Changing Course Psychological Services, LLC

My main therapy approach, no matter what the age, is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I think everyone needs to go through DBT training, including me!! I love sharing these skills and principles that are designed to help manage intense emotions, increase our mindfulness, and build healthier connections with those around us. This approach has been helpful in my work with treating individuals with trauma-based disorders, including veterans. In addition, DBT is effective with other presenting concerns, like anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation/actions, addiction, bipolar, and borderline personality. I love to work with couples who are struggling in their communication or are needing help fine tuning their connection. Highly motivated couples are likely to benefit from marriage therapy the most. I use the Hope Focused Marriage Therapy approach. Teens and tweens are also who I enjoy working with. So many teens need extra support as they navigate this digital age and all the increasing stresses that they encounter. Often working with teens/tweens involves parent coaching and the occasional family session, as the family dynamic is important to address. My clients tend to call me a good listener and that I show I care. I try to be relatable and insert humor when appropriate. I’m very animated in how I communicate, so you will definitely get feedback and resources. Feel free to call and schedule a 20 minute consult to see if I might be of help.

I am also a therapist and I was looking to learn more about DBT, both for myself and to use with my clients. Dr. Amanda was excellent. We talked about my own job, my personal life, as well as learning DBT skills. I really appreciate the balance of each session, how we got to do mindfulness and talk therapy together and I really enjoyed Dr. Amanda's energy and expertise.
