterns, process unresolved emotions, and build healthier ways of relating to others.
Our work focuses on:
• Strengthening boundaries without overwhelming guilt
• Reducing people-pleasing and over-functioning
• Processing anger and unresolved resentment
• Developing emotional regulation and clarity
• Building stable, secure relationships
• Breaking generational cycles
For clients navigating cultural expectations or Christian family systems, therapy can also explore how faith and family dynamics have shaped your emotional experience. My approach respects both your cultural identity and spiritual values while helping you develop healthier patterns moving forward.
This is intentional, structured work. We identify patterns, build practical skills, and move toward lasting emotional stability — not just temporary relief.
You don’t have to keep carrying what was never yours to hold. Healing allows you to live with clearer boundaries, stronger relationships, and a more grounded sense of who you are.

Working with Cannan Baker was a very enlightening time. He helped me through some really difficult times and was very flexible with my demanding work schedule. I literally cannot say enough good things about him. Through him I learned to prioritize my own mental health and dive deep into my own self worth.

Canaan created a safe space to be vulnerable and work through a lot of hurt when I wasn't able to bottle it up anymore. Somehow he knew when to push and when to be patient without it ever seeming like things were out of my control. Our sessions helped me find a new, more self-affirming voice and tools to use when negative thinking attempts to steal my joy.
I've had some very good experiences with counseling before but working with Canaan has been life changing. (Maybe that sounds melodramatic but it's true)
Throughout this stage of therapy I've put a lot of work into becoming better and Canaan was an excellent guide.

Cannan has been my therapist for quite sometime. He not only helped me restore my positive thinking but also have the knowledge and experience to understand me without judgement which has been troubling in my life. He always helps me to think clearly about myself and for that I am grateful.
