Dr. Agha Spine Surgeon
Obiajulu 'AJ' Agha, MD is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon focused on providing comprehensive, patient-centered spine care to the Los Angeles community and beyond.
Clinical Expertise & Surgical Focus: Dr. Agha is dedicated to treating the whole patient, looking beyond imaging to understand how spinal conditions impact each individual's daily life, personal goals, and long-term well-being. Built on a foundation of shared decision-making, his philosophy emphasizes open communication to ensure patients feel fully informed and empowered in their care choices.
When intervention is needed, Dr. Agha strives to enact the least invasive strategy possible to safely achieve the surgical goal while minimizing recovery time and protecting surrounding healthy tissue. He maximizes patient function and mobility by leveraging advanced techniques across anterior, lateral, and posterior approaches and utilizing open, minimally invasive, and robotic strategies. Dr. Agha prioritizes motion preservation techniques whenever appropriate, including cervical and lumbar total disc replacement. His comprehensive expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of spinal health, ranging from degenerative conditions to complex spinal deformity correction and reconstruction.
Research Excellence & Academic Honors: An active researcher and presenter across major professional organizations, including the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) and AO Spine, Dr. Agha has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals like the Journal of Spine Surgery and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. His contributions to orthopedic research have earned recognition through accolades such as the Journal of Spine Surgery Outstanding Paper Award and the Charles S. Neer Award.
