Edith Jenkins, NP, became my mom’s provider during the pandemic and remained part of her care for almost six years as her health declined and she became bedridden. We affectionately called her “Dr. Edith,” and she became more than a healthcare provider to our family. Her bedside manner was compassionate and respectful. She listened, was always honest, never sugar-coated difficult conversations, and walked us through every stage of my mom’s journey. I will never forget her final visit. She knew my mom did not have much time left, and the compassion, tenderness, and comfort she showed my mom—and me—meant more than I can express. Her concern extended beyond her patient; she understood the weight I carried as my mom’s caregiver and cared about my well-being too. Edith helped my mom maintain her dignity and remain in her own home, just as she desired, until the very end. My family and I will forever be grateful.
