I've visited Dr. Trisko twice so far. I went in for weight loss consultation after my annual physical - my A1c was in pre-diabetic range, which is my No. 1 health concern. Suddenly I felt NOTHING is safe to eat anymore. After half-starved (not healthy either) for a week, I finally made it my first consultation with Dr. Trisko.
Dr. Trisko is professional, warm, and extremely knowledgeable. I learnt a TON of new information: how to use every tool out there as a guideline, but not rely on the numbers (no matter how much grams of carbs, calories, GI - all gives you SOME information, but not everything). She makes me feel we are working this together, instead of being lectured or criticized for my poor health choices.
So I started learning about food from different angle. With proper knowledge, I found myself eating healthy (literally within ADA guidelines for Type II) without too much trouble! Let me put in this way: I have been struggling with weight problem since preteen, and for past 20+ years I have NEVER, EVER built a healthy relationship with food, until now. In past two months, I developed my own go-to meals with proper proportion for food groups, and the prep time and consuming time would suit in my crazy schedule (I work on B-way shows and TV, so…it’s so much worse than 9-5).
I haven’t had my follow up blood work yet (coming up), but within 7 weeks, I have lost 7% weight! Again, weight loss isn’t everything, but to me, it was very important. I put 7% instead xxx lbs since the number means different things to everyone of us, but percentage is universal. (Also, ADA does state that for overweight patients, such as me, losing even just 5%-7% weight could significantly lower risk for developing to Type II.) Going to gym 3 times a week helps some - at least I can maintain some of the muscle weight, and strengthen them to prevent injuries; but diet definitely plays a huge part in this.
Most importantly, I find this “healthy diet” thing quite easy - for the first time in my life I feel I can REALLY lose weight and KEEP it down, because i wasn’t even trying! The way I eat now is very sustainable to me - I honestly can eat like this for rest of my life.
My visit to Dr. Trisko is literally a turning point of my personal health. If you have any chronic problem that could be helped with diet, go see her. If you have any concerns about losing or gaining weight, go see her. If you want some good information about diet in general, go see her.
