Complete Health Sleep SoCal
Complete Health Sleep SoCal is a dental sleep medicine practice helping adults throughout San Diego County and Southern California with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Our focus is simple: help you breathe better at night so you can feel better during the day.
Our office is centrally located in Poway, convenient to Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, San Marcos, Ramona, Scripps Ranch, Carmel Mountain, Rancho Peñasquitos, Mira Mesa, and greater San Diego. We also see patients from North County coastal communities, Temecula, and beyond. With at-home sleep testing and a streamlined treatment process, many patients find it easy to work with us even if they live farther away.
ABOUT DR. RAPPAPORT
The practice is led by Dr. Erela Katz Rappaport, D.M.D., a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (D. ABDSM) and a Qualified Dentist with the American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine. Board certification in dental sleep medicine reflects advanced training and experience in treating sleep-disordered breathing with oral appliance therapy.
Dr. Rappaport takes a whole-health approach that connects sleep, oral health, and brain health. She is the author of Breathe Easy Sleep Deep, a book about sleep apnea, and writes Sleep, Smiles & Synapses, a weekly newsletter on sleep apnea, oral health, and brain health. She is passionate about helping patients understand their sleep and find a treatment they can actually live with.
WHO WE HELP
We see adults who:
Snore loudly or have been told their snoring disturbs a partner
Have been diagnosed with mild, moderate, or severe obstructive sleep apnea
Have tried CPAP and found it uncomfortable, noisy, or hard to use consistently
Travel often and want a portable treatment option
Wake up tired, with headaches, or with a dry mouth, even after a full night in bed
Have been told they stop breathing, gasp, or choke during sleep
Want to explore treatment options before committing to CPAP
WHY SLEEP APNEA MATTERS
Obstructive sleep apnea happens when the airway repeatedly narrows or collapses during sleep, interrupting breathing and lowering oxygen levels. Many people don’t know they have it. Untreated sleep apnea is associated with daytime fatigue, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, weight gain, acid reflux, memory and concentration problems, mood changes, and a higher risk of drowsy-driving accidents. Treating it can make a real difference in how you feel and in your long-term health.
ORAL APPLIANCE THERAPY
Oral appliance therapy is an effective, well-established treatment for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. A custom oral appliance looks similar to a sports mouthguard or orthodontic retainer. Worn during sleep, it gently positions the lower jaw forward to help keep the airway open.
Patients often prefer oral appliances because they are:
Comfortable and custom-fitted to your teeth
Quiet, with no machine, hose, or mask
Small and easy to travel with
Simple to clean and care for
Every appliance we provide is custom-made from precise impressions or scans of your teeth and is fine-tuned over several visits for comfort and effectiveness.
AT-HOME SLEEP TESTING
You don’t need to spend a night in a sleep lab to find out whether you have sleep apnea. We offer convenient at-home sleep testing, so you can be tested in the comfort of your own bed, wherever you live in Southern California. Results are reviewed by a board-certified sleep physician.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Consultation: We’ll talk about your sleep, your symptoms, your health history, and any previous sleep testing or treatment. Dr. Rappaport will examine your teeth, jaw, and airway.
Sleep testing: If you haven’t been tested, or need an updated test, we can arrange an at-home sleep test.
Custom appliance fabrication: If oral appliance therapy is a good fit, we take impressions or scans to create your custom device.
Fitting and adjustments: We fit your appliance and gradually adjust it over follow-up visits to find the most comfortable, effective position.
Follow-up testing: We confirm that your treatment is working and continue to monitor your progress over time.
PATIENTS WHO CAN’T TOLERATE CPAP
CPAP is an effective treatment, but many people find it hard to use night after night. If your CPAP is sitting in a closet, you’re not alone, and you still have options. Oral appliance therapy may be an alternative for you. For some patients, it can also be used alongside CPAP to make therapy more comfortable.
INSURANCE AND MEDICARE
Because sleep apnea is a medical condition, oral appliance therapy is often covered by medical insurance rather than dental insurance. Complete Health Sleep SoCal is a Medicare Part B and DME provider for dental sleep medicine. Our team can help you understand your coverage before you begin treatment.
WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR FIRST VISIT
Photo ID and insurance card(s), including Medicare if applicable
Any previous sleep study results
A list of current medications
Your CPAP information, if you have used one
If possible, input from a bed partner about your snoring or breathing at night
SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION
Whether you live in Poway, elsewhere in San Diego County, or anywhere in Southern California, we’re here to help. If you snore, wake up tired, or have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and want an alternative to CPAP, book a consultation with Dr. Rappaport to find out whether oral appliance therapy is right for you.
