The Integrative counseling approach is preferred because it is inclusive to the practical needs of patients bringing together different elements of specific therapies according to the patient/client’s needs. I take the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all circumstances, experiences and situations. Specifically blending Cognitive, Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, EMDR, Trauma Informed Cared, Reality Based, coupled with Psyche/Pneuma/Soma education is proving advantageous for positive outcomes with patients ages thirteen and up. I credit holistic approaches that explore together with young patients their concerns while introducing them to recognizing and becoming familiar that their minds, spirits and bodies are interconnected and how this composition of themselves when balanced produces wellbeing. My theory is that people are free to experience change when there is an instillation of hope and that they can grow to learn to challenge and replace irrational thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes and replace them with healthier perspectives and informed understanding rather than accept negative or maladaptive thoughts and behaviors as their acceptable normal.
