Emerald Green Therapy
Specialized Support for Dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Caregivers
At Emerald Green Therapy, I provide compassionate, specialized care for individuals and families impacted by dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. My practice is grounded in the belief that everyone touched by cognitive change, whether living with dementia, caring for someone who is or navigating the uncertainty of a possible diagnosis deserves understanding, education, and meaningful support.
About My Approach
I’m Katie Green, LCSW, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional based in the Chicago area. I specialize exclusively in working with individuals and families affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s. My focus is on creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can process emotions, learn more about the disease process, and develop strategies that bring a sense of steadiness and confidence to daily life.
My approach blends education, empathy, and practical guidance. I help clients and families understand what’s happening, validate the emotions that come with change, and offer tools for coping and connection. Sessions are tailored to each person’s needs and focus on helping you feel heard, understood, and supported—no matter where you are on the journey.
Who I Work With
Caregivers and Family Members: Caregivers often face exhaustion, guilt, or grief as they adjust to changing roles. Together, we create space to process emotions, explore boundaries, and find sustainable ways to care for both your loved one and yourself.
Individuals Living with Dementia: For those newly diagnosed or living with memory changes, therapy offers emotional support, reassurance, and tools to maintain autonomy and dignity.
Those in the Diagnostic Process: Uncertainty can be overwhelming when symptoms emerge or testing begins. I help clients navigate this waiting period with education, emotional grounding, and validation.
Couples and Families: Dementia changes relationships in profound ways. Therapy can help improve communication, strengthen understanding, and foster compassion within families.
My Philosophy
At the heart of Emerald Green Therapy is a commitment to person-centered and strength-based care. I believe in focusing on the whole person—not just the diagnosis—while honoring each individual’s history, preferences, and capacity for connection.
I integrate Montessori principles for dementia care, which emphasize respect, independence, and engagement in meaningful activity. I also incorporate disease education and validation as key components of therapy helping clients and families better understand cognitive changes while feeling seen and supported in their emotional experience.
What Makes Emerald Green Therapy Different
Specialized Expertise: My practice focuses exclusively on dementia and Alzheimer’s related concerns, ensuring highly specialized care.
Comprehensive Support: I work with both individuals and caregivers, recognizing that dementia affects everyone connected to it.
Emphasis on Education and Understanding: I help families and clients gain clarity about the disease process and the emotional impact it brings.
Collaborative and Compassionate: I work alongside medical professionals and care teams when appropriate to support whole-person well-being.
Accessible Virtual Therapy: I provide secure online sessions for clients in Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, and Florida, making specialized support more accessible.
