I am a professor of clinical psychology at Long Island University, a recognized expert in the treatment of a number of psychological issues, and I have trained hundreds of psychologists.
My treatment philosophy is to use a gentle and empathic approach, but also to help clients make observable progress each week. I conduct federally funded research in many of the areas of expertise I have, so clients can be sure that they are receiving state-of-the-art care.
The point of psychotherapy is for the person to feel better and to get on with life – without the therapist. To that end, most courses of treatment are "time limited," meaning that my goal is not to keep you in therapy for the long term.

Our child was suffering with a common, yet not very well known, condition. After 6 months of physiological treatment with no resolution, we were referred to Dr. Ortiz.
Our child’s condition improved quickly and was resolved soon thereafter using Dr. Ortiz’s effective treatment plan. We are so grateful!

Dr. Ortiz has been terrific. We came to him with some very specific needs that were rather non-traditional. He was very flexible and understanding, and worked with us to figure out a customized approach. At the same time, he was very clear about his point of view and recommended approach and thinking. A great partner in our treatment!

Dr. Ortiz has helped our son tremendously with his anxiety. We had seen many therapists before meeting Dr.Ortiz and no was was able to help us like Dr.Ortiz has. He has helped our son manage his anxiety as well as helped us to parent an anxious child successfully.

My family has been seeing Dr Ortiz for a number of years. He has taught us how to cope with our son’s issues which has had a positive affect on our lives. He is a very concerned and caring doctor.

I brought my son to see Dr. Ortiz based on recommendation from another friend. He was diagnosed with depression and was committed to a hospital for a few days because of his suicidal threats. My son is often quiet, moody and doesn't communicate with many words. He sleeps more than normal and often during the day. Dr. Ortiz spent time alone with him on the initial visit and my son told me he got along well with him. He has been doing teletherapy for more than a month now, twice a week with Dr. Ortiz and I can see he is making progress. I am highly satisfied with the work he's been doing with my son and I hope my son continues improving his outlook on life and has a more positive view of himself and his self worth.
