At Downtown Women OB/GYN Associates, LLP, we are committed to providing individualized, expert and compassionate care to women in a warm and friendly environment. Dr. Shelley Kolton joined Dr. Marcia Storch, a pioneer in women’s health, in practice on lower Fifth Avenue in 1980. They were committed to providing healthcare for women, by women. They moved to larger quarters in Soho, at the time a relatively undeveloped neighborhood in 1987. In 1996, Drs. Kolton, Gruss, and Buxbaum formed Downtown Women OB/GYN Associates, LLP. While our practice has grown considerably since then, everyone at Downtown Women continues to share the founding philosophy.
Located in the heart of SoHo, Downtown Women OB/GYN provides a full spectrum of state- of-the-art healthcare in obstetrics and gynecology for women throughout their lifecycle. While we strive to offer our patients the most current and innovative options, we remain open to non-traditional alternatives as well. We feel this type of flexibility and openness best serves the unique needs of our diverse patient population.
Our dedicated medical staff includes doctors, nurse practitioners, midwives and physician assistants. Because we are a large and well-run office, we have time to spend with our patients and address their individual needs. Our patients have confidence that a provider is always available to treat them without the stress of long wait times. Our physicians are Board Certified or Board Eligible and are affiliated with New York University Langone Medical Center.

Had a great first experience at this office . I was taken quickly to the examination room. The doctor saw me not too soon afterwards. She had great bedside manner and was attentive to my concerns. Just had my pre-conception counseling and IUD removal with Dr. Whitehead. I cannot stress this enough - she is PHENOMENAL! Her bedside manner is wonderful, her patience, and willingness to listen are unmatched. I felt so seen and so safe with her. I wasn’t able to schedule the appointment for exactly what I wanted via ZocDoc, however, she saw me anyway and took her time talking to me and really getting to know me. She is so kind and reassuring. I’m excited to start this journey and I was afraid of delivering with a provider that would rush through appointments and not listen to me. This was absolutely NOT that. This is what shared decision-making with a provider should look and feel like!

Dr Whitehead is a truly wonderful practitioner. She has delivered my kids and now I see her for annual visits. She takes the time to talk with me and ensure I don’t have any questions. Dr. Whitehead, in my opinion, is one of the best OBGYNs in New York City. She’s compassionate and extremely understanding. Many people are already afraid to make visits to the doctors office, in fear of the results. Dr. Whitehead is easy to speak with and is very supportive. The practice had lost one of my specimens first suggesting I come back in to have samples retaken; after having done this, a week later after I hadn't heard anything, I had to call up myself and when I did was met with agitation by nurses who said they would have eventually gotten back to me.....'eventually'....when I have something pressing isn't professional. Very disappointed and probably will not return.
