GBA Counseling and Instructional Services
After 25 years of experience, the foundation of my work utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy principles to address social, emotional and existential struggles. Through integrating basic golf instruction and the many lessons of the game, I can offer a different approach to helping people.
What does the GBA stand for, one may ask?
Why is it called that? I enjoy hearing guesses. One good guess, which I count as somewhat of a right answer is “golf based approach”. But I see what I strive for at GBA as “a” GBA (golf based approach) to “THE” GBA. That more significant, bigger picture meaning for the name is something I draw from the simply great wisdom of Dr. Seuss - “THE” GBA I am referring to is the Great Balancing Act of life. As I have made efforts to make sense of things throughout life, the concept of balance seems ubiquitous. We are always challenged to balance out so many different factors in life, both within ourselves and in our relationship with the world around us. We have to figure out who we are and what is meaningful and worthwhile to do while we are pushed and pulled in so many different directions. And then we have to struggle to maintain and adjust and continue to navigate as life continues to roll on.
Balance is a constant effort. But, what is more worthwhile to have?
So, GBA represents a perspective on our challenge in life- our Great Balancing Act.
